You never were in official faction leading position. And most likely you never had to deal with all crap all the time. Also to feel accountable for people's actions you can't control, becouse you represnt that entire faction.
You take care of all sorts of things you must to take care like a chour instead of just playing the game. Why? becouse some-one must do this if you want to have well running faction in which you can have fun playing. To organize events, life of sirius and so on. And also watch that everything would fit in the role.
You know, you should actually feel greatful to those people who sacrafice their time.
Oh or just some-one didn't let you have some toys cuz you have a tendency to skew things up for majority of people?
What touches "Invite only factions". There is no consipary. Those factions were made out of nothing. From zero. No vanila freelancer lore. People who created those factions actually OWN's them and decides what to do with them. I'ts their intelectual property.
If someone tries to order you around cause they're official, laugh and ignore them. But if they're acting in roleplay, and saying they're gonna shoot you if you don't listen to them, then you better well be expecting roleplaying concequences if you take a step out of line.
Don't come in here crying to mommy because someone roleplayed their character in-game. That's even more lame than Faction Rights, imo.
It's a roleplaying server, every action has a consequence. Stop always thinking rules rules rules and think about something logically for once.
The Molly's made a peace treaty with the BMM. Now, granted that only applies to the Molly Republic and not Molly's as a whole, in order to keep on peaceful terms with the BMM, the Molly's are going to do everything to protect that agreement.
You know what that means? When another Molly goes and attacks a BMM, they're going to distance themselves from that Molly, and even try to kill him to protect their agreement.
Don't like it? Kill BMM where the Molly Republic can't see you. If they try to FR5 you for that, then call BS.
Official faction = group of indies that <strike>like to order each other around</strike> follow faction RP
Later.. of course members become friends and rank structure is there only for the sake of RP, they decided to build up on that RP too, made some agreements/alliances, broke some, exchanged technology and took their future in their own hands and now don't like anyone to brake what they did or what others before them did (now they have rights to keep it that way). (They can change things as long rest of the community agrees of course)
Indy = One person, can't do much to change future of his faction, or make big impact on community. Unless they are willing to spend much time on their RP that makes some sense and turn it to something wonderful (It has been done before - there are few unique ships, chars)
Some spend some time as indie and join faction, no matter how good or bad they are if they have willingness to join they will.
Some are just there for fun on their own and they don't make trouble, they follow faction RP and generally have fun.
There are those that like to form their own groups.. well you aren't really indie more, they are making their own rank structure etc.. they become unofficial faction (sub-faction or what ever) some even turn to official factions if they last long but usually these groups don't live long and brake up soon.
I am not sure, but I don't know why so many guys decide to made their groups that are basically same as official faction and do same things.. they could simply join it and form their own wing in it, recon, defensive, scientific, etc. It's much better option if you ask me, this is just my opinion. It would last longer and with official faction you could build up factions RP and contribute to something. If you are already making group why not bring it to next level.
And there are indies that are generally new, have little knowledge about factions lore and want to have fun, and they usually mess things up, it's on them if they want to straighten up or get sanctioned. You can't really blame them, we were all newbies once. Even the newbies newbie will get straighten up after talking with them, teaching and if that fails sanctions will do the trick to lead them to correct path. Usually talking is enough.
Some newbies form groups that still have little knowledge about faction and get FR5'd for doing stuff wrong.
Finally Some of those won't even admit they were wrong, they don't want to follow rules and they turn into trolls
Oshi.. wall of text. So, my general view of faction-indie stuff 30 mins after I wake up.

omg how can they even play under such pressure?

Actually i would feel grateful, if they would stop or giving it to people who can handle this huuuge task.
Or maybe just give more factions the official status in order to split the burden?
Or best...just remove official factions?:nyam:

Ya they tried but failed miserable. I have all the toys i want ;):yahoo:
' Wrote:Actually removing FRs would do good - because once they went poof, only RP and ingame actions would remain.
Meaning I could finally have justification for naming the factionettes in my way rebels and blasting them. All in RP, nice and dandy.
And that would mean giving away everything.. totaly everything for devs to decide about the progress of factions. Or it might lead into total stagnation and simple sanctionlancer after that.

