Right now the difference between a BS and cruiser is about 90 million. With Korrd's suggestion, it would be about 800 million. You could get alot more cruisers running around than BSs. So really the BS wouldn't be able to fly anywhere and kill everyone. Not with people in cruisers.
I'm not talking only about battleships, but about all the big ships around.
Take as an example the RH bomber vs a Cruiser..
The RH Bomber will pwn the cruiser with no effort.
All the big ships out there need to be upgraded to the correct status, not to be left as vanilla. Where battleships were big clumsy targets for the player to kill, and make the mission more challenging.

Maybe... maybe... I've my opionion. You've yours. The two are different and none of us can have any certanty, since all these stuffs do not exist yet. If you want me to adere to your opinion you must bring some kind of evindence. And it's obviously impossible since these ships do not exist.
I just do not agree with you on this point, that's all. We both live in democracies and thus we are free to keep our own opinions if we like to do it. I don't find your arguments really convincing. You don't find my arguments really convincing. Thus both of us will keep our own opinions and keep living.
Nothing more to add. :)
edit (after reading Korrd's reply)@Korrd Yap... maybe. I'm just worried about newcomers. Now a newcomer can arrive (like me a couple of months ago) and in a reasonable amount of time be able to buy a good ship and defend himself from incumbents, if they misbehave, without asking Admin to help. If your changes will be implemented it's very likely that this "reasonable amount of time" will be multiplied up to 10 times or even more. I'm not saying it's necessary wrong but we should know it will happen... and probably many newcomers will find it very frustrating.

But it would correct the vast imbalance of ships that we currently have on the server, I don't think that anyone should ba able to get a battleship within a week of being on the server, regardless of how much they trade, it just shouldn't be possible. However, makingg them cost 1500 mil is a bit excessive. Currently, the base battlehsip cost hovers around 225 mil, correct? Why not up it to about 400 mil, then double cruiser prices, and make bombers cost abourt 100 mil.
Oh, and I like the idea about 2 classes of BS weapons, But it might be kinda hard to do. And can we de-nerf missle turrets? they are only good against NPC's now, and people that fly in straight lines at slow speeds in light fighters...

Ok, I haven't read the full 50 pages of the previous thread, but I did read some and I've read the whole of this one.
This thread seems to be mostly about capships now and here's my opinion of what I've read:
Battleships should be hard to come by, so beefing their weapons and armour as well as their prices isn't a bad idea. But at the same time this would unbalance the game in the way LumpLorry describes. I say it's worth a try though, perhaps change the reputation requirements for buying them (I don't know what the requirements are since I'm almost exclusively into trading).
Here's a few changes I propose:
Change the infocards with formulations that cannot be misinterpreted according to the newly debated pvp rules.
Beef up the NPCs in the vanilla systems - That would force players to band together when doing things. Which in turn promotes RP
Populate the Ontario and Inverness systems, at least around the jumpholes, as it is now, they're just empty space (haven't checked out all the other new systems)
Lose the Star Wars ships as they kind of ruin the Freelancer-mood
I'll explain about the Star Wars ships. First of all, I'm a really big fan of Star Wars. Anything Star Wars is generally better than anything else (even a bad Star Wars movie is better than any mediocre sci-fi movie).
Anyways..:yahoo:
The Freelancer universe is definately something I like. This MOD is THE best I've played so far. Except for the Star Wars ships (and any other sci-fi ship really, but the SW-ships in particular). This MOD let's you fly (as far as I know) every ship in the original game, that should be enough. UNLESS some nice person makes an original model that is based on the original FL-ships. I'll give you an example from another MOD: the Starlifter of the Asgard RPG MOD. It's a freighter based on the Starflier. I know that you'd need permission from the person who made the model to use them and that whoever made that ship might want it to be exclusive to that MOD. But you get the idea. If it's in the original game and you expand that content, that's really nice. Taking content from other games/series/movies is not so nice.
Originality is the way to go.
About the NPCs: First of all, this would help making it harder getting large ships (such as Battleships) and it will also prevent players from speed levelling new characters or changing their rep back and forth. Also, most players, will have played the single player game before joining any MODded server, I know most players I know did anyways. So if they meet beefed up NPCs there's still challenge in the game.

Not ALL the SW ships have been bad. Zoner Juggernaut is just fine, even though its the Banking Clan Cruiser from SW Ep III.
@Jonatan; All new systems atm are empty. Guards only have one base and patrols. They will be slowly modded (One system takes a long time itself, doing all the systems in one version would require a few months + multiple people.) and populated, but not all at once. Mostly its for people who buy systems for their faction, then pay a system modder (Angel, Myself, [I don't think Nightfall is taking orders atm, have to talk to him) to mod it for them.

Agreed, not ALL SW ships are bad, just the obvious ones ("Whale" for instance). As long as any ship isn't obviously from another game/movie, they're allright.
If there is need for system creators, I did some MODding a couple of years ago, mostly system MODding so I could probably give a hand if the unpopulated systems aren't on hold or reserved or anything.
IF the empty systems are reserved, I think that they shouldn't be added until they are populated, at least in part.
EDIT: I would have to refresh my memory first though. I'll get right on that btw..
