Christian was sitting in the hangar, staring intently at a display. The left hand side of the screen was set to a quarter of its usual brightness while a camera displayed a thruster and the right hand side was covered in changing data, graphs and numbers providing a real time analysis of the performance of the prototype motor.
Subtle changes in the numbers showed where the Energy Field Equipment was adjusting the pinch to maintain the output in a fusing state. Those modifications were occurring too fast for the human mind to follow, but the Quantum Multiplexors were dealing with Hyun's program almost like they had been custom designed for it.
Christo grinned lazily, murmuring, "Biggest problem'll be makin sure she nae rips loose of the mountin', yeah?"
Sunny walked into the hangar one afternoon as he heard there was new activity where the old Starflea lay in rest, waiting for new fire to burn in it's engine belly. He found Hyun and Christian working on the ship as he entered the hanger and grinned at the duo. "Deep in work, are we? How is progress coming along? Where are we at and what needs help?"
"Well good news we have a working model now the only problem is making sure the acceleration doesn't kill the pilot or rip the engine right out of its mounts."Hyun said as he watched the same screen Christo was in front of. "Hmm, What do you think about a loose fit Christo? We could mount it on a sort of shock absorber so while acceleration would be a bit less the ship would have more time to catch up?
Christo paused, then after thinking for a moment, said, "Heh, what abou' free floatin' tha mountin' like you say but puttin' in a couple o' tractors ta control tha tension? Tha way, tha 'puters can monitor an' keep tha tension inside tolerances. 'twould put some play in tha system."
"Heh, now tha's a thought. If we stack tha rails wit' sliders an' keep 'em strong enough ta support tha engine, a couple o' changes ta tha engine housin' woul' let ya pull it out withou' havin' ta disassemble tha entire arse end."
"Good thought It allows for greater customization as well. I will have the boys work up something for it. Now the only thing left to do is to put it together and actually test this beast out." Hyun finished as he sipped some coffee.
Sunny nodded, following the discussion while his arms were crossed. "We need a detailed report on our findings so that we know if there are any other holes that we are missing. I'll take a look at that and have DIATA create a report. In the meantime, I'm sure you guys know what is needed in terms of materials to get this baby operational. Get me a report so that we can get this delivered into the shop and then built. Good work."
Christian nodded, and said, "Been bringin' tha supplies in as needed. Yon electronic wench already has tha details, but tha only real oddities were tha parts from Gallia for tha fusion stage and tha metalurgy ta handle a fusion thruster."
