- testing stability is important to a Server so i can feel with mod devs it must be a pure Horror for them looking to 48 pages of bugs but i must say time has come to say - thats it - its stable now - who cares if there has to be an other update in 3 or 4 weeks
- do the rollback asap RP is running on a very low Level at the Moment
- the missing presence of admins / angels online
- the online community has changed and needs help by official factions - means there must be made something easier to join. For a new (and often an older Player, too) there are Problems with factions like ALG|, [ALG], ALG- etc ... makes no sense to hear - ehh you can read at Forum about
- since PoB's there are many suppliers - now in beta - awaiting rollback - theres no sense for them beeing on
- PoB owners - well many bases were build directly to mining fields - i dislike - but changing materials, routes and Systems doesnt make them happy - they had an Intention to place the base where it is - now many things are "far away"
- rules seem to be "offline" at the moment - you pew someone to a base he docks reloads and restarts - telling him the rule to leave System or make a 2 hrs break - you only get the answer NO - beta bug - even if you sanction him this makes no sense.
- Reengagers - nothing else to say about - but masses of them
- add a new rule "Begging is strictly forbidden" i stopped playing several times to get these "plzplzplz gimme 300 millions i want to buy a BS" from me
- official factions do often give a negative example: like
a) Situation in Magellan: a fleet of 10 / 15 ships are standing by to raid (to liberate) leeds just helping the BAF - then the who is allowed to / no do not enter / whos on the lead ...etc. starts via grp-chat - people (fleet) waiting 30 mins -45 mins 1 hour - nothing happens gets annoyed.
b) Situation Rheinland raiding liberty - it started perfect - a large fleet mb 15 ships moved to Texas - then california - then the Group leaders said oh sorry weve to leave here - were preparing a nomad raid - and went off ... 10 ppl pi**ed in california
c) a [LN]- asked for help in california to handle an enemy cruiser - i gave my ok to come - so i moved my carrier from Alaska to california 10 other [LN], LNS were on too - nearby - but noone else came - the one asking for help - was pi**ed about and left.
d) dieing factions - like Kruger - i recognized 2 attemps to bring them back to game 2 years ago and this year. showing up as Kruger or KMS was pretty awful - 2 years ago when there was the miners conflict in O7 (IMG-Kruger) Kruger was slaugthered like flees by hesians, wilde, sairs, pirates and even junkers - the "community" gave them no chance to come back
e) vioces here at Forum:
"restrict caps to official factions and remove them from unaffiliated or non official members" - funny - teach these non officials how to play - invite them - give them help, discuss weapon setups etc.... you will see they are not that bad you make them
i am one of these free - capship captains - i really enjoy these fat beasts - with RMS- or LNS or HMS or OC .... i can join in many groups, took part in many raids and other events AND i can go alone eg hunting npc caps off the main areas - so why removing them ?
f) activity of official factions - yes you can see nearly any time a LN or OC or .:j:. but wheres the rest - if someone else shows up - asking him about activity - joining the group you most get the answer - ehhh ... make a post at Forum - gimme your Skype etc ...
finally - i will stay here at Disco - no matter what else will happen
Nobody said restrict them to officials only, just put some requirements on them.; about the helping the newer guy i did that a couple of times and after a month the guy was shooting my guardian from a dunkirk without warning no nothing; when i logged here first and and tryed to avoid or to fight back the ganks or some pew freak, all i received from [LN] back then was lol, reason for which right now i ignore them completely even if we are ,,friendly,,) i guess everyone cares about his own fun and doesnt give a nut about the other one...and i dont think that a newbie has set this kind of rules.. a couple of dudes who show eachother funny pics on the forum and others who like to write....preety much this, my impression about comunity; i guess that some fair pew is the most one can hope to have...so i take as it is and then simply log off and that's it.
actually, now that I re-think about it, I agree with Spazzy's points. I did notice several people voicing out they came here because EVE didn't satisfy them as they thought. I also agree that this game is getting old, and hardware/software capabilities march on.
I think most are leaving as a select few get what they want changed/modified/buffed/nerfed and so on. While the majority get trolled for idea's presented. The mods and admins are elected due to popularity, and not what they know, are willing to do. Many new items are busted big time, and easily abused. I can go on here, but i won't as i have not even bothered to download the new update, as i really do not think it worth it anymore.
This used to be the best Freelancer mod out there by far. But now every other forum trolls it for being to.....whats the word......1 sided?
