I'll quote a bit of Q&A from the Lore:

Q: Isn't cardamine taken through one of those breather devices? IIRC, it is usually taken in gaseous form, but stored in
solid powderlike form. Anyone with more OC experience want to clarify?

A: That's right, it's inhaled. Liquid cardamine is a variation, a highly concentrated dose. Normally it would kill a human.
But some may practice it, falling into comatose state only to be awaken (or not, taking something like that would
require years of work) very different, barely human at all. Cardamine alters DNA, now think who's native DNA it's
adjusted to, since cardamine was artificially created, and you get the answer whom Outcasts practicing it would
essentially become.

Q: So basically Outcasts taking Cardamine are becoming more like the Nomads?

A: No, Cardamine does not hold Nomads' DNA, it's a "modifier" instead, altering code at various parts. DA's Nomad
backstory has mentioned that Cardamine was initially created by DK to prolong life, which it does indeed, but for
humans it unfortunately also alters other segments of their DNA since it was never really intended for their use,
hence the drawbacks.

From http://www.7crows.com/files/Freelancer%2...action.pdf

The Sirius Sector was intended as an elaborate school for the
Nomads, and the Daam-K'Vosh had left gifts scattered around it like toys -- the
cardamine grass on Ishmael with its life-prolonging genetic code (and unexpected
narcotic dependence when absorbed by human beings), the terraforming bacteria
intended to open vast numbers of worlds to the Nomads, and at the center of the
sector, Valhalla 1, a library from which the Nomads could receive the wisdom of their
creators when they had grown advanced enough to unseal it.

"Ishmael" was later renamed "Malta". But cardamine was, in fact, left for the Nomads by the Daam K'Vosh... that it does anything for humans in most likely mere coincidence. It doesn't so much "nourish" as it does "improve".

Followed by that logic, Nomads left 'normal' cardimine on purpose. Wouldn't it be logical for them to keep certain knowledge and things to themselfs?

Outcasts have spent years studying, researching and finally
they came up with some processes that turn the inedible grass into an orange inhaleable gas or
ingestible liquid. The effects of this processed Cardamine are increased lifespan, greater
strength and additional sensory enhancements than normal humans, at the cost of permanent
DNA changes that result in lifelong addiction to Cardamine and significantly reduced
reproduction. Whether Outcasts can produce offspring at all remains to be seen. It has been
suggested that the Cardamine helps the nomads to sense the Outcasts as different to other
humans. There seems to be a curiosity on the nomads part about these "human-like creatures"
that 'smell' like the grass the nomads ingest.
The effects of Cardamine on Nomads are similar to Humans with one difference; Cardamine
is not addictive and purely beneficial to nomads. The grass form increases the energy storage,
flow capacity, photosynthetic processes and functions of the Nomads body systems, while the
processed form does the same only slightly less effectively on Nomads.
It has been suggested by some of our scientists/theorists that the Nomads once grazed the
fields of Malta.

It doesn't says here, but yeah, liquid cardi would kill human, inRP. Therefore, there is normal cardimine, that humans are using, plus it makes them 'interesting things' for nommies, and there we go, neutrality between outcasts and nommies.

Pingu?! - thank You, for little clarification.

however, more mutated humans could use liquid Cardi in small amounts when normal Cardamine is not enought.

this is my inRP explanation on need of Liquid Cardi for humans,
maybe add some OC guard reserch station where people could get this.

[color=#FFFFFF]Dude, everyone is entitled to their own understanding of the universe, as shown by this thread most of the players/members of official factions involved/bystanders have a different view. You can say whatever in your RP just don't expect others to do so as well. You can still RP something with liquid cardie, is it really that important to have it "physically" in your hold?

my iRP explanation for its developement would be that instead of 4 huge aerosol tanks, you take one vial of the liquid when you plan to be in space for a few weeks.

I assume Anomander's talking about the Shrine up there, which was briefly selling Liquid Cardamine in the early betas of .85. However, not a single one human station had it for sale.

C - Cardamine cannot grow anywhere but Malta (and that pathetic ninja edited infocard saying that it can grow on one more Outcast owned planet)
D - This is not vanilla
E - Liquid Cardamine as far as I am concerned is taking the piss
F - All of the above.

Most Outcasts are NOT narcotically addicted a common misconception. The fact that they need it to survive away from Malta has got nothing to do with sniffing it to get the hit. You as a healthy homo sapiens sapiens need Oxygen to survive (well duuh!) Now I want you to get an oxygen mask with pure oxygen and hyperventilate. You get high. Do you need oxygen to survive - yes. Do you hyperventilate on regular basis - I doubt it.

Most of everything you said is wrong, and I'll tell you why:

A. That's kinda' true. The Outcasts aren't hostile, but they are nervous. There are limits on what the Outcasts allow them to do in their space.
B. No. They don't. As being superior to the human race, and the factor of cardamine, the Nomads and the Outcasts respect one another. Only the few ignorant Outcasts turn to them as gods. Small 2% of the OC population, if that.
C. Yes. That's true.
D. Two for two.
E. Elaborate on that.
F. What?

All Outcasts are addicted. It's what makes them Outcasts. You either need the stuff to be superior to humanity or you are a disgusting slave. Also, the Outcasts do not breathe pure cardamine. It is a small mixture in the atmosphere. So what an Outcast is breathing through their mask is a reconditioned atmosphere that has either been manufactured or taken directly from Malta. Like the tanks you use when you go deep sea diving.

Cardamine was originally created by the Da'am K'vosh to improve the health of the nomads. The outcasts became used to it, and couldn't live without it, and my assumption is that they produced liquid cardamine because it was concentrated enough to give them the effect a full dose of cardamine would have on a normal human. If I am correct, the euphoria from any significant quantities of liquid cardamine would probably send a normal human into a seizure or outright kill them.

Yay, unsupported-guessing!
