I like the sound of that. I don't think it would be hard, just make teh weird creatures as ships and make then float around and blast at you with Mind heat or snip your ship in half with giant claws! They could drop commodities like "Space crab meat" or something, and its like Luxury Food.
It might work, but think about it. Discovery is about enhancing the FL universe. I mean, this may be kinda cool, but at the most, it should be NPCs only. We'd have a PvP-raper in a huge crab "Kill me now!!! I am awesome crabby of space!"
I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.
RP Story (Still deciding whether or not to finish)
The organic ships might not be a good idea, especially as most carbon-based structures could not withstand the constant battering of space, let alone generate shields. Besides, it's impossible to have something alive in space - all of its contained gases are sucked out of it since it is porous.
Gentlemen... I beleive most of you (if not all) have seen the tiny bacteria flying around in certain places of the sirius sector (mostly nomad space, like omicron minor). Besides, as I said before, science has confirmed, that certain lifeforms can withstand the harsh vacuum environment. Moreover, there are bacteria on earth (very deadly if not treated medically) that use no oxygen (or any other gas) at all. As for the "pilotability" aspect, in the current circumstances, I say thy should't be availible to any player at all. (those ships are after all animals). And besides, discovery could use some wildlife, the infocard on the luxury food commdity says, that it comes from the animals found on the discovered planets (local wildlife), so if there is something on the planets, why shouldn't there be something beyond them. The idea of those monstrosities spawning luxury food is worth taking into account.
lol, sorry to let u post all this panzer, i should'v done it 2 ( since it was our idea), annyway maybye we could make a poll out of this? we allready begon some minor constructions of the creature's and if 50% of the voters say "Yes we want" , maybye we could get a little help then?
You know the simple solution to the arguments about who or what nationality was on each ship is that they probably contained people of ALL nationalities - just because the sleeper ships were sponsored in their construction by the four nations it doesn't meen that people on them were all from the countries they represent in game - I'm sure there were Greeks on the Hispania, Norwegians on the Rheinland and even Irish people from the Republic on the Bretonia. Heck in all technicality there could be Russians , Chinese and Middle Eastern Coalition decendents amongst us for two reasons:
1) The Coalition did get spies on to the sleepers, hence the reason the Hispania fell short.
2) NOT ALL people of the nationalities necessarily supported the Coalition.
Templar's right - don't be silly and claim that it isn't possible just because Terrestrial life can't survive in a vacuum.
Have none of you seen Farscape (though the Leviathans are probably not too good an example, but they're still living creatures, whether they were bred to be ships or not), or the various Star Trek episodes involving space-habiting creatures? Sci-fi is replete with such things.

FIVE nations, Butler. Don't forget the Hispania, even though the ship had an accident and the survivors separated and became criminals to the Houses formed by those of the other four sleeper ships. You even mention the Hispania later in the post.
The Bretonia,
The Rheinland,
The Hispania,
The Kusari,
The Liberty...
Anyway, yes, you make a very good point. I fully expect that the other nationalities ended up sharing a ship with the five main nations.
The Liberty, most of all, should have had a great variety of nationalities just by the very nature of the United States as a 'melting pot' of cultures.
EDIT: I fully expect New York - Planet Manhattan especially - to be home to many Liberty Italians. It would be more than fitting. As well, Rheinland probably has some French and Italian among them, as well. The Kusari may have taken in as many of Asian persuasion as they could, due to the desperation of the situation - it was two centuries and a half into the future from now, the Japanese may have thrown off their prejudices to foreigners for the sake of the crisis.
French may have gotten on the Bretonia, as well, along with the others of the British Isles, as was already suggested. Basically, the French got around. *chuckles*
Anyway... Who else would be on the Bretonia? Probably not too many. Mostly just members of the Commonwealth, I suppose, or 'former Commonwealth' ... That is, Indians, Australians... There should be a Sydney and a Delhi system in Bretonia space! (er... I dunno)
Apparently Liberty's been lumped with the Canadians (Quebec system or something? I forget), which means they probably got the Mexicans, too. Who knows how much of the rest of Latin America, though... Maybe Liberty should have a Brazil system, just in case?
