From: James "Muerte" Ryans
Subject: Joining the Search/Destroy Agency
Priority: Normal

Message reads: Greetings Agency, the name's James... James Ryans, my friends and enemies called me Muerte. Nickname I picked up off a dying Corsair, I hate Corsairs. I'd love to hunt them to the end of the earth. Outcasts are bad but these guys... bloody cowards, apparently I was worth the time for one of 'em to go undercover and join the Navy in an attempt to catch me off guard and surprise me one night. Didn't work, knocked him around bad enough the doctors had their hands full with him for a week. Well me? I was a Navy pilot, flew for Liberty. Flew bombers for Liberty, never anything else. I've always hated the bigger ships, and I was absolute trash in a fighter. They put me in a fighter for training, and I was in the bottom 25% of the class. I asked for a bomber on the next training run, and I aced the trainer. Heh, thats how it goes. Always loved that Supernova cannon. Didn't even bother with other guns, had the Navy yard-boys throw 3 Debilitators and a Paralyzer on my ship, told 'em not to worry, I just needed the shields down for a kill. I flew with them for five years, never made rank though. Rank in the navy was bull-- in my opinion, all about kissin' tail, never about flying. I flew well too, brought home plenty of escape pods for the brig in Texas. That's where I met some bounty hunters, I got a little interested but not serious, "Huntin' for cash" heh, I'd be good at it but it wasn't my thing--then.

Couple months back I had a run in with some mean outcast boys. Took down both my wingmen right quick, but I knocked their leader a good one, scooped him up, and kicked up the dust as they say. Got back to the Missouri and apparently he had five million on his head. Was a big target on the Navy's to-do list. I was dang pleased with myself, figured it was time for a bonus and a promotion. Instead I got a pat on the back. Pat on the back? Garbage. I complained and they threatened with discharge for insubordination. That's honest payback for ya eh? I was furious, done with the Navy. Time to make my own living, more then the feeble 100k a year for flying Navy. That bounty was fifty years worth, it's time to hunt bounties I say.

Before I left I stopped by the flyboys in the garage where my ship was. A beautiful Havoc bomber, love that ship to death. In the back I had brought home some weapons off his ship. I liked the one gun, they called it an "Inferno Cannon", looked right nice to me. I figure if I'm huntin' bounties I can leave the Cruise Disruptor behind. I had 'em mount it up for a pretty penny, and an offer to leave the rest of the gear with them. I didn't care, I'm gonna strike it rich. I left the ship quietly and headed towards Bretonia. Heard there's a big 'ol base out there for Bounty Hunters. I'll have to grab me something more fittin' ship-wise, but otherwise I'd say it's time to join a respectable group and make some cash. Well that's all there is to know, all I need to tell anyone anyways.

OOC:
I currently have a few chars, consolidated to one account. I am Lt. [LN]Zachary Ryans, and Psychopath-an insane man feeding off people's fear. Both fly bombers, I love 'em. I have a bank with a billion credits, but I don't do caps. I prefer the thrill of the bomber, much more skill and better RP then a huge ship. I use my extra money to help new guys, do some loans, set up a (charity) armory in Liberty to help people, and such and such. So yeah, I play for the RP, and I love chasing bounties. I can help other S/D financially if need be, and I'm pretty good about sticking to rules, and quick to make right if not. Just looking for a fun RP experience.
...Also, I know you generally start guys in HF's? I can if you want, though I truly am terrible in 'em. Only thing I'm good at is aiming a Supernova, and well if I may say I'm actually quite good at it. I know also the inferno... it might be iffy to your rules? I can create more RP behind it, or drop it if really need be, however I'd love to use one (it's really needed for those Corsair capital ships).

Thanks for your time!

Harvey's Office, Sheffield Station.

Mounting paperwork. Administration. Harvey's nightmare.

Three applications, complete with medical reports and background checks.

Including the Agency's first female applicant. Well, Harvey thought, having seen what Esther Carson was capable of, this was certainly not a profession in which one could risk being sexist.

