I understand your concerns Doc, but for the time being i do not want to cross paths with Balance team. They know their job. Although i must note here all the arguments. First our primary enemies Corsairs, Outcasts, RoS then rest of the Sirius have interesting stats for their ships and interesting guns pvp wise off course. Your concern is noted though lad.

Artistically, they are rather well-done, I find the texture job amazing, certainly better than the ones on the current shipline. The only change I would employ is a different paint job to that bee hive-like component on the wing of the Revolution and the Insurgent, it doesn't really match the general concept of the red-gray coloring. I'd also entirely remove it from the VHF.

Although, I will be honestly sad to see the current ones go. They were like the recreation of the Sol Coalition vessels (that we saw in the game's intro), I was hoping that the SCRA will carry on with making ships based on the same principle, enacting something similar to those capships, even. I understand -why- the replacements are needed though.

(Plus the fact that the new insignia looks rather similar to that of the Unioners, I don't understand what's wrong with keeping the red star. :/)

That doesn't mean they should nerf it or something... More like adjusting it according to its new flying capabilities. e.g. changing (in whichever direction) speed, energy hungriness etc.

The Corsairs have a fairly "stock" hullbuster which aren't that good. RoS has the Kraken, but how often do you see them anyway? And the Outcasts you hardly ever face since the trips to the Hispania are made when everyone's sleeping.

So... uh. Corsairs and random passers-by you meet while doing around Sirius?

Justifying good guns on the fact that you MIGHT come up against the "godlike" ( larf ) Kraken is a weak excuse.

We are all sad lad to see current ones to go but due to balance and their size and hitboxes we won't cry too much. Like Falconer said a lot of work has been put into this ones, and a lot of people worked on them for the first time making anything freelancer wise. We are thankful to those people as much to the old dogs like Yuri and Ashes. Also we didn't want to keep the red star because some players found it insulting so we decided to go with the alternative.

By 'Solid' I didn't mean the same color over the whole window. By 'Solid' I meant, The cockpit window being the 'Color' Type and not the 'Glass' type. Compare RT and Sekhmet, and you'll see what I mean.

The textures are not great, they could use a rework. I actually like the logos and colors. But the entire mapping of the model has some issues.

Also there is some Funny geometry on those models. It's easier to see in the renders, but you can look at the shading on the ingame screen shot. While I guess it works in game, it's not very professional.

I hate the cockpits honestly. I liked them before they got all the crisscrossing metal beams. In freelancer all ships have a transparent cockpits. I use to think the same way, why make it transparent? But, I learned, thanks to a beat down I got from ashes several months ago on one of my ship. It doesn't look freelancer with out it. If you can't do it yourself ask someone who can. It's really not hard.

The Bomber is one of the worst ones. It looks like someone took the Fighter covered it in glue and dropped it in a scrap heap. The extra parts just seem to be out of place, not part of the actual model.

Overall, stepping back the models are of decent quality. The textures are much better than the old ones. Whoever made them did a pretty solid job on them. So good job there, but it's not perfect. But no one makes perfect models, so take that for what you will.

Its not an excuse its only one of the arguments. Im sure everything will be sorted out.

Here is a summary of my opinion, I tried to include as much constructive critisism as I could. (Not trying to insult anybody).

Texturing:

Conclusion:

Messy models with partly unfitting texturing.
I would give these ships a score of 6 out of 10 points.

The texture elements (stripes, hammer&cog, etc) were discussed and wanted by the SCRA HC. It gives us a chance to make the ships visually appealing to us.

As for the models, well, they've passed muster w/ the rest of SCRA. Jinx's arguments pretty much sum up most of what we're talking about. The community can voice opinions, but in the end, they're our ships and we like them. We liked the look of Xing's ships too, then we found out they weren't practical (for many reasons, already addressed).

Not in consideration for this thread. That's a part that the Balance Team addresses. That's not part of ship submission, that's Balance. Go there.

With respect to Ashes, WRONG. There are several models in Disco (Discovery, not Freelancer, is what we play) that have an opaque cockpit. It makes very little difference whether the cockpit is opaque or clear. We are in space after all. When was the last time you saw an astronaut with a transparent, or even translucent, visor?

Modular construction means you take the base, and stick other parts onto it to create something different. The pod at the bottom is the "New" Coalition technology antimatter pod. Kind of part of the history of the models.

Balance here is NOT the purpose of this thread. It is a courtesy really to the community showing what is (hopefully) being included in the next iteration of the game we play. I'll apologize for the bad quality of the presentation pictures, but as Serpentis and Goran have shown, the ships look much better ingame than they do through HardCMP. Perhaps that's part of the problems people are having with the textures and such.

Pardon for being a tad rude, and I hope the ship does look as decent as you say it does ingame. (And hopefully even better as it explodes... /outcast )
