It is not, that are the reasons why i don't play zoner.
Once upon a time I was interested in the Zoners. Then someone gave them capital ships and a weird back story, not to mention Baffin and all that cult nonsense.
Here's the way they should be; back to their original inexplicable glory. I'll just say in advance I'm a big fan of vanilla and the original SP which may help explain why.
The Zoners run the Freeports, someone's gotta keep the rabble in line. They are, or should I say should be rather ill equipped to do so. I mean the beginning of the storyline of Freelancer was a Freeport getting blown to hell from a handful of torps.
They aren't a serious faction, they just answer the question of where to land in the border worlds. You may as well call all their bases Freelancer bases because that's more or less what they were supposed to be.
Colony ships I get
Big transports I get
A home planet I do not; being a rag tag bunch that moved out or got kicked out of the houses, they wouldn't have that level of organisation, and if they did, one house or another would claim the land before they even got comfortable.
Neutrality is self serving on their freeports. They don't need to maintain it but it's in the best interest of all the parties involved to stay friendly seeing as it's a pretty convenient location for organised crime etc etc.
One of said factions may turn nasty an nick a biodome or two *glares at sairs*, but it's a risky business dealing with untrustworthy people.
Now if that that were the Zoners then i'd gladly fly as one. None of this ultimate neutrality nonsense, they should be just as vulnerable as everyone else to piracy and war. Perhaps even moreso considering they should have little infrastructure between their Freeports.

well, my argument:
*In 801 as, starkiller swarm could kill a nomad bs
*we are not talking about them from an oorp perspective. by rp, they just needed to gtfo of the houses, and dont mind dealing with anyone
*Home Planet? well , we found one, and OSI , with its enormous wealth, just colonised it. then, it goes boom. why? Ice age. so, you can call the planet issue even
*We have no shortage of people pirating the zoners, albeit the number has gone down due to the overall number of pirates dropping.
thats about it.
edit: and may I add, in some places, zoners are pretty much outlawed?
the Gallic incident, QCP , Omicroners, TAZ 'enema'ing' GRN, Love.Joy, take your pick
Well, a lot of zoners carry the iff as if it was a mark of sainthood and cry raibow rivers if you ruin their vibe.then you got the zonies blaming you via forumlancer making of yourself the origin of all evil...
1. These three quotes from the Wiki
I put --- over some things that did not matter to me.
Quote:The Zoners are a diverse group of individuals who, for various reasons, have decided to live in the wild and unregulated systems outside colonial control. Over time, the Zoners have evolved into an influential and rich factions that invests a lot into deep space exploration
Quote:The news of Zoners spread through Sirius attracting more and more people - craftsmen, veterans, scientists, artists and criminals...
Quote:But Zoners had neither enough time, nor a real need to concentrate on developing military power, although they have always been able to develop technology to be among the best Sirius has ever seen. Their love for freedom and individual occupations as well as the wide spread areas they were living in never allowed the foundation of a common military organization. They preferred to spend their income for further scientific advance, conforming with their curious nature...
Wanted to do some exploration of this universe, so after looking through a lot of factions, this seemes like the best one.
The Mentality
I understood the zoners to be rather peaceful and relaxed.
The Neutrality.
It seemed like best choice to explore, observe and learn.
Corvo/Nephilim.
The descriptions of these two ship perfectly fits the style I would like to play.
Additionally, I think the Corvo has a nice elegant look.
I didn't like the look of the Nephilim at first, but after seeing one ingame and studying its details, I came to really like it.
Snip from Corvo info:
Quote:Family vessels built to be taken beyond the stars, they are not put into the hands of parties suspect of employing them as weapons of war.
Snip from Nephilim info:
Quote:The Zoners who travel into the unknown of deep space trust these ships to sustain them during long explorations that are expected to take several generations, and thus outfit the ships to be capable of light industry and hydroponic food production during the voyage. The Nephilim is also capable of making planetfall and establishing a fully autonomous colony.
It did not really go as planned, but that is another story.
Used to fly as a zoner for roleplay what based on their lore with some mix for my personal taste. Never tried to be an agressive one or explorer one, etc.
Personally I found the zoner "faction" as the best choice to build up a "neutral" priest or something like that, who could trade while fulfill his mission.
I dont know much about other zoners, since I've never been member of any zoner factions on the server, just found a way to enjoy my time here.
Playing a zoner could help you to chill down, while flying on criminal characters.
Being the pacifist underdog and trying to talk my way out of trouble everytime I manage to cause some or just happen to be in the middle/target of it. Paired it with freighter trading I gain a lot of freedom when it comes to interactions and chosing my responses.
A neutral entity that resembles a mercenery, looking for anything that can enrich him, he works in shady ways. That's a zoner to me. Sindroms clearly isnt here to rp but rather shoot, which is rich coming from him. He negelected to mention the "OP" stuff about zoners but carefully airbrushed the fact that even though they have near unlimited ZOI, and 5kers - they can't dock it within houses. So clearly he is not here to share his view point but to rather make a laugh out of it, you know, like a child, Seriously, making a funny sig is supposed to mean something? grow up.
