No problem Igiss. I will reduce the size. I kinda forgot how small the trade lanes are.:$I'll make it similar in size to the Train and fill the frame in the middle w/ fake cargo pods.
@I m rdy: This is the first train model I grabbed to import for size. Didn't realize it was different that the pilotable one.
The fore and aft sections are pretty much complete except for some detailing. the next section work will be done on is the central container area. The sizeing will be done after modeling is complete.
I would apreciate any and all suggestion. What kind of containers do you want to see in the central area; part of the ship like a real tanker or seperate like the Container Transport? (there will be no interchangable pod hardpoints) What kind of details and "frills" wouls you like to see? Etc.
I'd prefer to see a solid cargo area that looks like it's part of the ship, rather than the separate cargo pods like those on the C-Tran. More like a Rhino or Humpback (though obviously much larger).
Suggestion is: drop the number of engine slots to 8 or less. Freelancer cannot display more than 8 engines per 1 ship. EDIT: Or maybe 10, I'll try to find out. Anyone flying the Bounty Hunter Destroyer? How many engine trails it has?
Here's my suggestion about possible size of this ship:
Should be a little shorter than the Large Train. This would make 4500-4800 cargo capacity logical.
Also, looking at the Train model together with this one... the upper "bridge" section with the window might be made 1,2-1,5 times larger to suit the scaling.
Maybe the middle of the ship could be given more a skeletal structure with the cargo pods inside? Not a ton of fps-sucking detail... just a few big support beams. That's just to appease people who like cargo pods on big transports. Personally I like the look of it now.
Re: weapons loadouts for this (and the whale), I know you want to make these ships unable to fight. Trouble is NO guns makes them unable to mine as well. Give this guy one class 1 turret mounted above the bridge as a means to fill it's hold for free. [Yeah, mining thousands of units is hella boring, but if you're a miner that's "roleplay" :-) ]
I like transports that look ugly and not very streamlined. Something that big should be offensive and gratuitous. And since in space aerodynamics are meaningless making some really sharp ugly edges would be nice.
However your model seems very closely based on contemporary sea going mega ships. Maybe a crane super structure on top to echo what we see today.
And if you ever get to texturing maybe a very rusted out look would be nice.
Okay, I'll keep the current 12 engines until told otherwise. The detailing will mainly deal w/ the bridges, the front end and possibly underneath, so if they need fixing I can do that easily.
I say make the containers part of the ship not seperated from it. I like it. If this is integrated, RepEx will be adding many of these to its fleet of transports.