He flicked through the summary of the background check.

Quote:Born Carolyn McArthur on planet Leeds. When she was old enough, she decided to go out and make enough money to move her parents and brother away from the Leeds system. A series of events caused her to become an independent trader, and she was successful for a while, running goods between Bretonia, Liberty and Rheinland. However, after her last recorded run to planet Denver, she seems to have been drugged in a bar and robbed. She didn't react well to the particular drugs they used due to a rare allergy, and as a consequence, lost her memory. She's now left with no income of any sort, a few creds for the shuttle to Bretonia, the desire to eradicate criminals and nowhere else to turn. Meanwhile, the police in both Liberty and Bretonia have classified her a "missing person".

The rest of her life story was attached on a data disc.

The next one was a disgruntled Navy pilot, eager for a fortune. Well, he wasn't the first and he wouldn't be the last military type to seek a reward equal to the risk.

Tha last one was old-school Guild, a Texan from a family of hunters. Seemed to think Texas was a planet rather than a system, but Harvey often made the same mistake.

Besides Texas was a state of mind.

He wired the armoury.

"Three new recruits admitted to the training class. S/D-James.Ryans, S/D-Carly.Denver, and S/D-Mark.Williams. We'll try them out in the Barracudas, Interceptors and Sea Serpents for now."

//PM sent. Welcome aboard.

Be advised that we are particularly interested at present in employing nationals of or persons familiar with Rheinland, its geography and its criminal activities.

Preference will be given to former members of the Rheinland police or military or any of the organised criminal groups known to operate in Rheinland.

Any person incarcerated in a Rheinland penitentiary will be granted a full amnesty upon admission to the Guild.

Please disclose all pertinent information when you apply. We do full background checks, so there is no point in hiding anything.

Sirs,

I would like to formally request a position in this ... evolution of the Bounty Hunters Guild. It is heartening to see that someone else has grown tired of the dissary that is the current Guild and seeks to rectify the situation; finally we can focus on eliminating criminals rather than dealing with beaurocratic mistakes. I can be ready to fly within the hour if need be, I am already the owner of a Manta VHF currently docked at Freeport 10.

But where are my manners, I've forgotten to mention who I am. I guess my excitement got the better of me; the opportunity this group represents to people like me is rather staggering. Anyway, I am Alexander Tegani, born and raised on Planet Manhatten. In my younger years I made a living trading, but after...I... I'm sorry, but my recent past is quite painful for me, and I would prefer to not discuss it. Suffice to say that seeing a loved one die just feet from you...to hear her beg for you to save her... but knowing that you can't...it..it kills something inside you. In fact, I guess what interested me most about your pitch was the promise of death, at this point in my life it would be welcome. To that end, I will gladly take whatever mission offered, regardless of the odds. Hell, a high probability of death is kinda a bonus for me.

...Anyway, I eagerly await your response to this message and look forward to potentially working with you in the future. Tegani out.

Harvey looked at the application. It was scratched on the back of an envelope. He read it. It didn't take long.

He turned to Richmond, his administrative assistant, who was sniffing a bottle of Tipp Ex thinner unaware he was being watched.

"Richmond. What the bloody hell is this? Have you been writing your damned poetry and leaving it lying around the place again?"

Richmond looked aghast at Harvey.

"But Mister Blackwater, I...."

Harvey signalled with his hand for him to shut up. He read the application again.

"Dear Lord. Another bloody Libertonian when what we need right now are Rheinlanders."

He turned to Richmond.

"Run a background check, Richmond. See if there's more to this Tegani chap than meets the eye."

Richmond tutted, closed the Tipp Ex thinner, and started typing on his computer.

Message reads:

Greetings,

Here is my Bounty hunter identification card.

Bounty Hunter ID card
On this card you will find more infos of me that have been updated recently.
To give you more details on me: I was once members of a Bounty Hunter Guild after I helped a friend in his travel. This guild was The Bounty hunter Legion. He did not work out as we had trouble to keep our Bounty Hunters in control and even our recruitment was a total blank. So... I retired myself for quite a while.
But now I'm out of cash and very bored. I even sold my Orca to continue my pleasures and hobbies in the galaxy.

