' Wrote:Explain to me how it "supports" role play.

I understand making your change quicker is the goal ... to get to the rep you want ... but I'd rather see it tied to the ID you mount on your ship ... NOT something you can change yourself.

Oh I agree, downing NPC's does not support roleplay, although the command reduces the amount of time one has to do these less RP activities.

As for it being tied to the ID I think this is too limiting and has more potential for abuse. For instance you could farm friendly NPC's for credits with no affect on your IFF. As for the limiting bit, a think being able to have a custom IFF allows for more variety in RP. What if you are a Corsair pretending not to be a Corsair. Without the autorepfix you can do this (if you believe ID's are only for metagaming, which I do, and lets not argue that on this thread please, there's another thread for that), drop the IFF and get a civ ship and equipment, done, you no longer appear to be a corsair. The other reason I'm not a big fan of the idea is it would be somewhat of a pain to implement and debug for all the ID's and I think it would cause a buttload of complaining. But I am glad the idea came up. As I have said elsewhere I would support it if the ID based repfix was optional (using an FLhook command), so if you wanted to play a less vanilla character in terms of IFF you could.

Well let me tell you the good this command brought for me.

At the end of 4.84, I had to guard rep 9 of my characters, because the CR leadership decided we'd have all guard tags in 4.85.

The way I did it was, ( and that's the way 90% of people use ), for all those 9 characters, was to do mindless missions at Falkland, and then get an Outcast bribe on the Freeport in Tau 37.
So the length of it all was doing the missions + a trip back and forth from Falkland to FP and back.
Plus not mentioning the darn fact that I was neutral with all Outcasts, and had to do some more mindless killing of OC NPCs in order to get hostile with them on all 9 chars.

The difference this command has done, is that I still do the missions( 90% of the time required ), but I don't have to get the oorp bribe anymore, cause I can simply use the /droprep to drop the regular IMG rep and get the guard one flashing.

So that's eliminated 10% of the setting up time, which is not much, but made it a hell of a lot less out of role play.

@ tazuras: There's already a rule that will take care of NPC farmers. OORP rule covers that pretty well ... you get in a fight with someone and he starts farming his friends to get bats/bots and such ... he's violating role play and acting like a PVP whore. Just take a few snaps of him farming his own and file the report.

EDIT: Added the @ tazuras to clarify who I was responding to. Sorry Swift.

What's that got to do with what I said?
In case you misunderstood, re-read my post and you'll notice I said I had to kill Outcast NPCs.

@ Swift: For transitioning from 4.84 to 4.85? That's a temporary thing where the new rules require the Guard ID on caps. So ... after you've ported your ships to the new rules ... do you really need it anymore? Quicker way to transition is to request the admins adjust your rep.

By the way ... why do you have so many caps anyway?

First ... with the ID linked to the rep system ... you won't need to kill Outcasts to adjust your rep.

Second ... there are some who get into a fight that WILL kill their own NPC's to stay in a fight longer by harvesting their bats/bots.

Third ... I was actually responding to tazuras's post. You just happened to post your comment while I was responding to his.

It's not caps, I have only one cap, and that one is a gunboat.

It's guard tag for all =CR= ships you see, even fighters and tradeships(I disagreed with this, but no biggie. )

Edit: Yes apologies, I didn't notice you were responding to Taz's post.

I think Swift's point is that, in order to get an IMG Guard tag without the droprep, one takes an Outcast bribe. IMG infocard lists Outcasts and BMM as hostile, so you now have an OoRP repsheet.

Yes there is a rule, however it is easier to avoid the rule then the rep penalty, just dont do it where people can see you, easy. But yeah, if someone did this they probably wouldnt care much about a proper IFF either. And I was talking about farming them for the commods they drop, like say GB captians, cruiser captains, etc.
