Ironically, Marijuana isn't as harmful as most of the legal drugs on the market (tobacco and alcohol). The main reasons governments have for making it illegal is that they can't regulate its sales easily and turn a copious amount of profits like they do with tobacco and alcohol.
But still, just because it isn't as bad when compared to other drugs, it's still bad for you and you shouldn't use it.

That, however, is also why California is considered the granola state - full of fruits, nuts, and flakes.
From the perspective of the rest of the country - if we consider something to be part of core American values, and/or common sense, then we can pretty much count on California to do exactly the opposite.
As far as the OP is concerned - presuming you actually are about 15 years old, you have a LONG time ahead of you to make your own decisions about things. One of the reasons that your parents are saying what they do is that they are doing their job as your parents, in giving you basically the advice and direction that they think will help you in growing up and becoming the best person that you can be.
A real good example of that kind of advice is - don't get big and bold tatoos that are in obvious places, like on your face or the back of your hands. They may look cool to you when you're young - but if you ever aspire to actually get into the business world or being professional... well, think of it this way. Would you really take your doctor seriously if he had a big tattoo on his neck?

Well, I'm a long term marijuana smoker myself, and I haven't noticed being any stupider than I usually am, and that's a fair margin. You should not drink or use any sort of drug, and you MAY not, at least until you turn 18 concerning alcohol, but the drug usage ban is still there. If you get caught by cops while high, you'll spend a night in a cold damp holding cell with some dude laughing at you or beating the living bejesus out of you (speaking from own experience). If you get caught by cops drunk, they'll likely let you go because of sheer "fear-of-puke-on-new-shoes" factor or cause they find you amusing.
Bottom line, booze and drugs are bad for you. No matter how you look, they ARE bad.
Marijuana has positive effects, yes. But the negative ones are still stronger, especially the smack you get on your pockets.
P.S. Marijuana is a PLANT, not a drug. It grows on its own, humans didn't magically just invent it. I'm betting the dinosaurs were very familiar with the dry mouth and "I could eat my brother right now" syndrome. So it's a plant, kay? If you just so happen to set it on fire or eat it, there are effects. Same thing as mushrooms. They are ALL edible, but some only once, and some you don't want to eat before tying your legs to a very large tree using a tow line and steel clamps.
Sucks to be a weight on the wrong side of the brilliance-insanity scale.
Seeking advice at 14 shows humility, which is trait I lacked at your age.
Your parents are seeking to protect you & you should respect this.
The purpose of the video is to ridicule the effectiveness of prohibition, which has the following detremental consequences...
Empowers organized crime
Taxes are spent policing drugs, rather than taxes being collected regulating drugs
Virtually impossible to measure the drugs market
Quality of drugs cannot be monitored & standardised (as with booze)
The flip side is that Governmental Policy is born from a goal of protecting the public from potentially harmful substances, but I fear it is now maintained out of counter productive pride.
So are drugs, fags & booze bad for you?
The simple answer is yes, but so is fast food or having a tattoo on your face.
If you smoke weed every day, rather than escaping reality it will become your reality.
& getting stoned every day will not enrich your life
