I don't bother about guard systems.
I don't see the reason inrp for most of guard systems, but I understand that factions want to have such places. Because of they paid for the system, and they put a lot of work to build it, they have right to keep it.

Some of guard systems are ridiculous. Huge stations, bigger than anything in house space are just... hm...

I like Baffin. I see it inrp, I know Eris is the Queen, I know there is open way through system, one base where I can dock and sell cargo, the rest of the system is restricted.

If system is close (guard battleships at jumphole, and guard patrols everywhere) I don't enter there, this system doesn't exist for me.
I think guard systems should be like Baffin, (no guards in open space only some areas heavily guarded and dangerous), but it depends on system owner.

Yeah, I've always thought it was completely ridiculous that something like a small faction all of a sudden owns an entire solar system.

Yup. Was about to throw some zombie reference here and lock, but I actually read through the comments recently posted, and the original post.

All points are still relevant. There are some factions that have gotten the hint, but by and large, there is a glut of systems for 200 player-max server to have. Adding systems just to add systems wasn't a good idea, but since they're here, they have to stay.

Personally, I wouldn't mind, on some mod update, having a single one-way jumphole put into many systems in Sirius, with the express Admin Notice saying that you have 90 days to move your character out of that system, and then a patch-style update follows deleting said systems from the map.

But that would crank off many people about losses of territory, and that throws me over to Panzer's goodbye post. Actually read it and you'll see what I mean.

fine if factions want their own systems have em but be like RoS they have their own system but its not a guard system, its a place anyone can fly thru.
Discovery looses touch with reality and veres along the lines of stupid RP canon when they start givin every faction their own guard solar system.

I believe more effort should be put into actual systems people can fly through, another example of a beautifully wasted system is Gaian guard system Lewis a whole solar system with only one base for lolgreenpeace pirates ?? Give me a break

I feel fairly indifferent about the Guard Systems. Ok, they are fairly pointless in their aim, but people have paid for them and reserve the right to keep them. Plus in game, they don't own the systems really, they just maintain a heavy presence there, I can understand how Xenos would have a guard system, they just found a jumphole and use it to their advantage. I believe that these systems give a sense of the time between Vanilla and Disco and how all the factions have advanced in that period of time.

Guard systems should be utterly removed from the game - or those with RP relevant to the mod (Omega 52, Omicron 74, Londonderry [redesigned 'Derry, anyway], Baffin, et cetera) should be made into "normal" systems.

Well, you're partly correct. There are two bases open for business to the general public, Shasta and Sedona. (Guard-friendly required for Sedona). And, the only "system" restrictions we enforce are "No-fire" in nature. Ie: No pirating, no taxing, no bountying.

90% of our "Enemas" list are those cabbages who violate our "Temple", Pueblo Bonito; the other 10% have tried to pirate in Baffin, or done some other silly thing to TAZ elsewhere in Sirius.

But if push came to shove, I'd take my 500 Million back, withdraw to Pueblo Bonito, and build a Dyson sphere around it, with coded airlocks. (A very spiky Dyson sphere.) Will that happen? Or, will this thread once again fall lackadaisically into Disco history...

The original idea behind guard systems has long been forgotten by the people buying them.

Why do I rarely work on guard systems anymore?

I'm sick of enabling factions to engage in e-peen wavings through the use of horribly over-modded guard systems that have little regulation.

That sums up my thoughts on the matter.

Well, Dab, i'm finding you and others may be right. Due to apparent Server rules, it appears I may not be able to issue and enforce laws in my own system.

Briefly, i requested my first "Fac 5" today, against someone who refused to respect our "Baffin Pentabarf". To wit, docking at Pueblo Bonito without being a TAZ member, Acolyte, or even seeking permission.

Granted the person in question had Zoner Guard ID/Zoner IFF. But, if my plea is denied, then the Baffin Pentabarf is as useless as the proverbial teats on a boar; and owning said Baffin is now a meaningless "honor".

Next I'll probably find out that I'm in the wrong for putting the person on our KoS list, and under contract to MM as well.

I'm not amused.
