Same here, used AVG before, but must say that Avast is pretty nice. Also, he is one one those "lightweights" antiviruses, so he doesnt consume too much of system resources.

Avira. Free. Very good, fast scan and doesnt bug you with bogus "this might be a virus"-Warnings when there is non realy (won some tests).

Friend with FL, can be your friend in ~10 min.

Dude,

Comodo is your friend. Download Comodo Firewall + Antivirus use their DNS servers and it will resolve 80 percent of your issues. Cover the rest with malwarebytes.

Good luck.

I've used AVG before, but the program has ballooned these days and hogs a lot more RAM than it used to.

Then I switched to Avira, but it kept giving me false positives, so I switched to Microsoft Security Essentials. As you would expect, it integrates really nicely with windows, using minimal resources. Plus it updates daily.

I use MSE in combination with CCleaner - maybe the greatest program on earth. It clears temp files and recycling bins, which tends to speed up the computer in general. It also lets you control what runs at startup.

I am my own antivirus protection (bandit)

Though sometimes I will do online scans with F-Secure or allow Microsoft Security Essentials to come out from its cage.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. Zero issues involving Freelancer and zero viruses or other malicious stuff.
