Pirates shutting down tradelane in the middle of house space is what's silly. Capital systems should be very secure, with less security as you go further out, and the indy systems being very dangerous. That means keep hostiles out of the capital systems, and keep lawfuls out of the independent systems. Both are possible with some minor changes. As it stands right now we have piracy in capital systems and police in independent systems with player fear/apathy/inertia/whatever restricting how far they go. That works too.

It does not work at all Ursus. What you described is Galla- brutal weapon platforms along the lines combined with brutal NPCs making pirates to QQ and not to play there.
The result is empty systems with casual powertraders because when there are no pirates there are also no lawfuls to hunt them or other hostile pirate groups to challenge them.
Cutting pirates from Lawfuls is also fail because the lack of interaction would lead to lack of players.
So it is fail concept.
Police should not do the Military work and the Military should not do the Police work, in order this to happen ID changes and more dedicated police ships( SHF and proper police Assault Transport, small and fast police Destroyers as well ) for each police factions should be added.

My one question about this is: Why does it always have to fall into a "Server rules" type perspective?

If there is a system like for example, Magellan, which is 'independent', you are likely to see the Liberty Navy, the Bretonian Armed Forces or even the BPA in that system, enforcing laws/establishing secure areas on their 'side' of the system.

It may be an independent system, but it is sandwiched between two regional powers (Houses), that would mean, that like in contested zones in the real world, you are likely to see a government, or various governments, exerting their will and power within that area.

It does make sense, national powers do things like this, humans do things like this.

To elaborate, like I said in my original post, I don't think that House -Police- forces should be enforcing laws in systems that are contested, or outside House space. I do however think that House military forces doing such things is perfectly okay, I mean, it's believable and it makes sense.

Now that's a face I'd love to see within the same ZOI enjoyed by the house military. Which is all I really have to say on the matter.

Oh. One caveat, screaming NO in the direction of police for being where some reckon they aint is as time honored as demanding they only fly light fighters, run in the face of... Well anything, really, and generally conduct themselves in such a fashion that firmly places their role in step with that of the losing team.

Something comes up, deal with it. If that means taking a step back in the here and now and penning a letter to the governing body in the thereafter to see some justice come along then so be it. Polls and first wringing is for chumps and people who threaten to beat up teenagers over the internet.

Well I'm not going to persuade either Kusari nor Rheinland from trying to take a shot at GMG. Rheinland has once in the past tried and failed, if they are willing for another go, we'll play along.... as well as with Kusari. It'll be a PvP fest

I agree with the Navy being in the Independent systems that there houses are trying to claim or fighting over with another house. As for the police they should be restricted to the core worlds. I suggest changing the House police ID's to reflect restriction to core worlds. I think this would works best because it gives the Police force there area of control and also allows the military to have there area as well. I also have a Police character in an official faction and believe this would work much better.

P.S. Have to say it would be interesting if the U.S were to ask the various state police officers to help with the war in Afghan. Just saying.

While I agree with the rest of the post this quote is from...it sort of doesn't fit, since the police organizations in FL are all National level.

And on that note, there are American and Canadian Federal agents, operating in Afghanistan.

(The RCMP, the DEA and the FBI all have people in Afghanistan, doing various different things from administrative stuff to field work.)

The PS was meant as a joke and I am well aware of who's in Afghan. Thats why I refered to State police not Federal.

... if you're chasing a smuggler or pirate, the chase doesn't end when said smuggler jumps into Magellan/Cortez. Often even by gate (which a cop IRPly could have locked anyway). So enforcing the law is fine if the enforcement starts in a core world.

Wide awake in a world that sleeps, enduring thoughts, enduring scenes. The knowledge of what is yet to come.

Smuggler could have a hack to open it up. Hackers are a plague, I tell you!
