Honestly, that's a good idea. If there is going to be a new liscensing system, instead of everyone going through and submitting requests for a liscense (if that's the method chosen) for their caps.. Whipe them out so people aren't flying around in them when there hasn't been authorization.
A wipe would probrably serve the community good IMO. It may even DRASTICALLY increase roleplay.

Yea, I'll be first in line to the exit door then, thank you very much for such "nice" suggestion.
Drastic measures, overreaction, it will not serve good in my opinion. You don't fix a bug in a game engine that took ten years to make by wiping out entire code and starting it all over again. Or better off you don't erase entire content only because of the graphical glitch, even if it's annoying and pops up often.
I don't understand your reference to 10 years? A little over the top... most of these characters were built in little over a week if not less.
The reason I think that a wipe could be good for the community is simple. If there are going to be new restrictions on capital ships that require licensing, and especially admin approved licensing.. Think of our admin staff going through each and EVERY player file trying to enforce that. We have well over a thousand player files, if not several thousands.
Yes, I get that a player wipe would hurt the community because everyone would have to start over again, but seriously ask yourself the following questions:
How many capital ships are there that really *shouldn't* be there and are going to get OK'd just because they were there already?
How much money is floating around in-game that was earned by EXPLOITING the Tau-31 'route'?
How many ships and capital ships were purchased with said dirty money?
Yes, I get it.. "don't hurt everyone for the actions of a few" and honestly, I'm one of the people who never used the damn tau-31 exploit to make funds. infact, I barely on found out where Tau-31 is the other day (I just don't go to that part of sirius very much, if at all.) but I am ready and willing to sacrifice all of my characters who I spent combined weeks on getting set up properly to fit the RP simply because of the dirty money and capital ship problem.
Sorry about getting slightly off topic but hoods sarcastic suggestion made me think.
Tree, thats a sad statement, so if we had to have a wipe for other, and possibly more technical reasons, as
we did before, you would just leave then ?
Doesn't show too much dedication to a mod and server where you are trying to add stuff, if you just upped
and took your toys elsewhere mate ... It could happen at any time, for a thousand different reasons.
I'd like to think there a few more who would not be quite so selfish in their attitude ...

Havent read through the whole thread so this is going of the first post by AC.
I just want to add that 90% of the factions on the server regulate there cap ships very well, theres only a few like RoS and the old UOG that do not..
TBH have 2 and only 1 is ever used, 101st i havnt seen them in anything bigger than a destroyer but they mainly fly Sabers so i guess what im trying to say is don't judge all factions from a few who think its good to have massive ships and can roll up to any system and claim its theres .. .. what awesome power they behold lol ...
Hood, I think I've said that in rush (we're all just humans heh). You know when someone suggesting to cure a patient by cutting out limbs when you can cure a disease with humane ways, it's just wrong. And that's exactly what is being suggested right now, a quicky way which will cripple the community. So what good will do it? Will it do more good or bad? I don't think that this "patient" is in such grave state. Yes, a problem is there, and it needs attention, but not a butcher's cleaver, to assume that this is the only right way is to exaggerate the situation to universal proportions. Because wipe isn't really a solution, I've already said that earlier that one of the keys lies within game mechanics, specifically easy loss of battleship which makes it "easy come, easy go" type of ship which it shouldn't be.
Tree, I know this is all hypothetical, but when we had the last wipe, and god forbid we have another, it did not
cripple this community. Far from it actually, it made those dedicated to it a much stronger group.
Infact we had a great time roleplaying the re-building of the whole of this sector of Sirius. Those that look at
it as a pain, and would up and bugger off elsewhere, are those we probably don't need here anyway I suspect.

Eh....I guess I am in favour of a player wipe, if factions get say around a billion credits each. Enough for one battleship, and the rest to fund their members. Or, to give all their members trains (or whatever trader that is the best for cost/efficiency) in the next version, forgoeing the purchase of their beloved for a few weeks.
to be honest, its ok to have a large amount of caps, as long as you dont use them often, or together. TBH probably has an insane amount of gunboats, but most of the time our pilots fly fighters or bombers (I hope). This is because we have always encouraged the use of a fighter. By doing so, those pilots become reasonably good in a fighter, and feel less inclined to steer to their gunboat. Of course, when a battleship or three comes along, what choice do you have?
And Tree, I have been through a few player wipes, which took out my Xeno tagged Outcast battleship (you know, when I first joined, dont kill me), and my (probably) Liberty tagged Kusari battleship which I attacked Rheinland with. I am still here. If anyone leaves because of a player wipe, I would think that they shouldn't be here. For one, I want dedicated members of the community. If people are willing to leave in a huff because of a wipe, then I know they aren't dedicated enough.
Thats my opinion, in a pretty blunt way. If you disagree with it, fair enough. Bring out the Flammenwerfer Panzer!!
@Fellow Hoodlum: May be, may be you're right. I don't know now. It's just that it seems to be a totally wrong reason to do a wipe. In the end without changes to the system it will start all over again and what then? I don't know... I really really don't know.
Well, I've made my suggestion in a development section, my two cents, I hope people will come up with some implementations to the idea which can be done in game. Sure it's not a cure to all problems, but it should fix one of the results of the capwhoring: reckless, excessive and unreasonable usage of caps, which is one of the problems that make up the capwhoring as we know it. Perhaps it will not be enough, I quite understand this is a complex problem with many underlying topics, but if it is to be fixed then it needs a complex and thorough attention, and I don't see wipe fitting into this.
Alright, I was a bit overreacting when I made my statement earlier but still I honestly believe that a wipe is neither cure nor part of it to the disease. And my dedication is not about hitting a wall with my head to make it bleed.
I would like to mention that when I suggested the wipe after hoods comment it was only in support of the licensing (depending on the method Igiss chooses to use for it) as there are probrably several hundred cap ships in the playerfiles to "manage"
I do not think we should just do a wipe, 'just to do it.' by any means.
Honestly the best idea I have for the capital ship management is to delete the cap ship characters of those who abuse them. 1 warning, 5 days to correct the problem or it's deleted, no questions asked.
