My theories as to the Canadian systems:

Canada, the USA and Britain all have virtually the same culture and language. I feel it's a little silly to discuss whether someone is more "British" or "American." At the time of the American evolution, it was heavily influenced on both sides, from birth to independence and the eventual purchase of Louisiana territories.

Did I step on anyone's nationalistic toes?

Logically, the systems should all go to the Bretonian side with exception of Quebec going to Gallia. However, I think we should make the systems more like the Independent systems. Sparse resources and difficult terrain, perhaps with a larger population than the Independent systems that identifies itself with some sort of regional self-aware, but perhaps not openly nationalistic. (Less than Dublin, but more than Cortez) Then, time permitting, the systems start making legislation on their own and eventually and peaceably separate from both houses. (reflecting the actual evolution of the country, kudos to that idea).

A question, however concerns me. At this time more and more of the world is becoming more politically aware on their entire continent, rather than just their country. Would the Canadians move more to recognize themselves as North Americans or Britons? And remember, just because it's an economic agreement, doesn't mean we should automatically dismiss it. The EU was at first simply more of an economic agreement between neighboring countries on the same continent. Just because Canada has a British and French past doesn't mean it wouldn't have a North American future.

Ultimately, it's up to Igiss to decide. I'm just interested in the ideas he has. Also, the systems prolly can't be moved. There isn't enough space on the Sirius map for that, have you seen that thing lately? It's getting crowded.

"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."

' Wrote:Ancient Athens was not a true democracy as criminals, the insane, women, children and slaves were not allowed to vote. There never really has been a true democracy simply because a true, total democracy cannot really function above the level of a country village. If everyone had a complete and total say in every single little thing, nothing would ever get done. Therefore, most democracies that we think of are, at best, representative democracies.

What you are speaking of is direct democracy. It's completely possible to have a pure-democratic representative democracy, where no constitution exists besides the first created laws (it gets more complex with issues of proportional representation but, take out the monarchy and NZ could be a pure democracy).

Again, why does no one apply the North America logic to Mexico? I don't hear anyone saying that there should be a Greater Mexico or a Chihuahua system, despite the fact Mexico actually plays a larger role in America's economy than Canada.

We would see ourselves as Canadians, Lucend. We as a people see ourselves, as ourselves. Not belonging to one or the other, as such is expressed by our disdain for the forth coming North American union.

While we as a continent may closely resemble one another times Canada is distinctly different than the states, whether by our political disposition or even our stances on national action and development of out educational systems. We in no way all simply alike.

Britain, as well as most any other country of the United Kingdom would say the same, they resemble North Americans the least in a great many ways. I apologise if I come off as somewhat harsh but I feel very strongly on the subject.

And I try not to come on too strongly on these things. Especially since North American / European relations aren't my major. If I have, I apologize.

Concerning what the Canadian systems are doing in Disco, the Northern Fleet is probably a pretty good suggestion. Basically the Canadians hitched a ride on Liberty, just like the Irish did on Bretonia.

Dieter is right, the United States would have a pickle of a time trying to operate without its Canadian imports. Softwood anyone?

Small correction; that was a storyline for a Liberty Army character, which is a different branch of the Liberty Military altogether.

I just don't see it. There's no logical reason for Canada to pick the nation which it had a war with and has an intense rivalry with over the nation it was descended from and has historically been in commonwealth with for centuries.

I am a canadian... I don't want to be known as part of Liberty or Bretonia....I would rather be classified as Independant with our own RCMP police force.

If we became Bretonian, I would have to Sell my 2 LABC ships...therefore I'd much rather remain independant!!
