A person doesn't decide to be a Duke, a person is promoted by the GRN to be a Duke; it's not the decision of the individual at all. If you decide to step over the rules and regulations of our fleet and use, say, a cruiser anyway... well, I don't think we'd take too kindly to imposters and possible spies.

Err, no.. You can't stop someone from roleplaying what they want. If an independent player chooses to roleplay being a Duke, Knight, or even a Baron you can't say no unless they give you good cause and provocation.
Needless to say you're an unofficial group, with no rights to order independent players. So are we really moving back to "If you call yourself an admiral I'm going to gank you"?
And should you gain official status:
RESPONSIBILITIES ASSOCIATED WITH RIGHT 2 Wrote:2) Official factions that are attempting to represent the entirety of a NPC affiliation have the responsibility to be caretakers of the history and evolving storyline of the NPC faction in such a way that it remains open to involvement by non-player faction affiliates to the extent that is permitted by the server rules. Official factions have a responsibility to incorporate willing and responsible "independent" characters belonging to their NPC faction affiliation into the ordinary operations and activities taking place in the faction's territory as much as possible. Official faction members have the responsibility to set a high standard of roleplaying within character, as well as courtesy and respect during all OOC communications. Official faction members should strive to follow the spirit of the server rules to the best of their ability, and avoid rules-lawyering, loopholing, or exploiting their knowledge for personal gain. Official factions should strive to be the primary instigators of fun within the faction affiliation, and excel as problem solvers and conflict resolution experts when there are player difficulties.
As I read it, that means if you take on the role of the GRN in its entirety, you have to play nice and not exclude the non-club boys, and respective girls. Which judging by your controlling and abrasive attitude, you aren't keen on.

Why not Turkish? Two people have already declared themselves the Crown Prince and Princess...
If you want to make an indie that is royalty (other than the king/queen themselves of course), there is nothing stopping you.

If someone want's to make an indie char that is nobility, there is nothing the GRN can say or do to stop it. Sorry. The GRN doesn't have a monopoly on the title "Duke".
Well I was operating under the assumption that, because this just so happens to be a topic about the GRN player faction, you were implying simply becoming a Duke once you joined us. I'm not sure why you would even bother to ask us if you were planning on being an independent character anyway; as you so vividly reminded everyone (needlessly, I might add) we have no sway over independent characters. So I suppose it was a misunderstanding, though I am still slightly confused why you would even bother to ask us about a character if you were not planning on joining the player group, the topic of this thread, and knew we could not control an independent player.
I was merely explaining that our faction has a rigid and structured ranking system, true to what the GRN would have. I'm sorry you took it as "controlling" and "abrasive".
Well I for one wasn't trying to start something there... And I'm also generally a faction fanboy... but still, it seemed you were trying to tell Turk he couldn't play one. My bad.
I never tried to offend anyone either. It was a misunderstanding. I always encourage people to become interested in Gallia and try to increase activity there, regardless of sides or factions. Again, I apologize to Turkish.
I apologize as well, I misread the sentiment of your words. I was asking so that we could gauge how you will be handling independent players and what your polisicies might be.
Again though, my apologies for any hassle this has caused.
