Please note that this is coming from someone who is a faction leader.

1) Regarding an earlier post, official factions already do receive their 500 million deposit back upon receiving official status.

2) Good faction RP for new factions is already incentivized with the CAP VIII armor program.

3) Determining what a reasonable amount is will be tricky and result in much whining.

4) Determining which factions will and which factions will not deserve subsidies will be tricky and result in much whining.

5) Handing out subsidies to factions based on nebulous factors such as "good RP" or "well-RP'd events" will be tricky and result in much whining, not to mention the fact that it will grant some factions financial benefits over others that are OORP- giving more to the Xenos than Interspace Commerce, for example.

All in all, this program would be hard to implement fairly and almost certainly result in conflicts of interest, whether they be real or imaginary.

However, if you want to do it in a way to maximize the fairness and avoid as much whining as possible, simply grant each active official faction the same amount at the same intervals. That way you can make it easier for factions to stay afloat financially without splitting up costs in a way that could be perceived as unfair.

As for the idea that some factions would just sit on their hands- we have a system for that. It's called abolishing inactive factions.

Credits are over-rated. There's only so much you can do with them in-game. As it stands now, 10 hours a week of trading (4-6 people) should be enough to support most factions for everything they need.

good idea kind of but in the end i would say pointless.

We can all already RP we get our funding from taxes etc, the part about getting funds from oorp transfers aint exactly real anymore since the good old /givecash command came about.

Basically the trading part of the faction is not ooRP because in essance it aint anything to do with the faction when your on your trader, sure you may be trading to give money to a faction, but you aint IRP doing that...

So my answer nein, I am a faction leader, i have poured alot of money into RoS, and so have many others... but none of us grudge this, sure i have traded so much for the faction that i never wanna look at another trade ship again, but in the end... I started this faction knowing what i was in for, and in the end if you didnt expect to put a bit of time into it... well im sorry to say you aint fit to lead. (not aimed at anyone its just a general statement)

Also, why should offical factions get cash for nothing? Frankly, if they work now they can work continuously, if they spend money like no tommorow then thats poor judgement on their part. (such as IL-s heavy cap fleet for indies, that was my bad, and i admit it.)

The entire point of a faction is to be able to earn money as a colective. even though free money is good, i think that some sort of wage should be sorted out of government factions. nobody gets something for nothing.

for example. if somone was on for a certain period of time, they get a little bit of money. alternativley, make trading more profitable.

O.o

You have 10 hours a week of free time!? I get about 6... if I'm lucky.

Also, there are certain factions like the BAF, BPA, LPI, Kusari factions I haven't seen online for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

But as I said, not everyone has the time.

Oh well then, this get's a resounding 'no'.

Lock time!

I'm with quorg here. 500mil is the cash you get back, cap8 armor is something you can sell, and you should have enough funds for few months, in what time you should focus on small donations from your faction to collect 500mil again

Free money, money for nothing, that's not what this is about. Those of you who keep saying that should look and think over the idea once or twice more.

It's also not about devoting time to a faction, either. As a faction leader, there is a plethora of things to spend time on in the faction. There is in-game role-play, diplomatic and other forum role-play, event organization, recruitment, teaching and training, discussions with admins and the development team, so on, and so forth. If a faction leader is spending more time trying to get credits than doing these things, he's either doing something wrong or the system just isn't right.

What I mean to say is that the act of devoting time is irrelevant and needless in itself. The saying "work smart, not hard" might be fitting. A faction would very likely be far more successful if its leaders spent their time on leading the faction than if they spent their time funding the faction.

Perhaps it's this kind of wording that leads some of you to conclude that this, in fact, is about free money for nothing. But even though spending inordinate amounts of time funding the faction is unhealthy, funding the faction is an important part of faction leadership. Some leaders decide to do it themselves, others ask for donations, others organize fundraisers. It does not make sense to completely eliminate it from the equation entirely.

Some people here at DiscoveryGC love using the supreme and ultimately versatile non-argument: "It's a game." I don't -- and I'm not -- as a matter of principle, but it might make some sense here. Spending too much time trading -- whether it's the faction leader or faction members doing it -- isn't synonymous with having too much fun.

Coming from another server that the Admins actually gave a weekly bonus of money to the factions.

They (the Admins) had a set up where each base said faction owned brought in a certain set amount of money. A House faction (Corporations/Military/Police all in one, that acts like a general Government.) would get more money than a Pirate faction due to the Corps/Military/Police bases being combined all together.

Since all the factions aren't combined into several house factions, the numerous smaller factions would get a steady income per base they own.

Example:

Battleship Norfolk - $500,000
Battleship Derby - $500,000
Battleship York - $350,000

If the BAF only had those three battleships, they would get 1,350,000 credits each week.

Suffolk 500k
Essex 500k
Norfolk 500k
Derby 350k
Ark Royal 350k
Sterling 400k
York 350k
McDuff 200k

See where I'm going with it?

((Post cut short as I'm running late.))
