Brian, there is no way in hell I would go up against a missle boat alone. None at all, that would be ever greater suicide than going up against any other Gb in a fighter alone.
However, we had... 1 Crow (me), 2 eagles (Spear and Skoko), 1 Hawk (Chucc) and third eagle (Lohingren) after I left the fight cos I had no guns and had run out of nuke mines.
This was hardly an organised thing, we did it with little planning and went to NY for the roleplay not to get wasted by something we couldn't kill.
Remember here that four of those ships are vanilla ships, and we all know what explosives do to them. This kind of loadout seems to me to be about pwning the hardest and fastest someone can, not about having fun. -That- is my point.

I don't think the gunboat captain and his crew are having "fun" when they keep missing a very fast Gundam-fly.
Why do you care if someone makes a missile boat? He signed his own death warrant against the weakest of caps. So what if he can harras flies? Just dock somewhere and tell your gunboat driving friend to take him down.

Again I say, we are Xenos. What Gunboat? Wait a week until I see either Adam Greerson or Prospector? This kind of loadout makes it -impossible- for the Xenos to operate as soon as it shows up. How much fun do you think it is for one person to end the fun of six?

ok....so dont ask a friend.... ask a merc or BH to take him down.
My merc: Balkanac. Is always at your disposal. I hunt lawfuls and unlawfuls or work for them, its all about cash. AND im not the only one. There are lots of players in gunboats doing bounties.
(if you pick me for the job ill give you a discount, i charge 100k for weakling-heads)
This was the situation:
- I am informed about the presence of 4 xeno ships in system. I'm given names, and by the names (some with the typical "." in name used for secondary characters, a.k.a. usually bombers) i guess it is two bombers and two/three fighters.
- I spot the xenos, 4, i scan them, no bombers. I request them to leave the area. I stop at 3.5 kilometres of the enemy fighters, not firing, not moving, and at that moment i'm alone there.
- One of the fighters proceeds to engage me, the others begin moving towards, so, yes, after they engage, i fire back. Image
- I see there are a couple fighters (LPI & indep) in the area. I proceed to ONLY unshield targets for the fighters. When LPI tells me to avoid shooting a single shot to the fighter he was jousting, i do.
- I completely stop, no shooting, not moving, expecting the fighters to take their chance. THis last about a minute and a half, in which they ram/shoot at me.
- New fighter arrives, black.mamba, to enemy group.
- After that fighter LPI fought is dead, i issue a second warning, warning them that if they do not retreat following shots will be to kill. (check my b/b count, huh, they actually did a dent, don't you think so?) Image
- I focus on black mamba, who didn't dodge, use cm's, use cd's, or whatever, just was jousting me, and killed him after 4-5 passes. He is the first casualty made by the gunboat in the 18 minutes that had been of fight, acording to the timestamps on the screenshots. Image
- The rest of xenos retreat, but for spear, who fights the LPI agent one-on-one, and i stay around there watching. leaving later, after a crash to desktop attacked me, and on relogging i left system.
I issued two warnings to the xenos, first one while stopped not engaging till they engaged first, second while fighting, and a full stop in-between. They did not answer a single word, neither tried to get a peaceful exit first time, when not a single shot was fired from any part. I thought there were bombers, which would have made this better for all, but if as seeing there are no bombers, i do not engage, and try to get a "peaceful" solution to the event, and you engage, that's not exactly all my fault, don't you think so?
PD: Really, i would understand this if i went guns-blazing without warning or anything towards your fighters. But having, now that i read Jihadjoe's last post, five fighters and a sixth one in the way, and engaging FIRST my stopped and pasive ship while i was requesting your intentions and basically giving you an easy chance to leave system/move away of the lane, after having surely scanned me, isn't very intelligent. Well, i guess it's better to fight in fighters a cerberus+infernos+razor gunboats.
*grabs his head and smashes it against the wall, then grabs it from the floor and puts it on his neck again*
PD2: And i was eddie in the fight about xenos + HF. I asked HF if they requested any assistance, they replied affirmatively, so eddie engaged. If an ally requests support, i should just say "no, sorry, it's unfair. Please, die, we will make sure we bury the remains of your corpses with flowers over it"?

