Well yeah, logically it would be okay. But the transports are already pretty much buffed. I just dont like the positive discrimination towards the caps nowadays.

Cruisers are not very nibble and for that reason many might still prefer smaller ships for piracy. Making transports resistant to small ships would only encourage cruiser piracy even more.
Boosted speed for transports should have the opposite and desired effect.
An organised convoy that made no mistakes (scout/escort, armored battle transports) could actually win against a solo pirate. It took > 4 players with about 3 billion in ship value to beat the standard Gb without losing a ship if everything went well.
Now... beat a cruiser. Haha. Fun.
The slim percentage of getting the "good win condition" has been removed. That is frustrating.
I hope this change is temporary, to test it. Question is: how you're going to buff transports? My tip: Few more turrets, even gunboat ones, won't help. I advise 400 cruise speed and CM on every transport. And higher thrust speed.
Btw. pirates, you have what you wanted. Now hurry, buy all Vidars!

Of course it's not the case, and now their main defense (which is surviving long enough to dock) has been negated by the ability to use cruisers.
I like the way this simplifies rules, but it has to be recognised that transports were balanced as they currently are with the assumption that they didn't need to fight back because of the rule exception. Now they do, as the exception may no longer exist after this trial period.
Most cruisers, to survive, fly towards them and slam cruise when your right behind, it will buy you about 10 seconds headstart before they can follow. You will survive long enough to reach a base, only 2-3 cruisers can actually turn fast enough/has 360 CD to stop you.
