' Wrote:Geckon, how do I access the cargo/storage? Is there a special hangar for it and it opens up like the commodity list? Can I just throw anything into it and then open it up like an inventory list?
You don't access it, storage simply exists.
There is commodity trader window.
Yes.
Alright, I'll just stop posting because clearly all anyone here can do is just quote the guide which I don't understand and I guess maybe building a base just isn't for me. I've got 2 billion credits after a week of playing and now I've run into a brick wall because this community is full of self-serving know-it-alls who don't want a growing community.
I will rescind my previous statement if I could get some actual help. Again I am SCARED that I am going to throw away my hard-earned money and some guy is just going to come by and blow it up. I have seen a single gunship take out TWO bases right before my eyes now and that has me worried out of my mind that it will happen to me. I DON'T WANT TO WASTE MY TIME AND MONEY. UNDERSTAND MY FEAR. UNDERSTAND I HAVE ISSUES WITH THE VERY SIMPLE MECHANICAL GUIDE WHICH DOESN'T EXPLAIN THINGS TO PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW TO FREELANCER.

Okay this is better. So there's a second commodity trader window that has all my cargo? So let's say I grab a ton of ore and a bunch of weapons and decide to stow it all in my base. I can do that then come back and pick it up and haul it off when I want? I also heard I can store ships at a base. How can I do that? And if I can store ships then can I build/sell others? I'd like to be able to offer specific ships at my base.

I am not sure why are you blaming community.
When I have read these guides I understood how bases work. Sure, there were few questions about not working stuff and trial and error on /shop menu. But you know. That is minor compared to what you -demand- to be written and answered.

Use teamwork to instantly build shield generator and get some fuel. Problem solved.
My own station stayed alive for 8 hours while I solo-supply it before somone annihilated it because it had no shields.

It is the same as on NPC station. Only that you can manage what <strike>goods</strike> items are bought, bought/sold or only sold.

You lost your base after eight hours? That's exactly the kind of talk that has me worried I'll be wasting money. I want a permanent base -- not something which goes up after eight hours. I am about to bring some 50-70 players over to this game and I want a base of operations for us to buy and outfit ships. Understand this. Also, modules slots have me confused. It says I need to build core upgrades to build modules, but then it says I need modules slots to build.. modules. Which is confusing. Help?

It got destroyed by someone. Duh.
There is 3 module slots at the beginning.
1.
2.
3.
You're generally better off to bring a bunch of people to supply the base and only -then- start building it. People shoot the things for fun. Or you didn't supply crew, food, oxy, water and repair commodities - if you don't do that it'll selfdestruct eventually.

Are you saying that to me?
Because I personally made sure it is well supplied 15k Basic Alloys and food/h20/02 for 20 hours, you can count on that.
But you know. When Zoner Battleship undocks where it should have not docked in the first place and hangs around in system where the station is...
There is no ideal build for a player base. You build it how you want and for what you want. Everything builds at the same speed. 200 units per 10 seconds. This is stated in both versions of the Guide.
We both gave a 1, 2, 3 to setting up a base. All that it lacks is telling you to remember to have another player with the crew and consumables nearby to dump on it.
Quote:How much cargo does the base now have for me to stuff it with things?
Read the Guide. It very clearly lists this information. Under Base Levels in both guides.
Quote:I get my base shield up and running then I start building cargo units?
Your choice. Bulk Storage Module, Core 2, a factory. Again, already in the guide.
Quote:What is the purpose of each module?
All explained in both versions of the guide.
Quote:I don't understand what a Docking Factory is. What do those do? etc.
Again. Explained in the guide. The only thing it doesn't explain is what the docking module does. There is another guide on the forums regarding the player built equipment. This is a guide for the player base feature.
The reason people keep quoting the guide to you is because most of your questions can be answered by reading the guide.

This is also a great use for the Barge.
40,000 cargo units on a spaceship. One of them holds half of what you need to build a Shield Module right off the mark!
