Not really, no. Being a long-standing member, however, does let the admins know what kind of person you are and whether or not you'd be acceptable for the position.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

I'd never become a moderator simply because I was sanctioned a couple of times. Gotta be a goody-goody to be trusted. Or a brown noser. I don't like being either.