Well duh, Disco has it problems, but as for me six month was enough to erase bad memories and be ready to have some fun. New ship lines are full of attitude and pizzazz; I’m looking forward to steal a Hessian funship. I’m pretty sure that lolcaps and stuff will ruin an immersion for me and one day I’ll drop this game again, but, never should deprive oneself of pleasure right now.
I keep hearing this argument that rp is on an all time low though.
I don't see how much you're losing.
A lot of the proper roleplaying I have encouuntered each time I pop up here is the stuff that goes on in already planned group plots or the forums.
Pirates are liable to shoot you the second you type up a proper response because they are scared you'll call in help.
Same with lawfuls vs pirates.
You're welcome to start building up something on your own and attract interest for "what happens when we leave beta?"
I'm working on something that's going to be a bit forum heavy, sure. but it's definately going to open up for people to jump in and do stuff related to it in-game and create small events together as a result of that when beta ends.
Heck, it can be done during beta.
I just find that there's also an overwhelming amount of people who're afraid of character development. So my stuff usually don't garner near as much attention as it could.
Doesn't stop me from trying.
Beta neither, I just seclude myself to the forums while I wait for an opportunity to start grinding up my credits to fuel fun-times ingame.
I feel all this negativity is doing hell of a lot more in that respect.
One of these days, there will be a clever, stylish and/or funny signature here.
This is still not that day, however.
First of all I love freelancer I was one of those few people who actually went out and bought the game when it came out. After a year or so of playing I set the CD aside and didn't play for a long time. Then one day I was on Moddb scrolling down the list I saw there was mods for freelancer so I looked through the different mods and ended up downloaded disco. I was blown away by all the new ships, the expansion of Sirius, the new equipment and weapons, and the new lore. It was everything I had always wanted in vanilla FL.
However,
Disco presents a major learning curve for a new player. Some people on this server (yea all you trolls) make it pretty hard on the new guys. The amount of elitism here can be a turn off. But I stuck through it learned from those that offered advice and ended up enjoying the game play and the disco community. The RP took a little getting used to even after playing many RP games in the past. I also found it necessary to learn the rules by heart after seeing the amount of players sanctioned and banned on this server. Now for me it was worth it because this mod breathed fresh life into a game i loved but that's not the case for many people.
Now for the main reasons why I think there is low server activity these days:
1- The Rollback- We all know its gonna happen and we all know that everything we do now is totally futile. Why would someone waste time trading to save up for something when all their progress will be erased. When there's no traders there's no pirates. When there's no pirates its pretty boring for lawfuls. There also needs to be some kind of warning in game about the rollback otherwise we will have some angry newbies when all their stuff disappears.
2- Betatestcash- I understand why the devs did it but I personally think it was a less then stellar idea. I know this is only for Beta but it still is a problem. Give people a billion credits and what are they gonna do? There gonna go buy cap ships. Log on and fly around liberty you will see LABC's, dreadnoughts, and assault carriers everywhere you turn. And when I try to play one of my official faction characters I have to contend with caps everywhere. Case in point the other day I was patrolling Leeds in my GRN cougar and three LNS caps- 2 assault carriers and a LABC come rolling into Leeds. How is a lone bomber supposed to contend with that. Even after getting another GRN bomber to come to my aid it still was a one sided battle.
3-The tons of 'unofficial' factions- With so many official factions I don't understand the need for everyone and their brother to start their own "unofficial" faction. If you really want to create a faction petition the admins to create an official one. It just gets a little ridiculous because it seems every time I log on there is some player with a tag i have never seen before. All you have to do is fill out an application to join an official faction its not that hard it would take you 20 minutes top. It makes the game much more fun when you have a group of people to play with and joining an official faction is how you do it then you get access to the Skype channels and other faction resources.
4- Help the newbies don't insult and harass them.- I make it a point to help out any new player on the server whenever possible. Ive helped people when there just starting out, helped them learn to trade, taught them how to mine, given advice about good routes, and ill even anonymously donate money to some of the people i see just starting out. That is how you grow a community by supporting new players. When a person plays disco and just gets insulted and harassed because they don't know every in and out like we do that person will leave and never come back. Then that person will tell their friends about all the jerks on disco and those people will never try it out.

having some unofficials is good, but yes... the amount of unofficials is, at times, mind boggling.
Concerning unofficial factions, it's often a case of
"My idea is totally unique and better."
"We still pirate traders for 2 mil and just walk away though."
Meaning you could make a liberty rogue with the main faction anyway.
But I guess that's either too scary or whomever just wants to feel special.
(Yes I'm a bit cynical, I guess)

The fact that we officially need to pirate the game to play disco does not help much.
"I used to have the CD" my ass.