Before sending any transmission to your recruitment channel... My "Manta" and my "AP-12400" went on a check at the hangar of Manhattan. Well.... it seemed that my ships are still able to fly. I needed to check my own skills. So I launched and see how I could handle it after this little retirement. Well I'm still capable to use my vessels. All systems were checked and works properly. Also I have travelled in Sirius...so I'm familiarised with most of the systems your guild is operating on.
I heard that your guild is well organized and that you can keep the Bounty Hunters up to date with all the possible jobs in Sirius. That's exactly what I need a guild that could guide me to be a TRUE Hunter and maybe a better pilot. And also to be honest, I need to work to get some revenue on my credits card.
And to be more honest. I'm quite young and I lost everything that I cared on the past. I have no attachment...I don't fear to die, my future is nothing without having bounties to do and my mind is impatient to be focused on the Strontium Dogs works...

Anyway... I'm not going to be sensitive. My goals are clear. I need guidance so I need the best Bounty Hunter Guild in the galaxy.
I'll await your answer and I'll be ready to follow your orders.

Mike Fire.

What would your membership bring to our faction? One more Hunter, I'm not that good at dogfights but I think I know how to communicate in RP and I really like to work in a team.
What is your RP story? Click on the link "Bounty Hunter ID card" at the beginning of the message. Be aware this story is made of 20286 character. I even added more writing due to the holes there was in some part of of the story.

Richmond was asleep at his desk when Harvey walked in.

"Avenal, wake up!"

Richmond wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth.

"Sorry, Mister Blackwater, but I've been up all night checking the networks for this Tegani fellow. There is no record of his ever existing."

Harvey frowned.

"Well, it was most likely a crude attempt to infiltrate us. Not to worry. This other application passed. Process his paperwork and get on to the Armoury. Call-sign Mike Fire. He's probationary for now."

Sir,

I am Stast, thats all you need to know about my name. I was born to Zoner parents on Freeport 7 and moved to Freeport 9 many years before it was destroyed. My parents now live elsewhere, it means nothing to you that they are still alive, but I will not share their whereabouts.

I work currently as an independent bounty hunter based in Omega 49, Planet Gran Canaria and have from there over two hundred hours of flight time all over Sirius, flying my Manta the Harbinger. Especially so in the outer Sigma and Omicron systems around Rheinland.

In the past I have been affiliated with various faction including Corsair and Order allied factions. However, I am sick of their filth, their corruption and their lies. The Order are more involved with the nomads than they let on and their use of alien technology has changed them in unnatural ways. As I once was, I am no longer. I live to destroy that which I was once part off, the Order, the Corsairs, all of them. The house police and navy's are inadequate, bureaucracy often conflicts with efficiency of the job. They cannot imagine the scum of the edge-worlds. But I can, and I wish to align with those who believe this also.

This is my reason to join the Strontium Dogs. I bring to you my knowledge of Sirius charts, and my expertise as a fighter and gunboat pilot and my passion to rid Sirius its criminal entity... By whatever means necessary.

Awaiting reply...

I will RP according to faction policy, alignment and goals

As stated, i fly a Manta, armed completely with BH weaponry, only am ill equipped in other areas. Scanner, armour etc. All i need is money for a name change certificate and equipment. To start again completely would be a waste, but if necessary i am willing.

I would like to be known as S/D Harbinger. Currently my character name is "Stast"

I have completed Freelancer SP and have experience in the last 3 versions of discovery, over 200 hours of gameplay flying all classes of craft.

Currently have no other characters on Freelancer online //

Starting Video, please wait:

A man of approximately six feet sits in a simple chair in a simpler room. Brown hair, grey eye, and a distinctive scar running down the left side of his face, crossing under the plain black patch over the left eye socket. He wears a battered leather spacer's jacket, and in the background, a tune known as 'Shipping up to Boston' booms softly. A battered sidearm rides low on his right hip, and a cigarillo smokes in his left hand, between yellowed fingers.

