' Wrote:Elevators of the kind (there is a actual plan to build such on earth too in order to enable colonizing of the moon saving a lot of costs to transport viable resources - click)- I would really like to see them elevating a battleship.
Actually they are rests from vanilla where only freighters and fighters were elevated by the docking rings, mooring points are not existing really in vanilla and they are just game mechanic tool- enabling big ships to land on the planet since they could not be elevated it is tool but it is flawed if you look at it RPwise.
Yes the sensors are there to be jammed- there is not perfect technology at all. Any reasonable smugglers wont use this elevators for sure-they will just land (not dock) calm and away from any lawful forces.
Stations is other story- stations are smaller and there are only fixed (guarded or monitored) docking options, planets should be free game for all.
What is realistic and I am willing to have is to disable everything bigger then freighter to dock on any stationary battleship- it is not fun at all and I know that you have the plugin there- you cannot dock big vessels on Rogue and Molly stationary destroyers. Same for cruisers and battleships on smaller bases. Since it looks like only simple copy paste job and if the dev team needs help with this I am more then willing to do it for you after I am ready with the exams.
Other option will be to extend stationary battleships with extra base components and to make them look like bases so then docking should be free game.
This in General- quick dock must stay for snubs, but GBs and Cruisers and Transports and BS does not need to be able to use it, however they should be able to dock in reasonable time with so many bases and at least half of them bugged...

Part of the point is to create specific high-profit runs that only freighter-sized ships can access. Shorter travels times and higher profit margins designed for the discerning smuggler...

Yes, create those. Don't destroy routes already taken by smugglers.

Removing quick-dock will bring more realism and less advantages to traders fleeing from pirates. I think I can survive that I will now dock more then 0.5 secs with base

I've seen many people writing now, that removing quick-dock will make the game more realistic; but, is realism really what this game was/is aiming for ?

It's pretty much an arcade PvP-shooter w/o much intended realism.

Also, the quick-dock can always be an emergency cloak supported by the station. (since we got cloaks anyways)

How about we reverse it, eh? Quickdock for caps and other big ships, that can take ages to align themselves for docking, and slowdock for snubs, because they won't lose much time anyway?

Like, playability vs realism.

[/sarcasm. but not only that.]

Don't remove that...some ships are pain in the arse to dock with stations...

I voted yes, quick dock is more annoying than waiting a little more to actually dock (and if some bases are messed up, the dev team can hopefully fix it anyway).

Okay, I did some more digging. It looks like it's possible to maintain the quickdock on the mooring type docks, but NOT the fighter kind. This would favor transports and medium sized capital vessels. It's a choice (basically determined by the docking capture range of the mooring).

The only way to consistently fix the bugs with undocking is to make a hard seperation between fighter berth and mooring, so that's something that -will- happen. Wether or not we want to keep the transports/gunboats and heavier vessels kapoofing into the base is what we need to decide.

[Edit] Oh, and about planetary moorings: Those do exist in vanilla. In vanilla those transports transfer their cargo by offloading the containers to those heavy lifters you see buzzing around planets. Those then deliver the cargo planetside. They exist and are actively used in Vanilla (although not every planet has one there).

Freelancer =/= Reality

So implementing something realistic will just kill the fun, which harms gameplay.

I say no.