Ask D.Jameson for example. He's alone handeling all oc stuff. And he barely has time to play for his own good. Now corsairs are controlled by the council of 9~10 people. Few indies, leaders of official factions. It works a bit better than alone person, but then you have disagreements between people of the same faction you need to get trough. I left that place. As well as sails HC.. got tired of it. It's alright if you are 14 years old boy who has only school to deal with and has a lot of freetime, and it's not if you have 1 or 2 free hours per day to spent on videogaming.
The ones who should take care of such work, must prove themselves worthy. That ussaly takes time and to have understanding about how things are done here.
Factions, factionettes, indies... That's a flawed concept altogether. There should be just factions, but not in today's sense - you set them up and can never be sure whether your official status and rights is worth the trouble you're having with those nominally under your authority.
Instead Factions shouldn't be set up, they should just exist as a game element and for the sake of governing every aspect of the faction as if it was the mystical NPC guildmaster, queen, president and whatnot. Except instead of this mystical line of text pretending to be the leader - it should be people. Chosen by the people, for the people and er... Against the people! (Or something like that)

No, you could not bear the sight of this misery.
Just let them have their rights and the illusion of power over other players.
Play your RP the way you have fun with it and just let the official players talk, its probably his/her moment of the day, so dun take it from them.
Sarcasm aside. Hypothetical: I now band up with say, 5 friends. We check out the ships that are available, and find out the Kusari gunboat is a nice one for allround mayhem. So we all get KNF ID's and get ourselves into these little funboats. Now we want to majorly "pwn" (I believe that's the term this type of player uses?) anyone, so we set up shop somewhere in the Taus, and "roleplay" a blockade. Anyone not complying gets vaporised by chain fire from five gunboats, all armed with a forward cannon for ranged duty. We can dock at the Freeport or any Samura base if we need regens after a battle, after all.
Soon enough our list of targets runs out. Word gets around and people stop coming there. So, let's move! But where to? Well, the Sigmas make for a nice location. We drop a lane and again RP a "blockade". Heck, this time we simply RP being Wilde - since other guys do it, why can't we? So we RP a bit and end up vaporising anyone not Samura or Kishiro, since that's against our ID. Gas Miner Naha is always kind enough to resupply us with bots and bats.
Again, the targets run dry, and there's already quite some "Q_Qing" about us on the forum. But we don't mind, we have a dozen people who cussed us out in space, and we'll file them all as 3.1 rule violations. That'll mean a few bans for sure. Fun, no? But we aren't done yet, so we move again. Where to now? Oh, why not, Dublin! We're at war with the Bretonians anyway, so it's not against the rules. Just have to remember to withdraw to the nearest Gaian base when we need to load up bots and bats. We're all green to Gaians so there's not much they can do about it - no more FR5s. And on that note, since we're in hostile territory we can shoot anything and anyone there! End tally, 5 miners, a dozen fighters, and a battleship (kiting with the forward cannons really worked well!).
I hope this illustrates why it's a good idea to keep official factions around - so that a few players with a mind to spoil everyone else's fun, do not get a chance to do so, at least not unchecked.

without the red part, that really sounds like fun ;)
But i guess that was not your point, right? It was more like that only Wild, Phantoms, Nomads and dunno what else special factions are allowed to do something like that and not just any independent player who wants to have fun? :nono:
The main problem i see with the official factions is that most (all i met so far) of them are not doing what they are supposed to do (according to some of the answers here).
It feels more like they are not trying to help any indies to follow the ID-specific roleplay, but once they see someone doing something wrong spam their FRs and want to get rid of him/her.
Guess an of.fac's "perfect world" would be without indies and all IDed players in their own faction.:shok:
