as i said - a few "special" chars that use the ships are no problem. - and i don t care if they got through the approval process or not - thats totally insignificant imo ... it doesn t improve RP to be improved and it doesn t mean the RP is inferior if they haven t... .
but a few things must be kept in mind.
the ships are designed based on a rough concept WITH the harvester idea. - they don t have this look, cause i felt like it at that time.... but it was a feedback process that got to this shape. - there is an intention behind them to look like that - and that intention is anchored in the harvesters origin.
the harvesters have no "canon" history or RP, cause they are a custom faction. but since the ships are based on THEIR needs and ideas.... i would expect RP that uses these ships to build on the RP based on the harvesters ( on how the ships came into being )
i had a longer story about how the zoners triggered the production of those vessels written up - but due to the length of the text - it was shortened to a more default length ( well, we cant really write a whole novel into an ID card... )
all that has NO significance when its about rules. - but its background knowledge about the ships. - these ships are NOT AI ships, they are harvester ships - and they stay harvester ships cause they were designed as those.
that doesn t mean they cannot be used otherwise. - but they are as much a generic AI unit - as the zoner juggernaut is a battleship. - or as much a harvester ship as the zoner juggernaut is meant to be an antonomous mini-colony that is supposed to be able to supply itself with life support and everything that is needed for a small zoner colony.
so - imo.. its good manners to ask the harvesters and RP based on THEIR idea of the ships. - its not a rule... but like i said.... good manners.

The infocard refers to it as an AI ship and it uses the AI ID.
If it is stated somewhere officially, either on the inforcard or on the forums, as a Harvester ship then I'll gladly regard it as such.
Till then it's an AI ship in reality.
The Yacht could have been a civilian gunboat but it went the Yacht way, which is a very nice way to go btw:P, but the origins are still there. It could have been a gunboat, like this AI ship was meant to be the harvester ship.
It just seems a bit cheap to give a ship open to all AI players and then to suddenly revert it to a Harvester ship, even if it that was the original intention, as things have changed and people have purchased the ship as other AIs.

Also, you never answered my question. Where does it say you have to have an AI ID in order to fly that ship? I got slightly hostile towards you, becuase your attitude seemed to imply that you felt only Havesters should be allowed to fly it.

We're all supportive of AI indies and factions. And i also share your oppinion:

None should have exclusive rights to ships if we want to be fair, but you get granted those trough lobbying constantly with numerous factionmembers.

But since its a trend that other major faction follow to make them seem 1337 to the average player and gain more members we also didn't want to be cut down on that privilege. I think such things are obvious an that everyone understands the concept behind it.
Besides. Factions such as Harvesters, SCRA, Phantoms etc... like too keep their ship to them selves for another (better) reason. We protect our lore with it.
How? Well you don't see players using Coalition ships to escort traders in Liberty saying they "stole them" or "found them" or others using nomad gunboats and RPing that they engineered some sort of control over it, which is ofc illogical if you consider their official RP. Restricting players from openly using them protects the keepers from players that would powerplay ignoring their effort put into RP.
We also didn't want our ships (yes, before Scorn left they were our ships, and everyone knew it) to be used by humans since the Harvesters consider humans inferior. And would, as Geisha told you, reject the Human component.
You are not using the ship they way it was intended, but you're not to blame... they are officially free to use and there is nothing the rules say restricting you from shaping its story anyway you want.
I would also use Nomad and Coalition ships if they got screwed like we did, so I know why you did it and i don't blame you... none does. Your story is good and you're welcome to proceed with it.

I am the infamous EXJ-03069. He is my pride and joy of all things. I just use a Zoner Guard ID and IFF. It's very fitting for a solitary, independent machine. Just do what I did.
If I need an AI ID, I'm going to rage. I spent too long on EXJ and if he is killed for this stupid reason....

for some reason, i think an AI would be a freelancer more than a zoner. But remember, theoretically, an AI can belong to any faction (read id description) and RP as a member of that faction. So, I'd get the AI tag and keep your Zoner IFF to be safe. Last thing you need is for someone to sanction you.
