Norman looked around, noticed a few new visitors and continued talking to Radclyffe. "Well, seems like that guy has done something wrong. I warned him not to cross the line, he was close to it sometimes. Now the DIA are requesting all data regarding Tharog" (he spoke that part more silently, since the DIA agents were actually in the bar) "Actually, I wasn't there when it all happened, I only got news that the "Frozen Star", LCBO's ship is now grounded and it must remain that way. You know how it works: you know less - you feel more secure". With these words he offered a glass of ale to the other Norman.
"You don't have to whisper about the DIA around me mate... Considering that's the department I'm in. And yeah, that's good intel you have. I'll take you up on that drink."
And with that Radclyffe took out a LPI Badge and put it on the table.
He sighs. "I didn't think you'd be transfered there so fast" - Norman takes a look at the badge - "Yeah, looks good. Quite convenient, I'd say. Especially if you're from DIA". He smiles, then drinks the remains of ale in his glass: "Actually, I think that I don't envy you, pal. See that load of files that Emily has? Dealing with such delicate cases can be pai... I mean, troublesome and annoying. Much more paperwork than usual."
Julia smiled at Emily, knowing she was nervous about entertaining a member of the Command Directorate. Its not often Julia socializes with her charges.
"Relax Emily... You remind me of me when I was just an agent. I rose through the ranks as fast as you have, maybe a bit quicker but that's just semantics."
Julia then took a data pad out of her jacket and put it on the table. Looking around to make sure nobody was eavesdropping.
"Now, before you read this data pad. I want you to realize this is unofficial and forget we had this chat. Also I want to know how you are getting on within the LSF, you have had a fair few brushes with death after all."
The data pad reads....
"I want you to be my eyes and ears within Liberty, I need to know the dealings of all members of the LSF and our allies. I would do this myself but, I am too visible. This assignment is not to be on record and you will not discuss this with anybody. If you get caught, I will have plausible deniablity. This is not an order but, an voluntary assignment."
"Finally, I want a full report on that LCBO Gunboat on my desk by morning"
* Emily didn't reply for a few seconds, she looked down at all the folders, more worried about the final report being handed in the morning, as fast as Emily wanted this investigation to end, there was no way if gods chance that it would be finished by the morning *
" Emily ?" Julia said, shaking Emily's arm a little bit, trying to get her attention.
" Uh.. Yeah sure, the report will be handed in for the morning"
Julia nodded, but kepT her hand on Emily's arm.. Emily looked down to Julia's hand, then looked at Julia.
" And for this offer ?" Julia said, her eyes widening slightly. Emily thought about it, knowing that this assignment could indeed ruin her personal life, She hated not being home in 5 days straight with this investigation, but she figured that this type of investigation won't happen again.
"Hm, OK, I'll do it" Emily forced a smiles and started to rub her bloodshot eyes which had bags under them.
Julia could see she was getting increasingly nervous. She signaled the bar keeper to bring over a bottle of wine.
"Here have a drink then get yourself some sleep. And don't worry about the new assignment, all it means is keeping your ear to the ground on whats going on"
Julia gulped her drink and sat back in her chair. It has been a long time since she had a social chat. Her best friend and former XO on her trade ship has since vanished and this was playing on her mind.
Emily pours the wine into a glass which previously had Liberty ale in, Emily took a sip and leaned back into her chair, closing her eyes for a while, allowing the bar gossip to fill her ears. Emily allowed the wine go down slowly, she opened her eyes and looked at Julia who was looking out of the bar window opposite her.
" So, ma'am, what part of Liberty do you come from ? Or.. "
Julia chuckled to herself, in anticipation of that question.
"Well Emily, I was born on Freeport 9 along with my sister Anna, but my parents are from Planet Los Angelas. My father was a transport captain and he took scientists all around Sirius. Before you ask, I used to be a bounty hunter, then I was nearly killed by a Corsair and took up freelance trading on a rusty old ship. Then by sheer chance I got accepted in to the LSF"
Looking out of the window at all the floating rocks, she was still worried about her old friend.
"So Emily, why did you want to become a spook?" She said without looking at her.
" Would you believe me if I said, I love paperwork" Emily said jokingly. Julia smiled a little, but kept focus on the floating rocks, making it impossible to get a great deal of information from Julia.
" But to be honest ? I wanted to help Liberty, with everything and anything"
