Specific cargos can have good RP reasons.
Synth Food is a supplier of special food stuff which the LWB and the Farmer's Alliance are fighting. Synth paste "farms" destroyed planet Stuttgart. No normal grown food could've done that according to the infocards.

Alcoholic bevvies are brewed from foodstuffs (or near enough like), so unless they're brewing plonk out of synth paste or the goop they dredge up from planet Junyo, then there would be a shortage of the real stuff. Like Gallic hermitage. And a huge market to go with it. Sidewinder Fang and Liberty Ale could be made from surgical swabs and oven cleaner, for all we know.

Eh, Freelancer is very inconsistent in many aspects when people start thinking too much of it. If tractor beams exist, which are basically molecular reconstructors, how come they don't use it as replicators? That would pretty much solve any commodity shortage problems. You could turn turd into gold.

Yes but there's one more vital ingredient none of you have considered... it's brewer's yeast. Without it, no fermentation and no (natural) alcohol production. So perhaps that species of yeast (or something similar) only occurs in Gallia, or not at all anywhere in Sirius, with the Frogs bringing their own supply on the sleeper ship in its own special cryo-chamber.

I think traveling into areas such as cocaine, PCP, and meth won't help. By having characters who use these drugs, it has an effect on the player base. Mid-teen to young adults who maybe want to portray coke-users and meth addicts, but I don't think it's something we really want to portray. Server is PG13 and shouldn't be moved up to certain areas. It's okay to be a bit drunk or absolutely high and calm on weed, but I think tweaking out on meth or having a freak-out on ecstasy is something this server could do without.
