No trade routes to Bretonia -> No Traders
No traders -> No pirates
No pirated traders/pirates -> No military
No military and/or traders -> No pirates.
Face it people, there is absolutely NOTHING happening in Bretonia. The most I've seen in ALL of Bretonia at one time was 6 people. At the same time, New York had about 24. ONE system had 4 times the amount of players that all of Bretonia had. Please disable the pvp ffs. Its ruining crap even more. While we're at it, give each house an equal trade route.
Dab's right. No trade into Bretonia means not much of anything's gonna happen there. Cardamine prices there are crap, same for Kusari. Why? I dunno. Maybe raising it to the Rheinland levels (read: about 1400 each) would help? And other commodities too, Cardamine was just an example.
I'm sure you've seen the list of commodities posted by the Bret PCs, which are considered "aiding the Kusaran war effort".
QCO is essentially shooting itself in the foot here. Folks might trade through Bretonia if there were only the occassional pirates to worry about; but now traders have to worry about being extorted by the House lawfuls as well.
Yeah, I can bypass Bretonian space to hump deuterium to Honshu. It's a pain in the butt, but it can be done. Or, I can lose a little profit and haul it to the Isis, or Pittsburgh. All of which contributes to leaving folks in Bretonia without much to do.
So, Dab, I agree with your formula. But, there are profitable trade routes through Bretonia.. Admiral Sulu and the KNF aren't getting all pissy about deliveries of optical chips to Cambridge, or Plutonium to.. wherever..
One's roleplay "rules" can encourage activity, or they can kill it. A little thought on the subject might be in order.
Kusari is on a most profitable legal trade route.
Sigmas are overwhelmed.
Brettonia needs a good Trading route, yes.
That is what i'v suggested in Balance thread already.
All houses should have good Trade routes, so people can choose which one to take.
As it is now, the situation is next :
For legal traders : "All paths lead to Dresden".
For smugglers : "All paths lead to NY"
There is no good alternative, and that is exactly the reason why some systems are overpopulated, while others are literally empty.
And if Mal is correct, then we have another problem.
I am not really familiarized with that one, so i'l skip it.

I would like to say that the Liberty Rogues did not ask for assisstance in raiding New York. In fact we barely had any ships online so we couldn't have arranged anything.
As for the Libertonian Resistance...it was initialy formed as a council of sorts, of all the allied pirate factions on the Outcast side. The name was suggested as most of the factions had perfectly RP-legal reasons to operate in Liberty and were, for the most part, directly against Liberty.
On to the issue of attacking/raiding places other than Manhattan...we, the Liberty Rogues, have tried this on many occasions. Taking orbit around Prison Stations, cutting off California etc. What happens when we do this is always the same, the LSF and SA camp out around us and just sit there, waiting. We wait for around twenty minutes and then leave due to sheer boredom. This is not me trying to flame the LSF or SA in any way, just me asking them to go and defend somewhere OTHER than New York for a change.
IMO, give each house an almost exclusive "Selling" commodity, and an almost exclusive "buying" commodity.
Eg. Bretonia sells Gold, buys Optronics.
Rheinland sells Diamonds, buys Gold perhaps?
Kusari buys Diamonds, sells Optronics.
At the same time, Liberty buys all these commodities for 2/3 of the price of the best selling point. Liberty sells Luxury Consumer Goods which can be sold at any of the outer Houses, for 2/3 of the profit that outer-house trading would yield.
This can be made a little more complex, but basicly re-instills an old system that was good but needed rebalancing (from Vanilla). Make it so that, if they want to gain 2/3 of the profits, a trader can choose to go back and forth between an outer-house and liberty, or...if they choose to make maximum profit, go in loops, Kusari>Tau>Bretonia>Omega>Rheinland>Sigma>Kusari, allowing traders to make profit while touring all of Sirius, providing piracy opportunities for all, and policing opportunities for all, whilst gently discouraging as much traffic through Liberty, in favour of the borderworlds.
Perhaps there could be both a clockwise and counter-clockwise version of the route.
I agree, revitalising the more tired and lonely houses should be a priority.

I'll let ya off the hook, Chopper.
But let me preface by saying that if the Niobium/Diamond run is the only one traders think can be profitable, then they're either damn stupid, or damn lazy.
Now, I could line out a five-stop route through the heart of Bretonia that makes a nice chunk of change; one which would even give smugglers a rush with a little variation.
Without mentioning the smuggling aspects or the exact route, I'll just clue ya this:
Deut,
VIPs
Prisoners
light arms
gold,
and back to deut.
But again, two of those items are now proscribed by Bretonia, even though they don't leave the bloody house.
PM me or tag along with the TAZ sometime. We're neither stupid, nor lazy.
Mal, if indeed you don't move said objects out of the house, then we actually support you trading it.
But, I do believe you intend to move Deut into Kusari, across the Tau border...and, that has problems attached to it.
Sides, might I mention, that, there is a thriving market for Synth weed, that the BPA wont even hinder (demands a mill tax, but never a dump, and it never escalates)
Weed sells for between 1800 and 2800 in Bretonia.
Optronics for 1400.
Boron for 1400.
Those are decent prices, people.

The balance is fast disappearing out of the window here. Its the 'in place' to be, because everyone else is there.
There are 90 odd other systems in the game, but because people perceive there to be 'no action' anywhere else
New York is it ...

Fine work on everything men! But before we get too settled down, I would like to announce that we will soon be holding our annual race, the Annual Cambridge Light Horse Classic in Dublin.
As a former member of the CLH, I would liketo extend an invitation to you to participate in the event. But in order for the event to be successful, I am going to need a bit of a crack-down in Dublin.
The Mollys and Corsairs are not going to ruin a tradition!
People, move out of Liberty. The BPA is hosting a race, and the Mollys are free to attempt to ruin it at will, just leave that Dreadnought at home, mates.
Everyone invited to the event, giveaways for everyone, but grand prizes for winners. More details to come.
EDIT:
Luxury Foods go really cheap in London. It's my prefered route, actually.

The second option I think.
There is one trade route to Bretonia where actually quite a few people are Cali(NY) - Leeds..
at any given time I see 2-4 traders on it.
Even when the LH pirates them in Magellan... but I have never seen an UOG pirate them in Leeds... sorry guys
Also the Cambridge-NB run is not so bad.. yet there is almost noone there.
--------
Kusari.. yes there are hordes of traders doing NB-NT.... yet there are no people in kusari. All the pirates simply pirate in S13... and inside Kusari KNF just watches the endless stream of traders go by.
--------
Anyway what about making an official trade route thread (tagged SPOILER).
Simply saying "go discover" usually means that 70% of the people end in NB-NT.. because they are lazy to go discovering. And at NB-NT there is even excitement along the way.
