I don't see any reason to risk the server's current stability by futzing with more overclocking or other whizzbangs. Seems to me the biggest bumps I see in game are either load lags from sounds and ships being initiated for the first time, or network traffic problemss.

Here is a link for a site in Hungary.

CPU tuning

We are currently running on the edge of current CPU's capabilities. It has been overclocked it from 1,87GHz to 3,3GHz and it doesn't boot if I push it further, even if I increase the Voltage. Some CPUs of the same kind went over 3,5GHz, but it depends on the series. Unfortunately 3,3GHz is a dead end now...

scruffy

I play on EVE, name is Zak Vanlor, currently i fly everything T1 Gallente and some Minmater ships. Also flying the Hulk, (massive ship built to mine)
I am in Gallente Mining and manufacturing, a small player corporation centered on the industries.

Hey I talked to the Network IT guys at my school (cause they're awsome and love me and will help me whenever i need it) and they said that adding a dedicated eithernet card would really help the transfer rate and that you can even get 2 ipaddresses and link them so you have double the effective connection to the server from the IP. He said that there are a few programs out there that can link your 2 IP addresses together to form one "super" address.

Just something to think about.

We don't need to improve network throughput - during the peak time server only uses 2-3Mbit/s on upload and 1-2Mbit on download, and the network card speed is 100Mb/s.

However I am looking for a better CPU which could be overclocked more than the current one (3,3GHz) so there are more NPCs when the server is full. I was going through some forums and over an over again I read that the current one we have (C2D E6300) together with E6600 are the best overclocking performers so far.

Wait wait wait, hold up.

Intel just released their Penryn CPU (Core Architecture, but on a 45nm die) and their extreme edition can OC to 4.2 GHz on air cooling. If the trend follows from the Core 2 range, then the budget ones coming out probably at the beginning of next year will be able to do more or less the same.

Don't worry I am not buying anything yet...

Oh and E6600 can go up to 4,2GHz too, not on air cooling though...:D

The point isn't to increase the throughput, its to increase throughput's connection to the MB.
