I don't disagree on any particular point here. But, if I may, I would like to propose a small ammendment to the "1 System" theory.

You have one system, right? That's all right, but the Rhinland Navy is in more than one system. They show up in all of Rhinland. So, how about we get zones of influence? The RM would own New Berlin, and be active in the surrounding systems (Frankfurt, Dresden, Stutgart, Hamburg). Once you got beyond that, you wouldn't find much except maybe a few fighter partolls relativly close to the Jumpgates (Not jumpholes, jumpgates).

RM owns New Berlin.
They have heavy influence (A handful of gunboats, possibly a few cruisers and in rare cases a battleship) in Frankfurt, Stutgart, Dresden, and Hamburg.
They have some influence in the system directly connected to the heavy inluence systems.

You chose one "Home system," then the next level of systems connected by jumpgates (In the houses. in the borderworlds, you'll have to use jumpholes for the influence things). Then the last level is the small influence (restricted to the jumpgates/holes when patroling your "teritory").

This is the real true story of rock and roll; it was not about anything more then, how to live your life, as a gangster, in sartorial splendor, and turning the world into a place where normality would never return again...- Malcolm McLaren

Easy enough to show on the map as spheres (well in this case circles) of influence. Also allows for overlap.

Following Kane's suggestion, the current map would look something like below, unclaimed systems can be influenced but not made as a home system. Sphere's that overlap would indicate either an agreement or a disputed zone (at the moment none are overlapping). If three factions are influencing the same area, the region would become blank (example, there should probably be a hole around New York). Opinions?

I like the idea. It allows you to keep a "territory", without the need of owning the systems.
Spheres cannot overlap, and if a new faction choose a homesystem that is insde the sphere of influence of another faction, a hole in the sphere is created, containing the sphere of influence of the new faction.

Guess one difference is that new factions have more selection for their home system.

But Met has a point, apart from allowing new factions to take claimed systems as home systems, we haven't changed anything. There should be a limit so a single faction can't say "I own/claim/influence everywhere."

But would the following satisfy everyone:
1) A faction has one home system and (for arguement sake) MAY have up to 4 others claimed or "influenced".
2) The claimed systems must be connected to another claimed or home system.
3) Any new faction can select an available or even a claimed system for its home system.
4) Home and claimed systems can be moved as required. Each faction is allowed only one change a week, which includes the addition of new claimed systems. (Need some type of time restriction to prevent sudden shifts)

Ok, sounds agreeable: as long as AW has what it has, Dab won't complain. At least...

I suggest that system overtaking by combat or buying/selling will be a thing of the past. No more random system battles. Wolfpack is right, Freelancer was not designed for that.

Instead, I suggest that server admins will set one or two systems that are free for claiming. The choice will be made taking in regard opinions of forum members. Afterwards, factions will be free to fight for that system, or buy it if no one wishes to fight.

Firebird should change the map: Unknown does not belong to AW, Liberty is zone free of any factions, no more SF there.

I also suggest that everyone who owns Omega systems will free them, to make Omega sector first where system battles will take place. As all three strongest factions (AW, RM, SF) are represented there, I suppose that it can be done, if anyone is still willing to fight.

Well, the official map is still in the faction status page and that hasn't changed yet. Although, I will drop IG and -=?=- off the list and map, ASAP. Visually, what do you think was better the shaded regions or the markers?

Shaded regions way better. And I've already deleted IG and -=? from faction thread. They are no more, officially.

Important thread about faction reputations, new one:

Essential read for everyone involved in factions.
