Acting is role-playing, character development happens on the forums to back the character up and creative writing is what keeps us interested in-game and on the forums. Balance is key and is what is missing.
Once again my friends. We are forgetting this happens every year. particularly when the holidays come along, bored little 12 year old children download the mod they read about in their PC magazine log on and want to trade, make loads of cash and blow **** up. Once the holidays are done with, the role-play content and quality of the server will become a common thing again. And 100 mill says that next year another so called Discovery "veteran" that joins at the beginning of next year, will post the same thing at the end of next year, and the cycle will begin again.
The first post mentioned something about respect for the player, the players role play and the players skills in a Player versus player fight. This is a public acknowledgment of respect for their hard work into winning the battle, and their role-play in general. I have absolutely no problem with this at all, its this I hate:
Winner: //GF Looser: //OMG I ran out of missles if i had 1 more missle i wud hve pwnd u LOL
And no matter how much we try, not matter how many times we post sanction reports or tell others not to do it. Its still going to happen. All we have to do is learn to ignore the idiots that ruin it for the real players.

' Wrote:That's the problem Baltar. Until you show or give a very clear indication (speak and stop) to that guy who just CDed you that you are not just going to pull a fast one on him, he needs to assume that you might run.
A silent trader who just sits there might bolt or might be just impatiently for the CDer to initiate the RP. But the CDer just does not know.
That's why, when flying a transport, I personally type something in regard that we can take this easy buddy. I'm not going anywhere. The CDer has so much more stuff to do than the guy who just got stopped. Check the ID, cargo, armament, contend with hostiles etc.
That's why people use those /setmsg. Even as a trader.
Hmm ... well actually ... I'm usually the pirate that gets CD spammed by a lawful. Typical scenario is me doing all the talking (maybe 10 or 15 min worth) before this guy says a word. I usually get a CD up the tailpipe before I get words. Then when I'm sitting still and waiting for the guy to say something I start seeing flashes from his guns. This of course is just after he shouts "Target spotted ... engaging." I keep trying to say something to get this guy to say more ... and I get the guns. THEN when I try to jump to cruise and keep from loosing what's left of my hull I get CD'd more. So I stop jumping to cruise ... I start thrustering away while being shot at ... and still more CD's. About 20 min into this ... whatever you wanna call it ... but don't call it role play ... the guy tells me to leave Liberty. Duh ... coulda said that before the drama. This is the crap that really annoys me.
Oh ... and I'm usually being CD'd to death without having done anything. Just because I have a Pirate ID doesn't mean I'm actively pirating. My pirate is presently in New York enjoying his vacation from Sigma 13. Just being there I expect to get heads to turn and question my presence there. But imagine this ... my ID actually says I can trade with it. And guess what ... that's what I'm doing in New York ... yeah ... a pirate trading. And what could a pirate possibly be trading? Why medicine, food, water and the sort for the poor. Yes ... Rogues and such aren't that rich ya know. So I ferry medicine and food and water and other necessary supplies to various unlawful bases ... and they're all legal goods too. Question here ... would you should "Pirate ... kill him" when I'm role playing in this capacity? Or would you let me go about my business and watch me for any trouble I may cause? Which is role play and which is PVP?

I see your point there. I was typically thinking of trader - pirate interaction.
Every encounter can annoy alot if the other guy is just mute...
That idea of charging 1000 every // is brilliant! Head over to the commands thread and make a suggestion.
