Made a quick vid on how an easy pirating would look like...

Now to make one how a complicated one would look like.
Note that in this vid, all the stuff around the pirate is red, and that the Jump Gate, off in the distance, is at least one trade lane away from the point that the pirate is pirating. This pirate has avoided my gripes, although it appeared to be getting shot at. The Trader did not request the pirate clear off the NPCs though, so there was no problem with #3. I suspect if it was in a more hostile zone, it might. This would result in the trader appearing to struggle. Did the pirate see the trader getting shot at? Did the pirate watch the trader's shields and ensure they didn't drop to the NPC fire? That is where situational awareness matters. If each pass of the NPC dropped the trader's shields by 1/10th, it would be a sign of a problem that needed to be taken care of, and the trader might rabbit because this would become an example of a "Die or Die" situation. In all, this is a prime example of pirating done right. Some people might have a problem with "fine", but still good. I find it interesting that he types everything out. However, the trader is already "caught" at that point, so it isn't any problem.

I was under the impression a trial by forum was where an individual is discussed. This is a discussion about three particular acts that some pirates do. Nobody has even mentioned an individual outside of themselves. If I mentioned any of the pirates that caused me to become concerned enough by the lack of their attention to post this, this would indeed become a trial by forum. The question is, who do you think is on trial on this Topic? It can't be a trial without someone to be judged.

Lord Imapwnu's easy guide to Pirating

Step 1: Get a Juggernaught(Starflier2)

Step 2: Shoot things until you can get a Pirate ID

Step 3: Pirate anything you feel like - Battleships...Manhattan...Admins...Other Pirates..etc.

You know, I tried to follow this code when I pirate, I saw a whale near BerlinJH, and I wanted him to halt (Yes he was a zoner.) to see his cargo, just for the heck of it, I jumped after him, and I find him being killed by 5 das wilde, this was mentioned earlier on, help the poor guy! He was in a whale, of course I wanted to help him, he flew off while I took the fire. Then a military guy shows up and blows me up, while I was fighting the Das Wilde.

Which would you side with, a human pirate, or infested beings who almost destroyed Sirius? Even if the RP demanded he was to stop me, he didn't say, leave this area, or you are entering hostile space, he just shot me down, while the RP may allow this (which is why this isn't a sanction) it would be less arsehollish (And perfectly reasonable) just to say the above.

That experience has turned me off of helping traders, I will never be kind again, so really, if you want pirates to not be scum, have a little talk with the military first.

You know what, Ima be a jerk here. Deal with it. Really, deal with it. If I was to be nice to traders, I'd be OoRP, because I don't care if you're an old woman trying to feed her children, I want some money or whatever crap you're carrying. If you have such a problem with pirates like this, tough tamales.

If there are NPCs shooting at you, well, that sucks. Maybe you should type the zeroes faster or hit the jettison button faster? If you have a problem, then maybe you should remember what exactly pirating is. Tough tamales.

Are there pirate NPCs by Jump Gates? Yes. Do the NPCs make it harder? You better believe it. If I feel like sitting outside a gate where my NPCs are present, I darn right will. I'll give you my heart RPing, no matter where I am, and I think that everyone on this server is obligated to do the same. If you don't want to, then prepare to eat whatever I happen to be mounting, because I couldn't care less about your comfortableness as a character. Pay the man if you get stuck. Tough tamales.

Does this mean pirates should be jerks? No. If I kill an armored transport that is level 38 and obviously didn't have the money and I gave him no alternatives, I'll give him money to make up for his run. I don't want to crush his hopes and make him feel like this is a server full of jerks. Being a real life jerk and a piratey jerk are two different things. Really, now....

As I say to people ingame and in RP, if I wanted your input into the situation as I pirate, I'd have asked you for it. Now, quiet and pay the man.

Also, I did sift through all 9 pages of this thread. Please don't tell me to go back and read it, because it hasn't changed anything about the way I feel, nor will it ever...

What I was thinking of posting, but refrained to. Well said, Saconboda.

Traders make way more profit than pirates, they don't have to abide by the 4 hour rule like everyone else, and they have a much easier platform for RP. Yet they still whine more than everyone else.

Eh?

As if pirates don't have traders or smugglers backing them up.

Piracy is really an RP role. If they want money, they should get themselves a transport and work like everyone else in my opinion.

A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.

Orin wasn't talking about how funding is low on pirates, but the fact that pirates could easily gripe about more and that traders have a lot more that could go wrong. I refrained from saying that, but it's true, really....

No ... a trial by forum is where you single out an individual or group. Take a look at the many threads where a group of lawfuls were discussed ... with regard to their role play. The vast majority have been locked by admins. A precedence has been set with regard to these type of threads.

The point here is that by you bringing up those three incidents you are placing all "Pirates" on trial here. If there is a problem with a particular pirate ... address the issue with that individual in PM or send a violation report. But don't put all pirates on trial because you had a few bad encounters.

These anti-pirate threads only stir up animosity in the community. Nobody likes it ... and it generally gets shut down very quickly ... when someone starts an anti-lawful thread.

Yes, it's an RP server, but if someone does not wanna RP with you, go find someone else to RP with!

Get away from the mentality of "I'm a pirate, everyone passing this point will pay me or die." and go towards "I'm gonna go look for a decent RP experience, screw the silent people."

Anyways, if you wanna insist on blowing up every trader you come across, I hope I don't meet you...

That being said, I believe that this thread has run its course. Everyone get it out of your system? Good.
