1. Forget who you are and in what reality you live in for the process.
2. Imagine how your character born in Sirius. Were his parents rich? Did he get educated? Did he need to fight for survival as a kid? Did he party a lot? Did he try synthweed? How did he learn to fly a spaceship? What made him do so? Could he fly well even on synthweed? What did he experience in the cold of space? How did he develop the mindset he has these days? Who were his guides? Did he ever fall in love with an underaged Junker girl that his parents hated? Did he got arrested for possession of synthweed? What did he do for a living?
3. If you think you asked and answered enough questions about your char... you are wrong. But it will do. Now if you had trouble answering any of the above, it might mean that you don't know enough of the universe your character will live in. Read a bit around that forum, the wiki, or ingame infocards to fill the gaps.
4. Think with the head of your character. If he thinks similar to you it helps, but don't confuse him with yourself.