HAHAHAHAHAHA, do you even know how unpopular the Xenos are with the bounty hunters? Or that we are an unlawful group? How many mercs do you think are ballsy enough to take contracts against lawfuls in liberty, most mercs just want to escort traders about, not risk their neck on some loonatic rednecks cause.
Dantrithor. Hello *waves* didn't know this was you.
If you were only unshielding the fighters why did I lose all my guns?
I wasn't aware that people engaged you first... Ifact I told them very specifically not to, however it wasn't someone under my command so there is little I can do. I was trying to delay the fight as long as possible. I wan't to correct you about the numers. $ fighter (one a hawk) and a fifth on route.
By the time Black Mamba arrived I had already left the fight 'cos I had no guns and was on route to the sun having used all my nuke mines on you.
How was it if you were doing as you said did I lose most of my bots and bats -before- you sat still and did nothing for a while? Why did I lose three of my guns when no one else opposing us had any explosives of any kind? How is that -not- shooting to kill?
I don't care about losing I care about balencing fights and making them fun. The fact that you say you had to sit still and not shoot surely means you accept that this was unbalenced. Guns are effective and fun. Full missiles has only one thing in mind, wasting the flies that annoy you.
I don't want to get into yet another war de-la flame here dantrithor, I'm not annoyed any more. You can do what you like. I wasn't having a dig at you, nor your roleplay or anything else. Note how I didn't name the ship. I just simply wanted people to be aware of the fact that this simply isn't making for any fun for the Xenos, who can -only- fly fighters and bomber and thus have little way of countering this. After all the fuss you were caught up in about a xeno-hunting-eating (yes I like that roleplay) missile loadout hacker GS I thought you would have noted the fact its not exactly a popular choice.
Beeing a choice umpopular does not mean nobody should do it. As far as i know, that is the only ship of it's kind in liberty... or among the houses. The damage on your weapons could have been done by one/two extra missiles at a time that could have hit your hull, or if you did close passes while i was shooting at someone / beeing cd'ed, as i kept unshielding someone (don't really know who) who did front close-up passes, almost ramming. (and i mean almost, not hitting) was that one you? And, as i wrote in another place, my strategy is swith targets pretty fast, using the arrows around the screen, so sometimes i could fire one group to someone unshielded before noticing it actually has no shields (nobody's perfect). And class 8/9' weapons do not last a lot to missiles.
In that moment, i had two choices: grab my lone fighter (also with missiles. Yeah, i'm a missile whore, i fly at 7 fps and even when im flying at 16 i can't aim guns, bleh) and fight 4+1 ships (insta-death) or take that thing and try to solve the situation in other ways.
Well, anyway, thanks to this ship, HF decided to park battleships around new york a month ago, and by what i saw yesterday, they actually use them (two battleships and one battlecruiser right on top of manhattan). So well, this little thing has many friends willing to destroy it. Who will be the first to manage it? *wink wink*
PS: It's not shooting to kill when, after i do a full-volley (unshield, in certain cases one missile hitting hull), i switch to next shielded target, instead of fast switch back to hit full hull, which means nothing in three passes. See what happened to black mamba, he was fully shielded when i focused on him after last warning, and in 3 joustings he did, he was a toast. And yes, i knew it was unfair, which is why i didn't want to engage at first chance till i was fired upon (and i waited till i had a nice dent on the shield, as you could see on the screenshot), and tried to not to kill anyone to see if you would retreat instead of just fighting to death, or till you hit the imaginary eject buttom i usually disregard on capital ships.
And do not worry, i know you didn't want to flame me specifically or anything. I just feel i should post my point of view of the situation when i'm referred, even not with my name but for my actions, to explain motivations and what i saw. Everything has more than one point of view, after all. I just thought someone issued the order to engage, seeing that a lone fighter of a group engaging a gunboat of any class is a suicide, and that you were moving towards me at that point (might have been your random movements interpreted as hostile by me in that situation though).
Eddie had that configuration because at that moment, i thought it was... crap. Plain and simple. I first used it beeing grouped with captainpoo & other "drunk-arrr" pirates around california, and tried it on them, doing zero damage. Tried on transports, did zero damage, but nice "fireworks". Liked it, then i saw that it actually worked against those bombers, and thoguht "well, it works, i can do as in my fighter with eddie, run from the big things!". The las vegas motivation is different, as it's the only extreme anti-fighter thing you'll find around. Like that AEGIS ship someone mentioned as possible implementation, but with current resources and limitations.
EDIT: Yes, i finished editing this, if someone has read it when it was three paragraphs, and now is shocked about it having 7..
Tried a missle loadout on my own boat... well... worked to a degree
But it became totally unreliable when 3 VHFs concentrated fire and I was in an asteroid field. Lag only made it worse + the missle non-home bug. They'd just go straight!
