Quote:Hello all,
I've been a long time freelancer fan, and absolutely love what the modding community has done with discovery. I wouldn't consider myself a good player .... at all, i just enjoy roaming around and exploring new areas (which usually just leads to me getting shot to pieces by the sectors controlling factions).
I've always desired to use something other then the keyboard when playing this game. I can't tell you how many times i've wanted to fire a torpedo, but instead have found myself charging up cruise thrust. Or instead of hitting F to bring my shields back, i'd hit V accidentally and see who it was that was causing all that ruckus.
After spending a whole lot of time on planning and construction, i have finally finished my custom control panel for freelancer. After a little bit of trouble shooting this morning, she is now working perfectly.
Here's 2 pictures of it, hope the URL's work.
While this control panel is plugged in, i can still use the regular keyboard to type messages or for inputs that i don't have bound to this panel. And i still have the mouse plugged in for all the normal functions that it is needed for. The controller is set up to be used by the left hand.

Alright, here's an update to show the completion of my two control panels. The first two pictures are my first prototype, the second two are my latest one (completed today 7/16/12) more pictures should be on page 7

Oh my.
Can you share how much it costed to you to build one and some tutorial how to do it with schematas?
You use basic analogue system right? How you made it to work on freelancer? Is it as whole DIY or you took parts from other controller?
I have my soldering-iron dusting somewhere in basement. I have done car amplifiers as teenager and it was good business then.:)
Do you plan to produce such and sell them?

Using joystick is not against the rules for sure.

Using it probably makes one feel like controlling a real spaceship (or something equal to that).

Cool story, bro.

You should put a thumbstick atop the joystick, one for controlling the aiming, one for controlling the flying.

Nope... Nothing about what physical shape your keyboard has to be...

That is neat. How does the joystick work?

I've been thinking about hooking up an old PS2 controller for ages but have never quite found the time to do it.

There was an old mouse emulator for joystick, I remember rigging my Logitec one in 2004 to play FL with disastrous results
