Thanks for the perk! As a player with a new pilot on the server and trying to find a direction for him, I think I'll have him go as a miner now.

Thanks a bunch!!

Why not giving this unused Researcher ID (http://discoverygc.com/wiki/index.php/Researcher_ID)
the possibility to scan systems/fields for the current droprate?

That would increase the usage of this ID and it would improve teamplay (eg: Researcher can sell his knowlegde or be part of a mining team..)

Quote:For me to successfully contact level3 is similar to trying to get a SRP approved. Meh.
Feel free to ask questions about this post or other server related things. Thanks all. Have fun.

<---Doesn't know what an SRP is, and google thinks it's a salt river project..

So does this mean that this issue can't be fixed? This has been (quite literally in-game) killing me, as sometimes the packet loss is so bad that it's like I'm playing in an alternate universe. I've been playing with my friends, and I've always been the one who gets this issue, rendering it impossible for me to play with them :(

I read the mining guide in the wiki, and since the miner character is new, decided to obtain the DSE ID and IFF. After some successful mining of the helium, I tried the Tremont field and can validate that it is dropping platinum. The short haul to Philly though, still makes the helium more profitable as I can make multiple trips, but hey, glad to see it turned on.

Yesterday, I ventured into Colorado to check out the Silverton and Copperton fields. After approximately four hours combined through both fields, I had not a single nugget. :( That's using a DSE ID, DSE IFF, Mining turret, and a Basalt mining craft. The character can't afford a Hegemon, so it seems their best bet is to go back to the helium cloud with a Dromedary to earn enough funds to get a Hegemon.

Since leaving KU for summer break, I've had connection problems which make PvP a death trap and trading a pain with stuck gates and such. Mining, however, works and I'm finding it a great opportunity to RP the character.

I'm going to stick with it, but I guess I'm going to have to join the BMM or IMG after getting the Hegemon since I can't seem to find ore in Liberty.

Most mining nodes are turned off in Liberty, because there was too much lolwuttery when they were active.

If there's 0 drops within 1 minute, then the field is turned off. No need to spend 4 hours on such a fruitless venture.

Mining of Platinum Ore is indeed turned on in the Tremont rings, but the sale prices at every station in Sirius are equal to that of normal Platinum (that you can buy at Toronto Station, Ontario), so it's worthless to mine there at the moment.

Let's all just be friends and have a good time.

Ahhhhh...Thanks for the info. I get a lousy ping on this server, but I *love* the numbers of people and the interaction. That's worth more than a 12 ping to me any day. Glad to be a part of this group.

Once I get my miner to earn enough cash, I'll get the hegemon and join the IMG or BMM.

Yeah, what can I say, I wa bored. :) Some servers have it so it's a specific spot in the field, so I did a check by grid search in both Copperton and Silverton. Kinda figured it was dead from the start, but curiosity and nothing better to do, well, it occupied my time.

:)

Thanks for the info. Different servers have different setups, so what I'm used to finding X and selling it at Y for Z price, it's all new here.

If you're going solo, I'd recommend moving to trading as soon as you have enough to buy a 600+ freighter until you have enough to get the Hegemon. I don't think Helium mining works as well with a non-mining ship, and trading quickly outpaces Helium. Once you have enough for the Hege, trade in for it and go mine your heart out.
