Nah, your try is really nice, as it stays close to the vanilla navmap.
I didn't comment just yet, since I don't really know whether or not I like the idea of representing any starsphere in the big navmap.

Well the thing I like about having lots of ties between the nav map and what you see 'in system' is that (for me) it really helps to heighten the sense of space and of the universe and of ones location in it.

I put your map on my iPod touch BTW so that I can always have it handy while playing :cool:
