Well ya gotta look at the whole picture here.. The typical trader trades.. He runs around and circles making money. Ya sure he may be in a convoy, but, it's still not as exciting as fighting in a decent fight. And if you beg to differ, then why do people get off their traders to go and fight, instead of stopping in a middle of a fight to trade? There's just so much more out there than trading, and there's more than pirating and policing as well.. Meh. Plus what everyone else said. To me it's boring and i don't really need the money. But hey, seeing as you've got a nice trading faction going on, there are obviously those who love to trade as well.
:)

Become a dedicated and useful escort/scout pilot.
Sell codename guns.
Negotiate potential money making deals.
I think the majority of people would still say it's not as entertaining as such and such.
I'm one of those wierd people who actually enjoys trading. I initially started my trader purely to support my military character, but I've had a fair bit more fun roleplaying across Sirius as aforementioned trader.
Anyway, back on topic. Speaking for myself; I'd avoid trading factions for now because it's likely to place some limitation on range; and thus profit (and since the majority trade for money...).
Not to mention it would involve people looking into my character's background. And we can't have *that*.
Trading can either be about money or about RP imo.
Though most times you will need someone to RP with, in the second option.
It's great having to do some RP trading, like some factions transporting huge amounts of food or other stuff to Crete. But that rarely happens with other factions than the corsairs it seems.
And that's when trading factions become uninteresting imo. As a Miner I know what to do, I somehow like sitting around at one point with the constant threat of someone coming there to pirate me. When trading I don't like flying around so much - especially in house space with all those huge systems were you have to rely on trade lanes. I did some trading on my Zoner Guard in the Omegas, Omicrons and sometimes even Taus or Sigmas...but that's different than being in a house-trading-faction.
I can only speak for myself. I hate trading. After excessive playing of X3:Reunion and Terran Conflict
i don't like the long wait getting at last to my destination. I just don't like being a cargo jockey. Trading
is a good thing for financing future plans but for me it's a necessary evil. Maybe it's because i'm
really impatient after playing X3. "Once burnt, twice shy." is the term that fits here for me...
