Quote:5.4 Attacking characters of level 29 and below is prohibited. Characters under level 30 cannot be attacked by players of any level, except if they have non-Civilian ID onboard, and except cases of self-defense.

The rule about no PvP in NY will be removed from our official rules as soon as the 5.4 addition will be implemented.

I agree, thats straightforward, simple and protects under level 30 civillians from RP and PVP.

not searching for a loophole ( ! ) - but does that mean that a lvl 90 can attack a level 5 - if the level 5 has an ID other than civilian?

That is exactly what it means, and that is why I went to great lengths to persuade the adoption of the following:

1. Civilians IDs cannot be attacked except in self defense.

2. Under rank 30 characters with non-civilian IDs may only be attacked by other under-rank 30 characters, except in self-defense.

Number 2 is what we already had as a rule.

The added complication is in adding number 1, not in preserving number 2.

Has anyone else noticed that we now have a neutral ID again? We're just calling it the Civilian ID now, and it expires at rank 40. Guess what nearly every storage ship and armory will soon be ID'd as; and back in NY with impunity.

Roleplaying an authentically tagged and ID'd small fighter has just become the most hazardous ocupation in Sirius. On the bright side, I guess we will now have even more opportunities to find out who on this server is interested in good sportsmanship, and who is only interested in blowing up as many other players as possible.

Xoria, could you please stop changing post fonts?

So, we need to prohibit attacking players under 30 for players above 30 if lower-level players have an ID? I thought you meant that if they have an ID they should be eligible for any attacks.

That is what Spear originally suggested, and that is what I am arguing against.

I think it is a great idea to make the civilian ID immune from attack.

But allowing Battleships to attack Daggers, Bloodhounds, Dromedaries, and other small ships just because they have a faction ID decreases playability and encourages unsportsmanlike conduct.

This works for lawfuls too. If someone wants to fly Defenders, Patriots or other lawful fighters, they should be able to do so without Rogue Gunboats and Wolfhounds constantly harassing them.

My suggestion preserves the playability of the smaller ships while encouraging them to use the authentic Tag and ID for their roleplay. People don't use those small ships much because there aren't many people to play with in comparable ships. Making them subject to attack if authentically roleplayed makes them even less attractive than they already are.

Making faction ID's subject to attack by any player will discourage the roleplaying use of those ID's by small ships and encourage them to be hunted by uber ships. That doesn't make the game more fun for anyone, and it gives immature players a way of harassing others that doesn't violate the rules.

i think that prohibiting attacks on anyone lower than 30 is OK. - no exceptions. however it does mean that roleplayers wishing to interact will have to -add cash to their lowlevel chars- in order to raise their level to 30+; which as a matter of fact - makes them free for all again, no matter what ship / equipment they have.

this would still ensure though - that the rule can be easily followed ( easier to click on a target and look at a number than to scan maybe a group of 4 while 3 or them are 31 and one of them is 29 ... not too easy in a dogfight to keep the head straight then; and you won t know if you are acting in self defense - or if the lvl29 has actually attacked you - in case those 4 are hostile - but not grouped )

if a player wishes to be immune to pvp again ( provided he has a lowbie ship ( like LPI patriots ) ) he can just spend the "extra" cash and becomes low / immune again.

that way - those wishing to roleplay have some sort of on/off switch ( without changing their IDs ) - easier to change cash, than to fly around the places and change IDs.

players under level 30 should be eligible for attack only by players of simmilar level.
So, within 6 levels of each other....or something of that sort.

No! Under level 30 players who hold an ID have chosen to be part of RP and should not be immune to attack from over level 30 ID holders. What we have at the moment is a spate of under level Xenos etc flying around in full view of lawfuls shooting lawful NPC's and generally acting like complete muppets!

An under level 30 Xeno, Hacker or LPI who carries a faction ID should not be hiding behind the level 30 restriction, If you do not wish to be cannon fodder to a larger ship, dont fight them.

I have an LPI in a patriot and if I am killed by a level 50 Ravens Talon then it should be viewed as my own fault for standing and fighting a ship I cannot match.

What you proposed Igiss is perfect. Do not be swayed by people who want to fly around under level 30 using it as an invincibility sheild.

Cheers
