Sev hurries a little to catch up to Eva.
"I think i'll pass on that. This place...doesn't sit well with me."
She grimaces, looking around; at rooftops, passing ships, and people.
"I...saw a transport with the Concordia logo on it just before, when we landed. I'm sure it wasn't carrying cargo."
Folding her arms in the heavy jacket, she kept close to Eva in the unfamiliar environment.
--------------------
The binocular scope zoomed out as the figure walked away. On the roof of a nearby skyscraper, a black-armored figure grimaced, putting a hand to the side of her helmet.
"Its her. I'm sure of it. Keep track of her."
A voice responded after a moment, crackling over the radio.
"Yes Ma'am. We're moving in to pick you up now. Ghost and Collateral are keeping track of the rogue."
Stepping back from the roof, the bright glint of her helmet caught Sev's eye- little more than a spark on a random building, but it made her visibly shiver.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
Sev takes a moment to catch up, feeling a little flustered by Eva's speed.
"I hope we can lose them...I...I don't know all their tactics...but I have this horrible feeling they're going to find me anyway."
Looking around at the enclosed space, she lets out a sigh of relief.
"Planets are...way too big. It feels strange not having a roof over my head."
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
Evangeline grabs ahold of Sev's arm mid-stride and pulls her along as she continues running. Without looking back she she yells something out.
I don't want you getting lost, alright?
She, along with her crew, expertly dance throughout the crowded subway station. Pushing and shoving past the plethora of civilians adorning the landing all of the girls jump over the turnstiles guarding the platforms themselves without any hesitation - seemingly having had experience in running away from things.
The general populace stare on in apathetic disinterment, however, the actions of Eva and her crew attract the attention of security officers mingling with the crowd.
Evangeline pauses just before the turnstile and lets go of Sev's hand. She, without saying a word, joins her family members in the commitment of the crime of not paying for a ticket. She jumps over in a single bound, one arm rested atop the machine to balance her.
Sev is left standing alone on the "good" side of the waist-high pseudo-barrier. Evangeline looks back, beckoning Sev to jump.
Taking a quick glance around, Sev jumps the barrier without hesitation, almost clearing it. At the last moment, however, her foot catches on the turnstile bar, throwing her forward and knocking off her sunglasses. Rolling foward, she lands on her shoulder, breaking her fall as she comes into a crouch, picking up the glasses and putting them back on without ever breaking her stride. Jogging over to Eva, she chuckled slightly, adjusting the jacket.
"Now this is fun."
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
Evangeline turns to face Sev and smiles slightly. However her grin is interrupted momentarily later by a coarse, rough shout from behind Sev.
A man whose uniform identified himself as a police officer - the typical Manhattanite beefcake sort - was swaggering through the crowds lunging towards both Sev and the rest of the women who had accumulated together in a group a short distance away - including the eleven-year-old girl Evangeline had adopted as her daughter.
SCATTER! Meet up at the hotel!
The command is shouted out and above the scuttlebuzz surrounding the group, causing instantaneous action from the veteran escapees.
Evangeline grabs Sev's arm and hauls her down one of the platforms. Misaka and Sakura bolt together hand-in-hand through the thicket of morning commuters, both quickly disappearing from view. Fumika sneaks off up an adjacent stairway and vanishes instantly, leaving only Eva and Sev - whom the police officer targets and pursues.
Sev keeps up with Eva as best she can, making sure to keep her focus within conscious thought- pacing her breathing, her steps, her balance. They wound through the platform, dodging and pushing through the scattered clumps of disgruntled manhattanites, pursued by the officer- Only able to keep up through the fact that the crowd moved out of the way for him, whereas the girls had to fight their way through. This is familiar... Sev thought, thinking back to the unorganised and yet barely-within-training games of hide and seek she had participated in with her sisters. Draw their attention away.
Suddenly she realised just how similar it was, and tuggd on Eva's arm, pulling her towards the just-arriving train. As the doors slid apart, a wave of businessmen and women departed, a flood that Eva and Sev slipped through with the officer in near pursuit.
He watched from the platform, easily able to see the two figures running up the carriage, and he slipped into the crowd, working his way after them.
Avoiding a slight look from Eva, Sev grasped her arm and pulled her out the opposite side of the train, stepping back onto the platform. The two slowed to a stop within the crowd, and Sev turned to watch, the officer working his way through the train, oblivious to the girl's departure.
"Hah! It worked" Sev said quietly, her smirk a close copy of Evangeline's trademark deviant smile.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
I'm a bad influence on you, Sev. You enjoyed that.
Evangeline casually dusts herself off and stands idle in the crowd until the train departs, carrying the generously portioned police officer along with it.
So, I guess we should catch the next one? We can't go back up if we're being watched.
Sev nods, her mischievous nature sinking behind her usual demeanour, letting out a slight cough.
"Uh...yeah. I-I guess." she stammered, berrating herself for getting carried away with the woman who was still mostly unknown to her.
"It shouldn't be too long until the next one comes, should it? They travel pretty fast..." She trailed off, and within minutes, the next train hummed from within the tunnel, sliding to a halt. By the time backup had arrived for the security guard who had been carried away, the train was already leaving- taking Eva and Sev along without a trace.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
Evangeline boards the stainless steel carriage and eyes off the contents - a sweet-and-sour combination of those people too guilt-ridden to "pollute the environment" with their own car and those too stupid to actually have one.
She chooses to remain standing near the door, wrapping her arm up in one of the straps affixed to the ceiling as the bedraggled train moves away from the platform, sinking into the darkened tunnel.
I guess... we ride for a little while and catch a taxi back. I know the address of the hotel so it shouldn't be a problem.
Why... did they put windows on this thing? Bloody hell it lives underground it's whole life what am I meant to do? Stare at the side of a tunnel?
