Sure. From my point of view, you do roleplay with friendly and neutral people, however I've seen lack of it when it comes to hostile ID players. Yeah, IDs, not IFFs. I've been flying with a pirate ID'd ship, and a freelancer IFF. The encounter was more likely like "ffs pierat, kill it". Understable when the pirate is disrupting a lane, or pirating, but not when the said "Freelancer" is just passing around. I suggest something like "Hey Freelancer, what are you doing here?". (The character wouldn't be on the hostile list, ofc), or forcing him to show his/ her intentions.
It's a "mistake" that I've seen commited by most of people, but trying to work on it a bit would be really nice. In short, trying to avoid "Red is dead" policy.

IF the IFF is Freelancer and the ID is pirate, It's not a case of Red is Dead. Freelancers show up as neutral.
We act upon scans of ships and their ID's. However I understand about the RP. I'll be sure to pass that message along. It hardly seems reason enough alone to oppose our official faction request though?
Cannon has said this in the past. If you have a Pirate ID, you act like a pirate and other people can treat you like a pirate. Regardless of if you are acting like a pirate at the moment or not.
Nothing wrong with the KSP scanning you and then killing you if you bear a Pirate ID. You are a threat to them and the people they protect.

Welp, IDs aren't supposed to be InRP items, that would be close of metagaming.
I just wanted to add that point to the below points from other people, ones that I agree with in some cases, and others not at all.
And, well, an official faction that uses IDs as metagaming items is not ready to be official, I believe.

Whether or not IDs are InRP or OORP is a strange area. Some people consider them, like, your papers. Some consider them out of the roleplay experience.
It varies from person to person, and admin ruling has been...strange in regards to this sort of thing. I'd quote admin green, but I'd be unsure where to start looking.
Some quotes I really like "We don't devote enough scientific research to finding a cure for jerks."

Can we have a quote of an Admin in green letters for this? I am really curious now. If you don`t have the quote, i think we should start a new topic about this one.

We should wait for the Admins. The important thing is what they believe.

While I have no comments on the current KSP's behaviour at the moment, I'll throw in my 2 cents about IDs.
The ID itself is not an item which exists within the roleplay environment. It as purely game-mechanical object designed to assist players on a non-roleplay level, to provide assistance as to how they should treat another player's character with their own character. (This is in addition to the IFF, which should be a primary/initial form of identification, but not necessarily the only one.)
Due to the limitations of Freelancer's game engine, the ID is a simple tool which can be used to provide information about a character to another character without having the other character explain exactly who they are. For example, when a Police ID'd ship approaches a Pirate ID'd ship, the Police ship is able to identify the other ship as being flown by a pirate. To justify this sudden possession of information, which has been provided by a meta mechanic, but is not meta information itself*, one might say that the Police ship identified the pirate on a database of known criminals.
*The only in-character data that can be gleaned from the ID item is its title. An additional feature it provides are a listing of server rules pertaining to a particular rule, but these are irrelevant, as these rules also do not exist within the roleplay environment. A competent roleplayer is able to explain in-character why his/her character will not perform an action which violates the rules on their ID.

That is how I use it - although for Wilde and (sometimes) Pirate I act as if I don't know who they are. If they act like they're infected or are breaking laws, I'll take the relevant action.
Now, this is just from my experiences- and I could be completely wrong, but... What happens to a trader with an I.C. ID, and no IFF? He get's treated as if he's an I.C. Shipper, in lore, 99.9% of the time. This mean's he'll have problems in Rheinland, from the official RM, and RFP factions, even if he doesn't have a Liberty IFF.
On the same coin, My transport had no IFF for the longest period of time... Yet, I carried a Samura ID to allow me to operate a 5k Train. This ID, and nothing else is enough for the official factions of BPA, Bowex, and BAF to iRP identify me as a Samura contracted shipper.
While, due to some admin notice I may be unaware of, you may be correct in stating that using an ID to identify someone is metagaming... If that's the case, EVERY last lawful faction, and indeed, most every player on the server is quite guilty of almost constant, and to the extent to which it occurs, gamebreaking metagaming.
On the other hand, perhaps following that the KNF identifies on ID as well... that the [LN], LPI-, =LSF=, [RM], BDM|, RFP|, BPA)... Yeah, you get the point. Just from the stance that the Admins have taken on allowing all the major main lawful factions to use this as an identifier with no sanctions, or retribution, it is my opinion that ID's are to be interpreted as an iRP item, and serve as a functional method of identifying a ship as friendly or foe, even more so then the "Red is Dead" method you suggested we adhere to.
A Fresh recruit would see a Guard repped fighter as red- Would that make them dead too? No... Why? The ID, mostly. He's still State Police, as his ID dictates... On the other hand, a GC flying through New Tokyo, with a GC ship, GC guns, and a GC ID couldn't possibly claim to be Kusari State Police- EVEN IF they had managed to get full guard reputation, and IFF.
Good luck guys, but some of your men should improve their RP. And (my suggest) get rid of ganking.
Also,i saw some your guys in Tau-23,I'm not sure but don't they have anything better to do in their ZoI instead of chasing after the pirates in the whole Tau-23?
