I dont really have the experience with the mod necessary to give a qualified opinion, but...
Yes, the NPC's are hard, especially Corsairs, they're like over-caffeinated crack-heads in an obscenely maneuverable light fighter, I couldn't dream of pulling off the s*** they can. It makes combat missions an ineffective form of earning cash. Not lots of cash, no one should be able to compete with traders, making money is what they do, but enough to pay for the bb i use in the missions at least.
I dont have the experience to effectively complain, so I wont suggest any changes. I'd only ask the admins to take a look and think about it. Maybe im just being a stupid noob who doesnt know how to fly, Ill play a bit more and figure that out.
But something, anything, to make the learning curve for this mod a little less steep, would be nice.
In 4.83 I made a character funded totally off combat missions, it was a long process but it was possible. In 4.84 I can't see myself doing that. It's either my trader has spoiled me or the NPC's are indeed more troublesome. I'm guessing it's the trading that killed it for me.
But like I said before in a different thread, the NPC pilots seem more suicidal than usual, level 6 and under attacking my freighter armed with level 4 transport guns. Also they tend to ram into my ships a lot more. Other than that they still pull the usual zig-zag lag maneuvers and other stuff.
Low level legionnaires.... all I have to say about them, is that they need to be made slower in general. Their movements defy the laws of physics as well as being impossible to replicate by a human player.
I must admit, I don't face low level NPCs in low level ships at all, but I can understand that it is very hard, just from the sheer volume of posts about the subject.
High level fighter NPC's are all okay though. Capital ships that you face in missions are good too. They really pound you if you even blink.
But the capital ship patrols around planets have to armour in my opinion. If this could be reduced to 3.5 - 4 times the base armour of the NPC ship, then I would think that was fair, especially if they get shields in the next version. But even if that wasn't the case, I think the armour value should be reduced.
I think that NPCs should be reduced in combat ability simply because of this:
This is an RP game designed so that players can socialize with other players. That is why we have been increasing the player slots for so long. The point of the game is not to go around shooting NPCs all day long.
I don't get much time to play, but when I occasionally get online, I typically take a few missions to get some of my friends reps up. Because of the NPCs, this is impossible, and usually, I don't even finish within at least 30 min.
The only missions I ever take now are assasinations and tractor loot. I go in and get out.
The new NPCs just make it crazy to actually RP at all, since all my time is spent shooting at them.

I fought a level 9 (!) mission in my Bretonian Bomber, to get the BPA rep, and couldn't win from some corsairs in legionnairs. It's ridiculous. This way I can never get my BPA rep, since my bribes seem to be bugged:(. I can only do Base Destruction missions (and only if I can keep the ships live).:rtfm:
Edit: Imo the regen is the only problem, and maybe their agility, the rest is fine.
Well corsairs are famous as great pilots... So no suprise there, if their skills seem unhuman,...
I found that by careful aming, and clicking the mouse button for each shot, not just holding it, npc's became much easier to destroy... So try this one click one shot trick first.
Some are overpowered though... Freelancers for example take ages to take down even with a battleship....

I'd like to see just generally less NPCs the last few weeks there has seemed to be more than ever why this is I don't know but occasionally my gunboats been so swamped by them they take the shield down in a matter of seconds (this is especially true in Tau31 near the Leeds jump gate) .
Generally I see NPCs as more as a nuisance than anything else your trying to get somewhere and they insist on cruise disrupting you over and over and taking down trade lanes.
I don't want to see NPCs removed completely however or made weaker just less of them would work for me.
My biggest frustration with them is the "Freelancer NPCs" I really hate them with a passion and you cant even undock without a couple appearing immediately they are the single most annoying thing about this Mod actually
to me they take an age to kill even in a gunboat.
