I'm just thinking about the horrors that would happen with 12+ Titans around Crete.

- Trader bringing food to Crete.
- Indy Corsair: HLAT TRDAER 6 MIL OR DIE
- Trader rolls his eyes and keeps going.
- Corsair: ENAGANGIN
- Corsair initiates /attack and opens fire. Trader can't dock or get away from the swarms of Titans, let alone the beefed-up stationary defenses in 4.85.

And then since Trader bringing food into Crete is inviolate as far as EVERYONE at Crete is concerned, trader posts it and Indy Corsair becomes EXTREMELY hated. (Hey, I read the council declarations, too - and I've run food there before myself.)

Earlier Mule said it could be done so that members of your own faction couldn't be targeted. Seeing as Guard ships technically aren't of the same faction, couldn't the /attack command still be used on them. That would mean capital ships could blast fighters and vice versa, right?

I still wish there was a command we could link to specific ID's which would cause an NPC patrol to enter formation with your ship. That way a carrier can run around with npc fighters =P

The abilty to buy NPC wingmen, thats what we need!

NOOO, major server lag and you're on the wrong thread. But back to the /attack command, I really like the idea of being able to control the privilege by giving out an item. You might be able to do this with some commands as well:

/attackPR , let's someone use the attack command, forever (maybe gives item?)

/attack-PR , takes away the attack command ability

/attackgive , let's someone use the /attackPR and /attack-PR commands (this privledge is admin only).

This should make it so only leaders and their most trusted lieutenants can restrict/give attack command privilege. You could also make it so only admins can give out the right to who can and cannot control who uses the attack command.

I was one of the people on the dev chat that disagreed with it the most. But I am a human being and therefore have the option of changing my mind.

I like to be open to new ideas. The alternative that I suggested would mean people would have to shoot their bases to disable docking for everyone.

One way or another, people are afraid that it will be abused. They are afraid it would be them that won't be able to dock because of someone.

But after I let it rest for some time and looked at it again, I must say ...

If someone abuses this, it's -exactly- the same as if he attacked out of roleplay. And if the malicious player has the intent to do it, administrator intervention is neccessary in both cases.

Another note: if someone abuses this, if someone abuses anything, I don't know what about you, but - I don't want such people playing on the server.

Playing here is a privilege, not a right. If someone abuses this privilege, he should have it revoked so he / she doesn't limit the freedom of other people.

I say YES. Yes, let's try this with maximum restrictions possible. Guard IDs, implementing both /attack and /neutral command and perhaps even the time limit.

Let's -try- if it works. One day - the public beta will be released. After the mod is considered relatively bugless and stable, it would be time to try and test this.

I'd like to give it a try.

EDIT:

Regarding the amount of work for server administrators:

If we do not introduce any such measure, you might be looking at a lot of reports of "Speeddock to avoid RP" type...

but if the same amount of people keep speeddocking to avoid RP - you're looking at a pile of reports anyway, it seems. And I don't like when you have to put up with piles of unneccessary paperwork.

That's why I want to test it ... I'd like to find out if there's more people speeddocking to avoid RP or people who attack for revenge, out of pure spite and out of roleplay. Yes, the latter is probably a worse offence. But it's better to get rid of the serious offenders and not having to bother with minor rulebreaking, eh?

I only report people if they completely fail at understanding what they're doing wrong. Or don't care. Docking to avoid RP is not as bad as attacking out of roleplay, yes. Docking to avoid RP cannot directly hurt other players.

But then comes the question - if you don't like to put up with any kind of trouble at all, allow people to dock to avoid RP rather than abusing the command?

I think this idea deserves at least a trial. Let's see if it works. If it seems to be abused, then we remove it, simple as that.

maybe limit the plugin to work only for chars having Guard ID/tag (or similar)?

Stamp of approval, and I won't read all the thing. But we should make a trial for it. to see how it handles.

Also, the plugin should be restricted to lvl 30 and above, etc. So you won't have any lolwutter newb abusing it.

PS: It is possible to make plugin unapplicable on allies. Like a LN cannot ask patrols to engage a LPI, etc

EDIT: Have considered a few issues with my suggestion. Nevermind that one, but I do like the idea.

Also, seconding kingvaillant's first suggestion. The second one doesn't make nearly as much sense, though, if you'd use both - who's going to have a guard ID below level 30?

Wewt! You finally listened:P

Who knows maybe it won't be abused and the over all number of offences/sanctions would be reduced. It becomes almost impossible to 'speeddock to avoid RP', 'fight with should-be-hostile NPCs neutral', or 'docking on hostile bases'. In a way it gives a small amount of policing power over to the players, letting them police ingame through RP means by way of an RP tool.

Edited the first post with the new changes (guard ID and whatnot)