As he speaks, a voice made gravely by years of smoking and drinking hard liquor invokes images of dingy barrooms and brawls too numerous to count.

"My name is Jon Kirk. I had heard, from a friend of an associate, that the Stronium Dogs were looking for skilled pilots, and since I have been forced out of early retirement, here I am. I'm thirty eight years old, and I've been flying fighters, bombers, and one or two gunboats since I was fourteen. I figured I might as well run through the whole story, so get yourself a drink, god knows I need one."

As you settle back into the chair, the man takes another drag of his cigarillo, and sips from a glass of reddish liquid, apparently under the camera's field of view. With an exhalation of smoke, he continues his tale.

"I first began flying as an escort for a small Rheinland shipping firm. I had an old Startracker class fighter, and I winged a few pirates, nothing serious, until the day when the convoy got hit by a Hessian raiding party. Bombers went through the transports like a hot knife through butter, and the escorts got carved up completely by a Hessain cruiser. At the time, it was the biggest ship I'd ever seen.

So, after the missle tore off my engines and vented the cockpit, I'd been left for dead. Although I didn't realize it, there was just enough power left to fire the guns, just once. As I lay there, waiting to die, I saw a ship move into my targeting reticule. Although apparently suffering from blood loss, lack of oxygen, and extreme hypothermia, I still managed to squeeze the trigger. The bust splashed off the shields, but it got his attention, all right. Just before I passed out, I remember seeing a funny logo on the side of the freighter: London Drugs Inc"

When I came to, I thought I'd been captured. There were criminal types all around me, but there was something different about this lot. They didn't look like they were planning on slitting my throat, one of them even came over to the gurney and gave me a smoke. There was no malice in their eyes, and they seemed to think of me as more of a victim than an adversary. Then, a man came over, and talked with me. His name was 'Kingpin', and he led the raggedy bunch I was ensconced with. He said hed see what had happened to me, and knew it was more the fault of the people I worked for and the ship I was flying than anything else. He offered me a job, and my first taste of the grey side of life."

He paused, and lit another cigarillo. Downing his drink, he walked to a small table set beside the chair, and poured another out of an ornate, dark bottle. He begins to pace, scorning the chair, and as the camera pans to follow him, he begins the next chapter of his tale.

"So, Kingpin gave me a job, and I flew as part of the 'Acquisitions and Enforcement' Squadron, for a good long time. It was then that I first began to hear news of my brother. He'd always been a bit more of a rebel, and being a couple of years older than me, had left when I was eight. He had been on the run for 'Political Crimes' back in Rheinland, and although I've never been one for that kind of thing, he was, and still is, although I've not spoken to him in a few months. Ty is, in fact, the reason I'm talking to you now, but that'll come later

Kingpin, and London Drugs Inc, was a good gig. Steady pay, good ships, and the best bar this side of Roppongi. Flew with LD Inc for a good long time, and never regretted a second of it. Sure, we dabbled a little in piracy, blackmail, and extortion, but that was no problem to us. Things were simpler then, the sector was a smaller place. We might be shooting at the mollies one day, over a load of cardi someone had decided was worth the risk, and be drinking with them to celebrate another BMM cargo stolen the next.

LD Inc kept me happy, and I would have stayed there except for one thing: the Nomad Wars. I got a message from an old buddy telling me the Rheinland military was all infested, the police were no better, and the people needed help. I talked to Jake Koolmo, the man in charge of the little gang of shippers I flew to protect, and he didn't just give to leave to go, he came with me. About a dozen of us went back to Hamburg, and I landed and talked to me Dad.

