Side note - it's not just Rod doing that. There are SEVERAL official factions partaking in this. And it's been one hell of an interesting chat. (As in an average of 2,000+ skype comments per day.) And no, we're not going to share what we've come up with so far.

Well if you're involving Official Gallic factions. Let me know. The +LE+ wouldn't mind helping out.

As far as I can tell, the reason Gallia has been less than popular is because:

6. Their tech is incompatible with the rest of Sirius (they don't share).

5. They are inconveniently located at the farthest upper corner of the map where few players bother to go.

4. Their NPCs are uber buff and a continual pain in the rear.

3. France just isn't as intriguing as Germany, Japan, or Britain.

2. France has never been known for it's military prowess outside of the Napoleonic era, yet they are single handedly bulldozing the entirety of Sirius for... revenge? Seems like they have self-esteem issues.

1. There was little to no desire to bring in another house, regardless of who that house would have been. Players wanted the existing house lore to expand and improve based on player interaction. That didn't happen.

Fix those problems, and you fix Gallia.

That's an impossibility ...

Attempting to place a steel rod into jell-o as a stiffener simply leaves you with some slimy steel.

1337 - 1453 - my, what a perfect example of modern combat - not. That, and let's face it - you fight over anything for a century, ennui is going to set in.
1066 ... yeah, seriously? You have to go back almost 1,000 years to find something to brag about? And that's about it, actually ...
1914-1918 - not really what you consider an intelligently fought war, when it comes down to it. On either side. And a stalemate until you suddenly get 2.5 million new soldiers in 1918 isn't much to be proud of, when you get down to it.

French soldiers individually tend to be pretty good. It's French Military leadership that ... tends to be (or is) a net minus in any equation.

Yeah, honestly, if the stuff we have that we're discussing (and it seems like the Skype chat continues to grow on a daily basis with new members) - doesn't or isn't allowed to pan out, even though we're up to ... six or seven official factions, from the original three, now working together on our RP - then I'm not sure what should happen.

Last I recall the connections between systems were governed by the static peg board pattern underlaying the Freelancer system map. I could be wrong and there's been a way around it since the last time I toyed around making systems but to my knowledge such long distance connections wouldn't be possible. Also, in RP, imagine what would happen to Sirius if Gallia rolled in to seize the Sigmas without having to fight its way through a long distance filled with enemies.

What chat are you talking about? Are any of the dev team privy to this chat?

' Wrote:so, Gallia is the elephant in the room - everyone knows that most events on a large scale are supposed to be oriented towards the war, but the player base is lacking to carry it through on the server. This creates an awkward problem in the discrepancies between script and actual gameplay situation, severely inhibiting the integrity of the RP of most factions in the game.

So I wanted to open this thread to have a running debate on what can be done to remedy the situation. Any ideas, really - they don't happen to be fully thought through, but realistic/viable though in regards to tying Gallia in with the rest of Discovery (ie. no "delete Gallia" because it's just not going to happen). The Gallia-issue should be adressed and fixed, as it is a shame to let so much work, care, attention to detail and ample opportunity for players to have fun go to waste.

So I'll go first with an idea: Gallia seems to be locked in the sense that they are pitted against more or less everyone on the server: Their political RP more or less solely set on domitation/powerplay of everyone and everything and their PVP set on being a legitimate target for ganking by any and all. OP ships still lose when outnumbered and outmatched, plus having an ID that might be harder to RP than other ID's (requires knowledge of and interest in French culture, language and history) doesn't improve things either.

What if Gallia had a Sirius ally to provide both opportunity for more nuanced political RP and a widened player base fighting for/with Gallia? I was thinking about the Colonials - there's been talk of a purge and other OORP actions, so a radical retcon in Colonial lore doesn't seem like a gross violation by comparison, and changing Colonial allegiances yet again won't upset the established relationships between the major political powers in Sirius as a whole too much, except for hopefully making the "Gallic threat" less of an imaginary scenario played out by NPC patrols in Leeds. This could eventually serve as a means for Colonial players to get a peek at Gallic RP and thus make it easier for these players to create Gallic OP characters that they enjoy to RP, and thus promoting integration between Gallia and the rest of the Disco world at a player level.

Comments, yes/no's or preferably other/better ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Change spawn from Erie to some gallian planet.
