' Wrote:I hate the cockpits honestly. I liked them before they got all the crisscrossing metal beams. In freelancer all ships have a transparent cockpits. I use to think the same way, why make it transparent? But, I learned, thanks to a beat down I got from ashes several months ago on one of my ship. It doesn't look freelancer with out it. If you can't do it yourself ask someone who can. It's really not hard.
That's true. Having worked on the Coalition ships quite a lot (had to fix quite a few errors in the models and textures) I can tell you that unfortunately a transparent cockpit glass won't work without rebuilding the entire cockpit.
The way I see it, Current Coalition ships are Pretty but not functional
These new ships are functional, but not pretty.
They'll do for now, and it'll mean the Coalition will have some decent ships they can fly without getting royally pwned every time.
I'd like to see the Coalition line revised again though, there's a lot that can be done to increase the quality of the ships. But for now, the Coalition seem happy with these ships.

Eh, actually. Communism itself may be found offensive by some people, with or without red stars. No reason to remove the representative symbolism of a whole faction concept just because some people whine about it imo. There's always someone who gets offended without a real reason. Try to think about leaving those red stars, they would fit with the ship and its goal better.
(Irrelevant personal notice that I couldn't save: I hate when they mix cyrillic characters with latin, so it would look more "Russian". >_>)
I don't understand people who say the current models are nice. I mean seriously people have you seen one of them close up? It's a box with two wings from its corners. The texture job is disappointing, the hitbox is tragic, the size is horrid. Those are the current coalition fighters in a nutshell. Yes, I liked the shape of the coalition fighters in the freelancer intro, but I studied them during my own attempt to recreate them (which sadly failed due to lack of time on my part) and believe me when I say that the current SCRA fighters have *nothing* in common with the ones in the intro. The wing pattern is at most vaguely similar, it was done totally differently in the intro. Study it and see.
The new ones? Look nice, nicer texture (aye), a fitting hitbox. They might not be perfect, but they are a thousandfold improvement.
Also the actual reason why we didn't want to keep the red star is because of a superior logo devised by Izaak. It looks more freelancerish this way.

Communism? Stalinism, I can understand. I can understand quite well why SCRA wishes to not be identified with that era - some people seem to think that Stalinism = Communism. Which, quite frankly, is plain silly. Stalinism doesn't represent the Communist ideals fully. Not by a long shot. So anyone who finds Communism offensive should inform themselves about Communism really.
I agree with the issue about the canopy; if an F-15 canopy had bows all over like that I'd go insane, whether or not I had a fancy targeting system. And the Hessian-esque power core in the back juts out through the model; you can see where it overlaps and isn't really melded with the body. I'd say shrink that just a bit. Otherwise yeah, I see everyone's point; the current fighters look more abstract and fit the whole "Eastern not Western" deal going on, but they are very impractical in a fight.
I like the cylindrical generator thing in the middle of each ship, these look great IMO... not quite as aggressive looking as the current shipline though.
I wonder how the gunboat and cruiser would look if done in this style...