Now, not only was I there, but so was my brother, Tyler. Him and a few rough-looking chaps who called themselves 'Revolutionaries'. I wasn't sure at the time how much Ty was into it, and how much was for fun, but he's good and committed now, by all accounts. So, me and Ty and a few of the other blokes who'd brought men went in to Kirkton Hall and talked to Dad and the rest of the old fellers. The skinny was, there was a moon out in the Wild spaces on the edge of the map that had a sizeable contingent of Kirks on it, running some kind of research or mining thing, it's been a few years. Anyways, Dad wanted anyone who could to go and try and bring the boys back. Ty said he would lead it, and since he had a small cruiser and about a dozen pilots, no-one else wanted to argue with him. Even then, those 'Coalition' lads had a bit of a reputation to them, and weren't scared of capping someone because they looked at them the wrong way.

All in all, the Kirkton Volunteers had about two dozen fighters, a couple of freighter/gunboats on loan from kingpin, Ty's Cruiser, (called the M'zav'koh, no idea why) and about two or three hundred infantrymen, a bunch of them Kingpin's boys, and a bunch more just farmers from the Ville, wanting to go up north and play hero. I had a bad feeling about it from the beginning, but I usually do about harebrained schemes.

So, north we go. Back then, the System we ended up in was just called 'Unknown', although I'm sure it's got a real name now. We arrived at the planet, and spotted the outpost immediately. We also spotted the pair of Rheinland cruisers in orbit, with support ships. We could tell as soon as we got in scanner range they were all infested to hell, from the blue glow coming outa the engines to the fact that there were 'Sharks' swarming about like bacteria in a Mollie's socks. We went in full bore, Ty figured that because they were still firing at the planet, there must've still been a chance to save someone. Well, as soon as we hit them, one of the rheinland ships just plain exploded, it still had it's shields up, so something the jellies were doing to it wasn't appreciated by the ship's systems. Good old Rheinlander engineering, anyways..."

Jon, pacing apparently complete, returned to his seat, and lit yet another cigarillo. It has been suggested that a certain type of person can live off nicotine, and Jon appears to be straight out of that mold.

"Most of the fighters bought it, keeping the jellies off the transports, and I was one of them. Thruster, Cruise engines, and every weapon gone, I had no other option than to follow the transports down. Now, until then, I didn't have much experience of fighting on the ground, other than bar fights, and the occasional 'Enforcement' job with Kingpin and Koolmo. So, I crash next to Koolmo's heap, and out boil Kingpin's boys. Next to us was a score or so of the Kirks, beside them a transport full of some of Ty's boys, and behind them was a load more Kirkmen, nearly two hundred of them, in some kind of massive, gunless transport called a 'Whale'. So, we all scramble to the ground, and as we're sorting ourselves out, Dad steps out of the big one.

Dad wasn't supposed to be there, but that wasn't really an issue at that moment. I'll not bother you with the entire story, but suffice to say that while about three hundred of us made it to the plant, eighteen left, along with three Kirks from the station there. Dad didn't make it, although he made quite the hero out of himself in the end, and Koolmo as well. Koolmo said, and probably still says, that I was there real hero of that, but I was just doing my job, and I did. When Ty and his little relief force of mercs and other guns for hire showed up, all I wanted to do was get back into space.

We all, stuck in Nomad space with no signs of the war ending, were just about to find a hole to hide in when some blokes known as 'The Order' showed up. I signed on with them for the duration, and a little after. You know, of course, how the war played out, and by 805, I had left the Order again, and was on my way back to Kirkton, hopefully to live out the rest of my time in something like safety, when we got hit by pirates. Seriously, pirates, nailing a ship full of mercs, criminals, and their ships? That was silly, in the extreme. Koolmo was skipper, and as soon as he got wind of the ambush, he launched every ship he had, some of them armed only with laser rifles held out the shattered cockpits, over the remains of the last pilot.

Suffice to say, we won. We won so bluntly that Koolmo and some of the boys went straight out of retirement, and wandered back over to Kingpin, and the LD Inc. I think he's working the legitimate side now, but god knows what he'll do. He was old before the Nomad Wars, although I suspect he's still kicking. I, personally, signed on with a few mercs, and fought for anyone who would hire us. It was easy and lucrative, but hardly satisfying work. The money was good, but we didn't do anything. Sitting beside a liberty guardship pulling over transports and searching them is tedious, at best.

