Discussing the lore of CR

Myea, I've tried to make the same arguement in the past. Zoners... I can understand them building mobile freeports (weak carriers) like the Aquilion, but fullblown dreadnaughts?

- Hessians: While they have shipwrights, they don't have nearly the resources to manage their own cap fleet.
- IMG: While their lore states they do interstellar exploration, which warrants the need for a craft capable of it, I'm glad to see the Zephyr drop from our line.
- Outcasts/Corsairs: Where the hell did all their caps come from? Not to mention the resources to build and maintain em.
- Blood dragons: By lore stated to be very few in numbers, being elite fighterpilots, but they got a siege cruiser and a battleship?
- Zoners: See above. Zoner cap intended for battle is bleh. Conference, Aquilion and Corvo make sense.
- Order: Growing from a handfull of folk on one Osiris to a fullblown navy in <15 years?
- Gallia (all of em): You got those resources -where- exactly? The Rheinies landed in the resource-rich part of Sirius, not the Frenchies.
- Hellfire Legion: Y'know, if Igiss had a penny for every time someone stole a ship from the LN, we'd never need to do a fundraiser for the server again...

But, then again. Every pipsqueek faction thinks it's entitled to a full cap line and two snub fighter guns. Preferably with a signature fighter torpedo to boot. It's how the mentality is these days, and it's made me a little "meh" to the whole thing as a dev. Having this universe make sense would probably mean slicing and dicing through a LOT.

That's where Official Factions come in. Compare the official number of capital ships of any Official Faction with their indie counterpart. It doesn't take a math genius to see what I mean.
Which is also why Official Factions control the way their NPC faction is heading Lore/Diplomatic-Wise, and not hordes of indies.

The basic idea of the faction might have been an import, what it is now is far away from this. I honestly doubt that you would see an import behind it if you wouldnt know what it looked like in the past.

Now about the CR lore, I actually find Knjaz explanation pretty good. Your numbers are also not that correct Meow, we have less BS's then we did in .85 once we decided which ones will go. ( We currently have ONE BS more then we did in .85 because we didnt want to take already existing ships from our members, I think you know where that ONE BS more comes from:P)

You are WAY above your head when it comes to inRP resources and the resources displayed ingame... cuz srsly, you seem like you can take on LN, while inRP you should be struggling to fend off random rogue and hacker attacks at this point.

Also, EXPLAIN THIS:
You got thrown out of T23/T44, T29 is Kusari territory. Yet somehow, you bring a full armada through 2 heavily patrolled enemy systems. I am amazed how you can manage to keep getting to Alpha with your fleets when they have to pass T29, Cali base and gallic patrolls in T23, THEN break through an even HEAVIER guarded area (the cloud where the alpha jh is in T37) into an area so tightly defended that just sneaking in ONE Nyx would be an accomplishment.
Your OORP raids was ridiculous before, even while you still were base in T44/23 and were at your prime strenght, you all knew that CR was just a pebble against the Outcast forces. INRP you should never have made it alive to the northern half of T37.
Please give me an INRP way to get through that with 2 carriers, 6 cruisers, 2 gunboats and 2 fighters. Because you surely cant hide those ships for that long.

With the Gallics breaking through Omicron 80 , while the Outcasts were/are already having enough trouble holding back their Corsair brothers in Eta, the pebble force of the Colonial Republic gets trough their defenses in Tau-37. T-23 and T-29, even 37 are already much easier systems to go through, because we've spent there years. What you're saying is like not knowing your own back yard.

Also, I don't see anywhere said in T-37 that it's that heavily defended as you said it is. But lets Rpretend that it is, and read the above argument again.

I would simply say speed to be honest.
A fully equipped and backed up raid force can attack very quickly and do damage.
It works in real life as well, problem of being cut off is quite prominent though.
That problem isn't represented ingame but really ought to be.
The ships can't hide but they don't really need to.
Your point still stands though, such a raid should not occur due to the danger of being cut off on the way back.

In any case, CR is in a bit of a flux right now.
It's spent the past 3 or more years fighting Outcasts.
Suddenly it doesn't make sense to fight Outcasts.
What do?
Give it some time, it'll be sorted.

This is one I'm particularly interested in. The CR was meant to have lost roughly 25% of its military trying to hold off the GRN invasion so the last transports could escape. The population of the CR should be roughly around 1.4 million or so. Nothing that large but substiantial enough that random rogue or hacker attacks aren't a problem. A sustained or concentrated substantial attack by either party would be a tough one though.

The LN would of course wipe the floor with the CR, a force which I'd put just below the Hessians but above the Mollys/Rogues/BD etc. Much like said forces though, it's where they are that matters the most. The LN has said a good few times they wouldn't invade Coronado, it's a neutral zone much like the other borderworlds.
Groups like the Wilde, Rogues and Hackers should be interesting to deal with though. They aren't capable of throwing the CR/IMG out of Coronado individually but they could make life very very comfortable and if they teamed up? Oh dear.


CR is not a powerhouse.
CR is not a house, or a mini-house.
CR is a militaristic faction that is constantly fighting to form a home.
It is seen all around Sirius simply because it needs to take every chance it can to get one up on its enemies.
There is no justification for 7 brand new Battleships.

Zoners. Olol. Few thousand (just look at population of their bases in vanilla) people that were struggling for survival in omicrons in vanilla freelancer suddenly pop out behemoths like Jinkusu. They would struggle to build a decent combat fighter that's on par with Houses!

If you judge Zoners by Vanilla lore then you're right, but it isn't vanilla anymore, Zoners are rich, richer than most other groups because of the unique way in which their neutrality benefits them. The trade routes from lawful to unlawful bases and back again and the accumulated wisdom and knowledge to do with shipbuilding explains the existence of a wide range of Zoner ships. The Jinkusu is not exactly a full on combat battleship, it's always been seen as a mobile station, you could also argue the Jinkusu as an evacuation vessel ready to take Zoners away to safety from, let's say Freeport 10, should the OC and CR start going at each other hammer and tongs.
The only faction left who are really meant to be dirt poor are the Xenos and even they got buffed.
Capitalism rules, even in Sirius.

You know, about Lores, RP and having only normal players here, I have an idea:
1 make server password protected, change password 2ce a week
2 remowe all indies (from factions as Order, Militarys/Police, most of pirate factions)
3 make NORMAL factions instead (1-2 oficials per faction, 2-3 unoficials and dont make them hard to join)
4 Follow Lore and RP as close as possible
5 Have enough people to keep an eye on rule-breackers and other staff
And voallya! you will got NORMAL server)))

Nice list, KnJaz. Freelancer is full of these example, we normally all just roll with it. While some of us do in fact push for changes to acknowledge this. GMG ID used to originally allow the full line of caps. We as a faction made it our very first project to have them removed the moment our application for official status was approved. Join the band wagon guys :laugh:
