I'm thinking of making a new faction, but I have a few questions.
Can official factions only use 1 generic ID at a time?
Can anyone think of a way around the miner ID's 3800 cargo limit (besides barges -_-)
Can anyone direct me to SCRA's roleplay plans for 4.86? They've got a civilian line of ships coming out...does this mean hostilities towards SCRA will have subsided a bit in light of the Gallia steamrolling?

Official factions must select one ID to be their primary ID. They are then free to select any number of secondary IDs and use them. Typically the admins must approve the usage for it to be legal. There are restrictions on using secondary IDs. Off the top of my head one is that you can't use secondary IDs to get around technology restrictions on your primary ID. Example: Primary ID doesn't allow gunboats but your desired secondary does. You still can't use gunboats with the secondary ID.
No, I can't think of it as there is no way around it. I'd talk to Alvin on Skype about the SCRA, they already have a trading group. I'm sure a mining group wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities.
Thanks for the advice. I have a number of other ideas floating around .I'm just unsure of what will happen in 4.86 regarding ID restrictions and such.
Basically, I am making a faction similar to ICMG but I would wish them to be a more Quasi-lawful neutral faction, rather than being tied to anybody else's ID. Purely so we can have total freedom in progressing our RP. I'm also making a new faction because I don't want to trample all over ICMG's lore and stuff.
My ideas at the moment are either:
a Gallic commune (inspired by historical events, a short-lived pre-communist/anarchist Parisian uprising), distinct from the council, but probably friendly.
or basically SCRA IFF'd indie miners or something. (the main problem being, not getting shot at whilst transporting the ore:P)
However, the restrictions on generic IDs are pretty annoying. I'm not quite sure how one is supposed to go about making a faction with unique RP if there are no IDs to accommodate it? The only solution as I see it is to either:
use Freelancer ID's for our defence forces (primary) and Miner IDs for our economy (secondary), which seems a bit "wrong way around". And just hope that people still want to join a faction with nerfed IDs.
or:
to pinch an unused ID. Although, I doubt there will be any suitable new IDs in 4.86.
Where can I find information on 4.86 regarding IDs and mining spots that will be available in Gallia?
I don't think there is any public information regarding 4.86 IDs. Zelot opened a thread and asked for faction leaders to PM him their desired changes to their ID and the admins would review them. Other than that nothing has been released, that I know about.
As for Gallic mining? You'll have to wait until 4.86. As a leader in the [GMS], I'm under the impression there aren't any mining sites in Gallia as Gallia has stripped mined the place dry to build up their massive <strike>epeen</strike> fleets.
I'm pretty sure all IDs can use gunboats next update, but that is just a rumor I heard. This would allow you to use the Miner ID for both your mining and defensive ships.
Using a SCRA IFF, you'll need to talk to Alvin. SCRA rep has to be adjusted by admins and you won't be able to land anywhere that ore sells.
I don't think there are any unused mining IDs.
As to creating a non vanilla faction from scratch? The admins seem to want things like that done using generic IDs, apply for officialdom, and then perhaps get your own ID. They don't seem to want factions to use faction IDs and role play a extreme shoot off of that faction just to get its tech (Like Hellfire Legion, not blasting you HL, but I don't think the admins will allow that anymore).
Basically, if you want a non vanilla faction, you've to suffer with generic IDs for awhile to prove you'll stick around once you get your own ID. Of course, this is ignoring that I hear the admins are considering letting officials have their own IDs. Again, that is rumor mill talk.
You cannot use the SCRA IFF as it stands. As long as you can land on our bases, no matter the rep, you an buy our stuff. If they have the IFF, they can buy our items. We ran across this issue with Volgograd Industrial, an it wound up being its undoing.
