' Wrote:You know, about Lores, RP and having only normal players here, I have an idea:
1 make server password protected, change password 2ce a week
2 remowe all indies (from factions as Order, Militarys/Police, most of pirate factions)
3 make NORMAL factions instead (1-2 oficials per faction, 2-3 unoficials and dont make them hard to join)
4 Follow Lore and RP as close as possible
5 Have enough people to keep an eye on rule-breackers and other staff
And voallya! you will got NORMAL server)))
Just an opinion but still....
in general - almost every RP we have is imported - some a bit more - some a bit less. - but all in all... we cannot help but roleplay "roles".
those roles are derived from archetypes. - just as you expect pre-defined roles in "fantasy"-settings.
so you have the wizard, the warrior, the thief. - you do not go forth and re-invent them (much).
many vanilla factions are imports from real life history or based on stereotypes. - many playerfactions are imports. - so you have the militaries that appear to be just like todays militaries - even if the battlefields are in space, spanning over several planets and are based on a totally different idea of warfare. - if we compared "military" today with "military" like 1 thousand years ago.... there d be huge differences. - yet - we don t complain... it is an import, cause that enables us to "understand" it.
then we have the pirates. - clearly - they are not even modern day pirates ( like somalian pirates ) - they are much more the stereotypical pirates of the carribean. - imports - and some players even focus very much on making such imports clear. - we accept it.
in defense of the CR. - they started as the BSG - a faction "inspired" by the battlestar. - but even then ( like 4.82 ) they tried to make themselves genuine to disco - tried much harder than many other factions to accomodate to freelancer discovery.
then they became the CR - adjusted their lore, their history so it would fit in.
today - i do not consider them "imports" at all anymore.
@AD:
i know you dislike zoner caps - but there really is a good deal of lore about the ships. - more than many other factions applied to their warships. - i just guess you know the entire lore of the ships when you comment on them. - if you find the lore of the ships insufficient to explain their existence ... that lore can be written in more detail.
Nah the Zoner lore is fine. If logic was gonna be used seriously in Disco then I suggest just simply moving the date of the Zoner movement further back in history to correspond more with birth rates a little more realistic then litters of 12 kids in each home every month. As Unseelie showed a group of 30k humans would take 360 yrs to reach a population of 1 billion. But it was only brought up to Mao to show that there are many examples and we'd all be spending the next two years re writing everything to fix unrealistic details in Disco.

Thing is, that's directed growth in optimal conditions. As in, you've got some government using cultural manipulation to encourage large families, the infrastructure to support massive populations, safety, security, resources. The Zoners don't actually have any of them, so projected growth rates for planets don't really apply.
Well i don't know, to be honest, CR always had the place near phantoms or disco zoners etc. in my head. I mean, things that don't fit freelancer universe at all.

Jammi, you are making it look worse :P
With the higher technology let's give em a bit of a boost to say things are optimal.
Increasingly sophisticated technology generally leads to smaller families. Boom. Check, checkmate. :P
In any case the Zoners don't have optimal conditions by any stretch of the imagination. Plus growth rates like that don't apply when the population group is smeared across the entire galaxy instead of condensed together.
After a while, the population of a station would hit a glass ceiling and stagnate due to crossing blood lines and other such factors.
You mean "neutral" parties that have 100 Juggernauts just because...they like Juggernauts?

aka, you can make up some more reasons of why people that despise war, and have a name like they do to express their neutrality, have 100 Juggernauts. Why dont you make something up for the Junkers as well then, I mean they only collect scrap and have bases all around Sirius, perhaps you could use your imagination and make them up a gunboat.

Do you ever read what you typed after you typed it? No really, do you?
Might as well not discuss lore unless you want to change how the server works. Trusting people to maintain their place is silly, because it's not trust that regulates behaviour, but possibilities and economics.
Is it possible for me to write that X faction is as big/powerful/can take on a house? (GC/HF/Zoners/Corsairs/Outcasts/Hessians/CR/Phantoms) Yes it is, so that's what people will see happen, whether it makes sense or not. This can even be reflected in ingame power, since that's based solely on how many people you have within your faction, since the current balance system requires everything to be similar.
However, because everyone writes the lore of their faction to be bigger and more powerful in an effort to be special... this actually results in everybody being the same in the end. Ironic, isn't it?
But, there's no point to complain about X faction being able to take on militaries or houses unless you're actually willing to change how this game rewards and punishes player actions. That requires a lot of sacrifices which I doubt most of you who are complaining are willing to make.