I did that for four years, hating every second, and saving up everything I could. Got out back in '09, and settled down for the first time since I first got into that cockpit, all those years ago. Got a farm, got a wife, and lived slow. It took some time to get used to, but that's how it always is, and I loved it. I hung up my guns, put my ship in storage, and slowed right down. Everything was peachy."

Kirk gives a small smile at the memory, but then his face turns hard, grim, and he slams back the remainder of his drink.

"Eight weeks ago, the LWB dropped a shell onto my farm. They were trying for the SynthFoods plant a few kilometres down the road, but if those damn criminals can't even make a smart bomb hit a target, they deserve what they get. I was in town, updating the payments on my old fighter, when the bomb hit. I flew back, but there's nothing left. I think, in retrospect, that it never could have lasted, but I was glad while it did. I went up into orbit, and never looked back yet. Currently, I'm sitting on Sheffield, with the keys to a Manta in hand. All my savings went into that farm, and it never made enough to get me ahead."

Kirk stands and moves closed to the screen, lighting another smoke as he does so.

"I know a few boys here still, and I'll be alright until I get word back. I dislike this Manta though, if you're going to make a ship this heavy, make it a bomber. The old Crow was a fine ship, for it's day. Used to sell them here, come to think of it... Anyways, you know where I'm to. Give me a call, and I'll be there.

Kirk out."

OOC:
Are you willing to comply with the server rules and S/D expectations?

Yeep

Are you willing to RP according to S/D policy, alignment and goals?

Yep

What would your membership bring to S/D?

Charname currently is Jon.Kirk, would change to S/D-Jon.Kirk on acceptance

Well, my membership would bring an expecienced fighter, bomber, and capital ship pilot, I have a special affinity with light fighters (As anyone who'se seen my scimmy can attest to), and I've got a lot of RP experience, in both the online and pen and paper genres. Been playing FL for over two years now, mostly in disco.

Unfortunatly, I also work a lot, and will be on workup and overseas next year, so I will be unavaliable for long periods at a time. You might as well know now.

I have characters in the SCRA, BAF, MR, IND, and TAZ. I obviously lead the SCRA, but I enjoy some time off, and I've been meaning to revive this character since I got back.

Hope to work with you soon.

The Doghouse, New London

The video feed transmission from Baden-Baden was grainy. The Director was on a veranda, a blue sea washing gently againt the black rocks behind him. He was sipping an ice tea and reading a file.

At length, he spoke.

"Quite a find, Harvey. Two fresh sources on the Order and a wealth of nav-map intelligence."

Harvey nodded.

"I agree. And this Kirk fellow is exactly what we need. Good knowledge of Rheinland, quite a bit of experience. We have to run a background check on this Stast guy. The Police Authority won't process the amnesty certificate until we get a more detailed background check completed and an actual name."

The Director laughed.

"Bretonian bureaucracy. You can't beat it."

Harvey gave a wry grin.

"Their ships look fine but it'll be a few weeks getting them checked thoroughly."

The Director sipped his drink.

"Well, that's to be expected, Harv'. Still, I don't see any reason why we can't have them operational immediately. Send them to Bader at Sheffield. Starr can get working on the ships. Bader will probably need them what with an entire squad being hospitalised after that shoot-out in Magellan."

Harvey reached for the letter on his desk.

"Eh, yes. I was meaning to talk to you about that. The scars are healing, but I received a letter of complaint from the Infirmary on Leeds. Certain agents have been , and I quote, involved in inappopriate interactions with female members of the medical staff, a cleaner and a robotic enema unit."

The Director laughed.

"You know where to file it, Harv'."

The screen went blank.

Harvey rolled up the letter into a ball, tossed it in the air and headed it into his wastepaper basket.

//PMs sent.
