I know that stuff. that was one of the reasons I wanted to buy it. Spore looks FUN!
I know theres been hype about it, but i was REALLY looking forward to playing this game. it wouldve kept me entertained for years, with me sucking every last bit of enjoyment out of it.
But after 3 installations (OS install, hardware change, or plain reinstall) it stops working? No thanks.
3 installs would get used up for me in about 3 months. That would be faster for some other people.
I dont want to have to wait until EA say "yes" to play on a game that stopped working 2 weeks ago, that I bought with my hard earned money.
I'd rather stuff a porcupine and skunk up my nose, than be subjected to Game Police Big Brother Corporation that tells me I can't reinstall my OS to make my computer work faster, or that I can't install a new graphics card, or two. Or test my friends HD to see if its working. Or install a new DVD drive.
I am not a pirate and will not be treated like one. I've bought over $3,000 in games, a large part of that EA games. I bought almost the entire C&C games, individually. Sim cities, Maxis games, some EA sports..
And yet I am being treated like a criminal, and the DRM "copy protection" hasnt stopped pirates from doing what they do. DRM only hurts honest people. It does not stop piracy. In fact it actually encourages it. This is the first time I have considered going to piracy, but after some struggle, like i said on skype, i just wont buy it. Nor will I buy it and download a "patch" to remove the DRM. If I buy it EA will think that DRM is a good idea.
No, I will stick to my principles and play other games.
As you can tell, im extremely pissed off.

I had a free day from both jobs yesterday & played it up to the begining of the civilization stage, & I can tell ya, it's not great, but it doesn't suck.
I was basically expecting to play 'The Sims' from amoeba to warp engines, but what I ended up with so far, is another EA game that makes me wish I waited a year or 2 first for a few expansion packs to come out before I shelled out 50 bones.
I like the epic scope the game is shooting for, & the left-handed cigarette smoker in me enjoyed zoning out & saying " hehehe, cool" to my monitor every 2-10 minutes when something interesting happened, but, I don't have the time or energy to be an archetect, & the luster of the game is already starting to fade.
Spore is now, what The Sims was when it first came out...an ok game with alot of potential for people who like to pretend to be god. If you can wait a year or so to play it, do exactly that...the expansions are what makes the base games better anyway.
If you don't have time for all the customization (being an architect), why are you playing God? You can customize your creature, your houses, your towers, your vehicles, you can terraform, you can expand into a galactic empire.
Probably wasn't the best choice of a game if you just wanna zip right through and say "Screw customization".
O.o
But ehh, can somebody enlighten me as to what this DRM stuff is with the 3 installation business? Are people saying that they like wiping their harddrive and they're disappointed that after three times it doesn't work? Although I agree that it should keep working (EA commies... Bleeding us dry) How could you re-vamp your computer that many times so quickly?

from what i understand it's a spyware that EA put on the game. when you load the game the first time it loads this spyware that hardwires into your computer and runs non stop in the back ground for no other reason than to limit your installations of the game to 3 times. the spyware runs in the background and eat up your computers resources even if you uninstall the game.
i think you have the reload your operating system in order to get rid of the spyware. it's just something to keep people from pirating it i think. ends up that honest people will get the shaft while the hackers just work around the spyware.
i would still like to play the game but my compter resources are precious and don't want to slow my computer down at all
EDIT: after the third installation if you want to load it again you have to call EA and get a code from them in order to load it again
Quote: because once I go back to working only one job, I will have the time you silly thing!
Touche...

Hmm... Lovely. Isn't that illegal? The spyware-age that is... But that is indeed annoying. My computer can only just run on minimum settings, who knows how much RAM the thing takes? Not much, in theory, but every KB is precious.
... At least the graphics wont be a problem. The Creature Creator ran just fine visually.:P
I tried game out, passed all stages few times. My personal thoughts of it are:
1: It is too simple. Simplicity and difficulty of game is nonexistant.
2: Rather big amount of starting ages is made up of either luck or being very persistant. Collecting all creature parts all over again is annoying. Also it might influence your general idea of creature.
3. Unlocking abilities over ages that is influenced by your behavior is a nice idea.
4. Amount of freedom is enormus, and its nice refreshment.
5. Allmost 80% of premade creatures are rather childish, annoying and compleately not probable to happen.
6. It seems game mechanics regarding spine have difficult time with upright creatures.
All taken in account, its nice game, made up from several minigames, and it innovative and refreshing novelty in game world. Replayability is somewhat low and will probably annoy usual gamer after 4-5 tries.
Downside is rather silly license of agreement, and i do not support game as such because of it.
The more I read about it, the more I hear that the space stage is the real meat & potatos of the game, so all in all, the simplicity of all the other stages is tolerable to me because I know the game will improve with the x-packs.
As far as the DRM issue, I'll burn that bridge if I get to it, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt & assume that EA will eventually do the right thing & fix it w/ a patch.
Just my personal outlook, but it doesn't matter what the agreement says...I didn't 'rent' the game from them...I bought it, therefore I own it & the company just needs realize they need to catch up with me.
Even if they made me click an agreement that states that the sky is purple, hitting the 'next' button won't accually make it true.
