=> no need for a Magical Crystal Ball of Fortune Telling +4 to see what the player had in his sights there.

In addition, there was no reply to my green message afterwards, in which I was asking the K'Hara to let the newbie return and set up his ship.

A simple "Ehm, sorry. Was not paying attention. Sure, he can come back.", would have done it. Better even to the new player than to the faction leader.

Sometimes things go wrong. Just happens.

I am not involved in this "incident", but.. Can we all just agree that shooting down a "repping" player (accidentally?) isn't a mortal sin?

Here's the thing. Your own tone is one that kind of triggers "defensive" or "hostile" responses in situations like these. Yes, perhaps shooting them down shouldn't have happened. Then again, maybe it should have, because it's no more than logical roleplay.

The player could have been told they could consider the death as "not having occured", sure. Maybe whoever killed them missed the green message. Maybe the green message was very accusing and the player instead thought: "I'm here to have fun, and I'm not going to let drama stop me from having it."?

We're all human beings. We all make mistakes. But treating the tiniest mistake / oversight / difference of opinions as a mortal sin and raising all the alarms you can for them is not the best way to get a good response.

Your own words sum things up quite well:

Edit: Something to note.
I've seen fully armored and ready-to-rock escort and transport ships with the [R] tag, so frankly, that can't be an indicator for us not to shoot them. The Recruit ID is there for a reason. Use it if you really want to avoid situations like these.

Definitely not a "mortal sin". Still, bad attitude in my personal opinion and against something I would say is an unwritten code of behaviour. Shooting unarmored CSVs is something I expect in Liberty from lolwuts, not from experienced players in a major invite only faction. Can't say it in a more candid way.

And, as you hint that the green message might have been accusing and that this could have been a reason to not answer it, I'll paste the only thing I wrote in green:

Quote:[15.05.2013 20:48:16] IMG|Falling.Teardrop: Let the new guy pls set up his ship

So, no. Nothing accusing. No drama.

About the [R] tag, just to clarify things: New members have it for a few weeks. But the combination of observations pretty much said "setting up player". So, yes, there can be fully equipped ships.

Anyway. Done from my point of view.

Good.

I simply spoke based on previous.. Encounters, were the very first remarks made (by either side, probably) weren't the friendliest, and that tends to lead to "escalations".

Just one thing.

One thing I expect from lolwuts is silence in response to roleplay. That's what the recruit here did: if he'd simply said *anything* at all in response to that K'Hara, or did anything that.. Makes sense in roleplay (such as docking / running away when a hostile alien is within shooting range and you are not equipped to fight back), this likely would not have happened at all.

And with that, I am done as well.

I've ran twice on same day into K'Hara player flying Adad. I was flying my FL Mammoth from Kusari back to Liberty. First time was in New Tokyo and second one in New York. Both times my ship was attacked and damaged but I've tried to RP about situation I've found myself in and both times I was spared. Smile

I dunno if thats standard or other player was simply being nice to me, but I cant complain. It added some trill to otherwise boring activity so kudos Smile

Many of us do so, yes. I definitely do it myself. Most of my recent "Transport stopping" activities as a K'Hara were somewhat like riddles or tests. Make the right choices, you survive.

The main thing I look for myself is that the "K'Hara collective" gets something out of it. So if you provide information I consider valuable enough as a Nomad, you survive. That might also mean I test your character's psychological reaction to a certain action (which might involve shooting you) yet still end up sparing you.

Good to see people enjoy that kind of thing though. Kudos back in case it was me, and otherwise - still kudos. You probably made that K'Hara player you roleplayed with have a bit more fun too. It's definitely more fun to roleplay than to just pop a silent transport.

If you don't piss the aliens off (running, attacking, being a dick) it is very likely that you can get away. Just try to (talk-)roleplay with K'Hara, don't give the aliens a reason to dislike your existence, and you will be completely fine.
Players that run / remain silent are very likely to get shot at.

So far, that kind of behaviour managed to save the lifes of those individuals that encountered K'Hara. However, if you character does things the aliens dislike, you might end up dead aswell. But that rarely happens.

Kudos to you if you make the days of nomads more fun by not running like 95% of the transports (which end up dead because they ran without a word after you tell them multiple times to stop in many different ways.)

/edit - Yes, basically what hasteric said.

Saying "Hello Nomad" or some other seemingly completely fearless response to a potentially hostile alien appearing in front of you is one way to trigger me personally shooting you down Wink
