Firstly, the CM is absolutely useless. Once you get disrupted, you can't put enough distance between your engine and the CM for the CD to be pulled outside the range, at least in my experience.

Secondly, I still think simply raising the shield level is a prefferable alternative to stronger guns. I'm especially opposed to gunboat guns. Solaris or basics may work, but you might as well stick with regular transport turrets for something so bland.

For the Core.

Gunboat turrets may well hurt. But without the powerplant to back them up they will have only a limited role.

With a powerplant (according to Ktayn's figures) only 10-25% of a gunboat - exactly how much uberness will be added?

Not much.

You know what we don't have? Class 6 turrets.

Make Transport Turrets class 6. Add Liner turrets at class 7.

Maybe then the absurdly inflated price of Liners will be justified...

This is all plain crazy, balanced by bomber and gunboat whores? both of those ships got utterly nerfed for 485 and the pirate transport is now practically a gunboat, the liner isnt supposed to be a combat ship, its a survival ship and it does it very well with light cruiser botts and armour, if its swarmed it'll struggle.

But newsflash, same thing will happen to a cruiser, two bombers chased a destroyer for the length of a trade lane and it lost all its botts and died just as it reached the base.

Poor mans cruisers? no, poor mans gunboats? yep

Also, Liners are way superior to other transports in defence, a lux liner is much stronger than a shire in armour and botts (30k, 200b).

and finally Hornviper fighter guns suck? off topic sure, but its totally untrue, the weapon type is not weak to the common shield like every other 5,88 and 8,33, so you can use no debs and get away with it, the wraith (main user of said guns) has a Templar core (which is a very heavy VHF) and can fire 5 vipers easily, 4 is a joke. On top of this, they're very hard to dodge and 340 dmg is quite high, there are weaker damage 5,88 that use the same/more energy AND are photon/laser and thus you need to use a deb to make up for shield damage loss, and then you lose overall DPS.

Enterprise Luxury Liner- $202,000,000
Rogue Gunboat- $17,000,000

Poor man's gunboat, indeed.

Edit: Just for the sake of throwing "poor man's cruiser" out the window as well
Liberty Siege Cruiser- $147,000,000
SCRA Typhoon (Most expensive cruiser)- $207,000,000

Also, I'd like to recognize that the Liner is a very very very large ship to be considered a gunboat.

Ok, ok, I meant mainly non liners being the poor mans gunboat, which they are, gunboats cost some 50mil (they all should do, pretty sure) and some gunboat like transports like the Pirate Transport, the Raba, and some even cheaper transports such as the Percheon being somewhat of a manwithafriend's gunboat.

Liners, without taking into account price also around a gunboats strength, actually more than a gunboats strength which is more than enough, and with their cargo hold's being so high I dont see these rich mans gunboatransport's being buffed at all without super cargo nerfs, speed nerfs, zoi nerfs and all kinds of crazy stuff to justifiy making them cheap cruisers.

Honestly dont want to see more liners about at all, they mess with the atsmosphere just like Zoner Whales, they're RP ships not trade ships.

I've no problem with them getting stronger, but make sure that the only thing they carry is human cargo. No more liners with cardi/gold/niob/diamonds etc etc etc etc, except in <strike>much</strike> sorry, MUCH smaller quantities.

I, for one, am sick of seeing them hauling every commodity under the sun, OTHER than the one they are supposedly designed to carry.

I totally agree. You ship should only be used for what it is designed for.

Liners could use better weapons, the things aren't powerful enough as they are.
